September, 2003

Love one another
God pours out his blessings

Peace comes from knowing Jesus

God makes all things new

Sing a new song to the Lord

Praise the Lord

(September 30, 2003 6:10 AM CDT)

Here's a place to help you
tune your guitar .
I'm trying to figure out middle C.
Is it a frequency of 256 Hz or 262 Hz ?
Hz is 1 vibration per second.

"The tax collectors and sinners
were all gathering around to hear Jesus,
at which the Pharisees and the scribes murmured,
'This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.'"
Luke 15:1-2

Thank God for that.
Jesus is interested in us sinners.
He wants to talk to us.
He wants to have dinner with us.
He seeks us out.
He goes and looks for us.
He does not care what others say about him.
He is interested in you.
Jesus invites you.
He will keep you in tune.

(September 29, 2003 6:09 AM CDT)

"A man named Simon of Cyrene,
the father of Alexander and Rufus,
was coming in from the fields,
and they pressed him into service
to carry the cross."
Mark 15:21

Be of service today.
Respond when you are called.
Step forward.
Carry your cross.

(September 28, 2003 7:15 AM CDT)

"To all in Rome,
beloved of God and called to holiness,
grace and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ."
Romans 1:7

We see the eternal city today.
It has been around a long time.
Where are all those people
who built these beautiful places?
Are they with the Lord?
You wonder.
Did they listen to God?
Did they respond?
Did they find eternal life?

(September 27, 2003 7:55 AM CDT)

"In times past,
God spoke in fragmentary and varied ways
to our fathers through the prophets;
in this, the final age,
he has spoken to us through his Son,
whom he has made heir of all things and
through whom he first created the universe."
Hebrews 1:1-2

Jesus came to earth.
He spoke to us.
He told us who he was.
He gave us an example.
He showed us how to live.
Read his words in the Bible.
See what he did.
He is the all powerful God.
God has visited his people.

(September 26, 2003 6:23 AM CDT)

"Peter first made everyone go outside;
then he knelt down and prayed.
Turning to the dead body, he said,
'Tabitha, stand up.'
She opened her eyes,
then looked at Peter and sat up."
Acts 9:40

The Lord is calling you.
Do you hear him?
He is calling you back to life.
Will you look to him?
Will you respond?

(September 25, 2003 6:16 AM CDT)

"Paul, Silvanus and Timothy,
to the church of the Thessalonians
who belong to God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace be yours
from God the Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ."
2 Thessalonians 1:1-2

Encourage one another.
Write to your brothers and sisters.
Send them an email of blessings.
Call them.
Pray for them.
Send them a message of love.

(September 24, 2003 6:16 AM CDT)

"Owe no debt to anyone
except the debt that binds us
to love one another."
Romans 13:8

Live within your means.
Don't go way into debt.
Live a simple life with few material things.
Concentrate on the important things ---
the things that don't cost anything.
Sincerely love others.
Reach out to them.
Give of your time.
Think of others and not yourself.

(September 23, 2003 6:19 AM CDT)

(Update at 7:36 PM:
Here is a picture of sunrise today from 20th and Dodge Street.
Notice the flag at half staff.

Here is a picture of sunset today at 120th and West Dodge Road.

Yes, the sun is very close to due east and west today.

And the funeral procession for Jason just broke your heart.
I watched it from 19th and Dodge Streets
with some of the people I work with.
My, was that sad.
Many people were there on both sides of 19th Street.
I didn't take any pictures.
I thought it would be inappropriate.
A group of about 7 firefighters saluted
with their white gloves, black uniforms and black hats
as the hearse went by.
It was very emotional.
It blew you away.
I could hardly talk when I came back in the building
to go back to work.
You can see a picture of the firefighters on this next link
by clicking on "Saying goodbye to Sgt. Jason Pratt"
and viewing picture number 14.
)

Today there is a funeral in Omaha for Jason Pratt .
He was a police officer who died in the line of duty.
Pray for him and his family.

"O God, be merciful to me, a sinner."
Luke 18:13

We ask the Lord for mercy.
We are not perfect.
We need his forgiveness.
Jesus, have mercy on me.
Forgive me.
I have done wrong.
Help me to do what is right.
Change me, Lord.

(September 22, 2003 6:07 AM CDT)

Yesterday I was looking at Finale .
It is software to compose music.
It is amazing how much I have forgotten about writing music.
The lines and spaces on the Treble Clef memory tricks are:
E-G-B-D-F (Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge)
F-A-C-E (Face)
I remembered the first one.
The Bass Clef is unknown territory.
G-B-D-F-A (Good Boys Do Fine Always)
A-C-E-G (All Cows Eat Grass)
I never heard these before.
Middle C is the line below Treble Clef
and the line above the Bass Clef.
I forgot about Key Signature and perfect fifths.
Well, I will just have to study.

