June, 2005

Today is the day the Lord has made
Rejoice in the Lord

He is all that you need

No greater love is there

Forgive your brother

Love the Lord your God

(June 30, 2005 6:17 AM CDT)

Pray for someone I work with and their family.
His mother-in-law passed away yesterday.
God be with them and comfort them.
Thanks.

Last night at Siena/Francis House I helped serve dinner.
They had 3 sessions of about 75 people each.
They ask for a volunteer to say a prayer before they eat.
It really is a neat "spiritual moment" to
listen to the prayer that is said.
I find myself praying before they even come in the door.
It is a different place.

"When the afflicted man called out, the Lord heard,
and from all his distress he saved him."
Psalms 34:7

Your prayers don't have to be complicated or long.
Just say what is on your mind.
It is a conversation.
The Lord is there to listen and respond.
He is there to help.
Say something.

(June 29, 2005 6:15 AM CDT)

"Jesus said to her, 'Mary!'"
John 20:16

A person's first name is very important to them.
Like when I was registering people for the race
on Sunday June 26th I mentioned their first name
and told them to have fun or have a good walk/run.
Jesus knows your name.
He knows all about you.
He loves you very much.
He tells you to have a wonderful day today.
He is right there with you to help in anyway possible.
Respond when he says your name.

(June 28, 2005 6:16 AM CDT)

There are these words lately that play
over and over in my head:
Someday I'll be gone.

"Be sure of this:
if the owner of the house
knew when the thief was coming
he would keep a watchful eye and
not allow his house to be broken into.
You must be prepared in the same way.
The Son of Man is coming
at a time you least expect."
Matthew 24:43-44

Be prepared.
Be watchful.
You don't know the day or the hour.
I might live another 20 or 30 years or maybe not.
You need a plan.
You need to plan ahead.
What do you expect?
If you think you have all the time in the world,
watch out.

(June 27, 2005 6:16 AM CDT)

From page 1487 of my Bible...

"He shall wipe every tear from their eyes,
and there shall be no more death or mourning,
crying out or pain,
for the former world has passed away."
Revelation 21:4

When we get to heaven the tears will be gone.
Death will be no more.
Pain will cease.
We will be safe.
We will be home.

(June 26, 2005 12:51 PM CDT)

(Update at 8:52 PM:
Here are some of the pictures from this morning.
Picture number 6 of the bridge looks like a Monet painting.
The finish line is in the last picture.
I didn't notice the clock until I was leaving.
That was the time for the 10K race still in progress.
It started at 8:00 AM, so it was 9:20 AM when I took it.
The 3-mile run/walk started at 8:15 AM.

)

My schedule is kind of upside down today.
I helped with the Siena/Francis House
Run/Walk at Lake Zorinsky this morning.
I helped register the people not pre-registered.
I took 16 pictures, so I will post a few
when I get a chance.
I was number 103 and I went for the 3-mile walk,
which took about an hour.
My brother was number 11 and ran in the 10K.
I think he said 58 minutes was his time.
It was a little warm and humid.

"It is not that I have reached it yet,
or have already finished my course;
but I am racing to grasp the prize if possible,
since I have been grasped by Christ Jesus.
Brothers, I do not think of myself
as having reached the finish line.
I give no thought to what lies behind
but push on to what is ahead.
My entire attention is on the finish line
as I run toward the prize to which God calls me ---
life on high in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 3:12-14

Life is like that race today.
You have a goal and you go for it.
You stay on the narrow path around the lake
and you eventually get to the finish line.
If you take off on your own and don't follow directions,
you don't make it home.
It takes effort.
It takes dedication.
You have to make up your mind to do it.
Set heaven as your finish line and
ask Jesus to help you get there.

(June 25, 2005 8:26 AM CDT)

This morning I'm upgrading my Norton AntiVirus software to 2005.
It cost $34.95 for the 2-year subscription and upgrade.

"I handed on to you first of all what I myself received,
that Christ died for our sins
in accordance with the Scriptures,
that he was buried and,
in accordance with the Scriptures,
rose on the third day;
that he was seen by Cephas, then by the Twelve.
After that he was seen by 500 brothers at once,
most of whom are still alive,
although some have fallen asleep."
1 Corinthians 15:3-6

Pass on to your children what you have learned.
Tell them all about Christ.
You have known him.
Share this with those that will follow.

(June 24, 2005 6:20 AM CDT)

The air conditioner is running right now,
so that means it is going to be
another warm day here in Omaha.

What is the world record for the mile?
The answer is here .
I knew it was under 4 minutes.

Jesus said,
"Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Have faith in God and faith in me."
John 14:1

It takes faith when your whole world is upside-down.
It takes trust when troubles come your way.
God is in control.
He is there.
He is your best friend.
Lean on him.

(June 23, 2005 6:17 AM CDT)

Pray for the family of one of my friends
that I volunteer with at Siena/Francis House.
Her Mom had two strokes recently.
God be with them.

"While there is much more that I could write you,
I do not intend to put it down on paper;
instead, I hope to visit you and
talk with you face to face,
so that our joy may be full."
2 John 1:12

Yes, go visit people.
Talk to them face to face.
Spend some time with them.
Show them that you care.
You have much to share with others.

(June 22, 2005 6:20 AM CDT)

"The Spirit we have received
is not the world's spirit
but God's Spirit,
helping us to recognize the gifts
he has given to us."
1 Corinthians 2:12

You have been blessed.
God has given you many gifts.
Do you appreciate them?
Do you use your gifts?
You have many talents.
Use them to make the world a better place.

(June 21, 2005 6:13 AM CDT)

Figure this one out.
My left heel is hurting and my right shoulder.
It was very hard last night driving home,
since I had to turn many times left and right
to see the traffic around me.

I stopped at Best Buy last night to get some DVD+R.
They were on sale.
I'm testing out a DVD recorder I bought the other day.
I tried a DVD+RW and it worked for 5 times and then quit.
That is not very reliable.
I don't know what happened to it.

"Jesus was led away,
and carrying the cross by himself,
went out to what is called the
Place of the Skull (in Hebrew, Golgotha)."
John 19:16-17

Jesus was hurting all over ---
his shoulder and back and many places.
He suffered for us and did not complain.
He offered it up to his Father.
Thank you, Jesus, for all you have done for us.

(June 20, 2005 6:14 AM CDT)

Last night I saw some pictures of Spain.
My niece recently visited there.
Several of the pictures were of the
Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
It is still under construction.

"Jesus said to the man,
'Ephphatha!' (that is, 'Be opened!')
At once the man's ears were opened;
he was freed from the impediment,
and began to speak plainly."
Mark 7:34-35

Open our ears, Lord.
May we hear you clearly.
Open our mouth, Lord.
May we praise you often.
Free us from our impediments.

(June 19, 2005 8:18 AM CDT)

Happy Father's Day!
God bless all the fathers today.
Today is a "first" for me.
It is the first Father's Day without my Dad.
Well, I don't want to think about that too much.
It will be one year on June 25th, since he died.
I learned the other day that a guy (Steve) at the cemetery
at 78th and Center that I met on the afternoon of June 25th
is the brother of someone I know at work.
I still have his business card sitting in my front room
in a sack with all the funeral notes.
Very interesting.

Nathan reported to David,
"I will be a father to him,
and he shall be a son to me."
2 Samuel