"God is our refuge and our strength,
an ever-present help in distress.
Therefore we fear not,
though the earth be shaken
and mountains plunge into the depths of the sea..."
Psalms 46:2-3

Where do you turn?
Where do you go?
Is it just you against the world?
Ask God for help.
He is a refuge.
He is strength.
Have no fear.
Your world can be falling apart.
Call on the Lord Jesus.

(September 21, 2003 7:17 AM CDT)

(Update at 7:37 PM:
I thought that on September 20th or 21st
the sun comes up due east and
goes down due west.
This link says that the autumnal equinox is Sept. 23rd
this year at 5:47 AM CDT.
It is not for two days.
I could not take a picture this morning because of the rain,
but I just took this picture from 120th and West Dodge Road.

It is close, but it does not line up exactly.
Maybe in two days it will line up better.
On mapquest.com West Dodge Road looks like
a true east/west street.
You can see all the construction going on.
Omaha is the land of the barricade.
Someday there will be an elevated highway over this roadway.
You can take the low road or the high road.
The sign says, "Changes Ahead".
That is an understatement.
)

A thunderstorm is rolling through Omaha this morning.
Maybe God is waking up people to go to church.
It is noisy.

"Happy is the man
who reads this prophetic message,
and happy are those who hear it
and heed what is written in it,
for the appointed time is near!"
Revelation 1:3

The time is near.
Are you ready?
Are you prepared?
Have you been reading and listening?
Jesus has much to say to us in 2003.
Sit down.
Quiet yourself.
Listen to the Lord Jesus.
He wants to wake us up.
Does he have your undivided attention?

(September 20, 2003 8:08 AM CDT)

"Do not stifle the Spirit.
Do not despise prophecies.
Test everything; retain what is good.
Avoid any semblance of evil."
1 Thessalonians 5:19-22

Don't get in the way of the Holy Spirit.
Be open to the work of the Spirit.
The Spirit is alive.
Do good and avoid evil.
Ask the Spirit to help you.
Work with the Spirit.

(September 19, 2003 6:19 AM CDT)

Someone I used to work with died yesterday,
so pray for him and his family.
May the Lord comfort them at this time of loss.

"It was for liberty that Christ freed us."
Galatians 5:1

Be free.
Enjoy your freedom in Christ.
He opens new doors to you.
He frees you from a life of sin.
Let the sun rise in you.
Find true freedom.

(September 18, 2003 6:14 AM CDT)

"Mary brought a pound a costly perfume
made from genuine aromatic nard,
which she anointed Jesus' feet."
John 12:3

It is interesting the people you meet in the Bible.
Some people follow Jesus all over the place.
They are very curious.
Some ignore him.
Some want to kill him.
They are afraid of him.
Some love him very much.
Mary did something very special for Jesus.
It cost her to do this.
She loved Jesus very much.
How do you show your love for Jesus?

(September 17, 2003 6:13 AM CDT)

Hurricane Isabel is approaching the east coast.
We pray for the safety of all the people there.
God be with them.

Jesus said,
"I tell you,
there will be the same kind of joy
before the angels of God
over one repentant sinner."
Luke 15:10

Heaven and earth will rejoice.
Give your heart to Jesus.
Receive the joy from God the Father.
Be blessed over and over.
Feel the love of the Holy Spirit.
Ask Jesus to forgive all your sins.
Turn around and go a new direction.
Read his words in the Bible daily.

(September 16, 2003 6:09 AM CDT)

(Update at 8:08 PM:
Something I wrote is in the newspaper today on page 6B.
You can read it online at this link .
Or better yet here is the text:

3,000 lives
About 3,000 people were killed on Sept. 11, 2001, in the World Trade Center, in Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon. We are being asked to spend billions and billions of dollars to see that it never happens again.
And yet I see that more than 3,000 people every month die in automobile accidents in the United States. Where are the billions and billions of dollars to see that this does not continue?
Dan Boeckman, Omaha

They edited it from what I originally wrote.
It is close, but not exact.
Here is the original:

3,000 Lives
There were about 3,000 people killed on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. We are being asked to spend billions and billions of dollars to see that it never happens again. And yet I see over 3,000 people every month dying in automobile accidents in the USA. I ask where are the billions and billions of dollars to see that this does not continue? In a sense every month September 11th happens over and over again. Where is the public outcry? 3,000 lives are 3,000 lives.
)

Here is a picture of a park in Glenwood, Iowa
two days ago.
It was a beautiful day.

"If any of you is without wisdom,
let him ask it from God
who gives generously and ungrudgingly to all,
and it will be given him."
James 1:5

Do you have some tough decisions to make?
Go to the Lord.
Seek his wisdom.
He will guide you.
He will lead you.

(September 15, 2003 6:11 AM CDT)

"Do everything with love."
1 Corinthians 16:14

There's (these are, these's) some words to live by.
Can you say you did something with love?
That sounds like a good test to me.
Ask the Lord to help you.
It is not easy.

(September 14, 2003 7:27 AM CDT)

This is from a little sign
(see 3rd picture yesterday)
in the Garden of the Bible:
"Nicodemus (the man who had first come
to Jesus at night) likewise came,
bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes
which weighed about a hundred pounds."
John 19:39

Nicodemus had changed.
At first he was sneaking around at night
to be with Jesus and ask some questions.
Now it was daylight for all to see.
He was connected to Jesus.
He was a man of faith.
Nicodemus believed in Jesus.
He was a changed person.
Let Jesus change you.
Come away for awhile and meet him.
He is bright daylight for all to behold.
He is there in the garden waiting.

(September 13, 2003 8:11 AM CDT)

(Update at 4:22 PM:
Here are some pictures
in and around "Garden of the Bible"
at Girls and Boys Town that I took today.
I usually go for a walk there on Saturdays.

Biaggi's Restaurant is north across West Dodge Road.
The Chapels are Chambers and Dowd.
You can go on a
Tour of Girls and Boys Town
to learn more.
)

Click on this
and watch the web page appear in Internet Explorer.
I just wanted you to see the effect.
How did they do that?

Last evening I was waiting
at the traffic light at 108th and L Streets southbound
and I noticed two holes in the car in front of me.
Are these two bullet holes?

They could be fake .

"This was the site of Jacob's well .
Jesus, tired from his journey,
sat down at the well."
John 4:6

You can go to this same well today.
It is real.
It still exists.
It is not a fake.
People who were thirsty
have come here for over 2,000 years.
Come to the well.
Come and sit for awhile with Jesus.
Rest.
Talk for a time.
Get to know him.
He will give you living water
that will never end.

(September 12, 2003 6:13 AM CDT)

Jesus said,
"Ask, and you will receive.
Seek, and you will find.
Knock, and it will be opened to you.
For the one who asks, receives.
The one who seeks, finds.
The one who knocks, enters."
Matthew 7:7-8

It takes some action on your part.
Ask questions.
Seek the truth.
Open new doors.
Jesus will answer your questions.
He will reveal the truth to you.
He is the door that leads to all knowledge.

(September 11, 2003 6:13 AM CDT)

We have a moment of silence to remember
all the people who died on September 11, 2001.
God be with their families today.

(September 10, 2003 6:22 AM CDT)

The other day I told them to point the web cam at
Qwest Center Omaha
at the building and they did.
They had the web cam on the roof pointed at the Gallup Building.
"Tell Gallup to get their own web cam," I told them.
It's kind of scary to think that people actually
listen to me.
I better watch what I say.

Here is a picture of the rainbow
yesterday morning in downtown Omaha.

Omaha loves red lights as you can see
and yet some people still ignore them.
I think 90th and Dodge Streets has 7 red lights
facing the eastbound traffic.
I'll take a picture this morning and show you.
Here is the picture:

You would think people would see them.

"O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge;
save me from all my pursuers and rescue me..."
Psalms 7:2

Lord, protect us from harm.
Keep us safe.
We turn to you for safety.
You are our only hope.
Keep us focused on you.
Don't let us get distracted
or pointed in the wrong direction.

(September 9, 2003 6:03 AM CDT)

Good morning.
It's raining this morning in Omaha ---
one of those rare things that happen
here in the "Eastern Nebraska Desert."

"Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being.
Do it for the Lord rather than for people..."
Colossians 3:23

What drives you?
What is your motivation?
Work for the Lord.
Offer your work up to him.
Give the Lord all you've got.
Try to please him.

(September 8, 2003 6:12 AM CDT)

"At every opportunity pray in the Spirit,
using prayers and petitions of every sort.
Pray constantly and attentively
for all in the holy company."
Ephesians 6:18

Holy Spirit, we pray to you today.
We ask you for wisdom.
We pray for peace in the world.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Change us.
We offer all that we do today to you.
Bless all our brothers and sisters in faith.
We lift all of them up to you.
Bless us, Spirit of light.

(September 7, 2003 6:21 AM CDT)

Yesterday I was listening to Brian Doerksen .
He was teaching about songwriting for worship.
I learned a few things.
Someday I'd like to compose music.
This morning I'm listening to some free music
at Vineyard Music .
Click on MP3 or WMA for each song.

Jesus said,
"Fill those jars with water."
John 2:7

Jesus can take the ordinary and make it extraordinary .
He will work with you.
He will use you to build something wonderful.
Be open to the ways of God.
Listen to the Lord.
Seek his will for your life.

(September 6, 2003 8:16 AM CDT)

(Update at 10:30 AM:
Here is a movie from a half hour ago.
On the First Saturday of the month at 10 AM
they test the civil defense sirens .
(Note: I have deleted this, since it is so large.)
This is 2.9 MB in size.
It was very loud.
It just about knocked out my ears.
This was taken at about 117th and Farnam Streets
in Meadow Lane Park.
)

Jesus said,
"You cannot tell by careful watching
when the reign of God will come.
Neither is it a matter of reporting
that it is here or there.
The reign of God is already in your midst."
Luke 17:20-21

You don't have to look far.
It is near you.
The reign of God is here.
Welcome the Lord in your midst.
Let his love surround you.

(September 5, 2003 6:15 AM CDT)

"Some are strong in chariots;
some in horses;
but we are strong
in the name of the Lord, our God."
Psalms 20:8

Our God is very powerful.
He is able to do anything.
He is the Lord of all.
Call on him.
Go to him for help.
Lord, be our strength.
Help us in time of need.

(September 4, 2003 6:12 AM CDT)

(Update at 9:40 PM:
Here are some pictures of the Rose Garden
at Memorial Park in Omaha taken earlier this evening.
Hey, the roses smelled great!
Go visit it in person.

It's pretty dry in Omaha,
as you can see in the last picture.

Billy Graham is on TV during this week and next.
Click above and check the TV listings
or watch the two programs online (maybe).
In Omaha he is on Channel 15 KXVO WB
Saturday, September 6th, 6:30 PM and
Saturday, September 13th, 6:30 PM.
In Lincoln he is on Channel 10 KOLN CBS
Saturday, September 6th, 6:00 PM and
Saturday, September 13th, 6:00 PM.
God bless Billy and his team
as they spread the message of Jesus.
)

Jesus said,
"This is how you are to pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come;
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread,
and forgive us the wrong we have done
as we forgive those who wrong us.
Subject us not to the trial
but deliver us from the evil one."
Matthew 6:9-13

Your prayer should contain all these things.
You praise God.
You respect and honor him.
You talk to him daily.
You hope for his kingdom to come soon.
You look forward to peace on earth.
You see him in every sunrise and sunset.
You obey the Lord and his will for you.
You study his words in the Bible.
You pray for guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The Lord reigns in heaven and earth.
The two worlds are very close.
Heaven can begin now while you are on earth.
Eternal life can start today.
Jesus provides for our daily needs.
He watches over us.
He is not distant.
He forgives us, if we ask.
We must forgive others that have hurt us.
The Lord is with us in the hard times.
He is there in times of trial.
He will deliver us from evil forces.
Good will win in the end.
He will reign forever and ever.
He is king of all creation.
Give praise to God.

(September 3, 2003 6:19 AM CDT)

Here are a few pictures from September 1st
taken near 140th and West Dodge Road
just north of Girls and Boys Town.

After closer inspection it is 138th Circle
in the second picture.
For all you bird lovers
what is the bird in picture 3?
Is it a sparrow or something else?

Jesus insisted,
"Someone touched me;
I know that power has gone forth from me."
Luke 8:46

Maybe you are thinking the same thing.
If only you could touch Jesus,
then you would be healed.
Jesus can come to you.
It is as real as if he was there in person.
Ask Jesus to come into your heart.
You can't ask for closer than that.
Jesus, come and heal me.
I need you.
Come into my heart today.

(September 2, 2003 6:06 AM CDT)

"We found the jail securely locked
and the guards at their posts outside the gates,
but when we opened it we found no one inside."
Acts 5:23

Let the Lord rescue you.
Let him save you from jail.
Let him set you free.
Let him amaze you.
Call on the name of the Lord.
Lord, save me.

(September 1, 2003 6:21 AM CDT)

"We keep thanking God for all of you
and we remember you in our prayers..."
1 Thessalonians 1:2

Thank the Lord.
Give praise to God.
Remember all your family and friends in prayer.
God hears our prayers.
We lift up all these people to the Lord.
God bless them today.
An uncle of mine is very sick.
Jesus, heal him today.
Be with him and his family.
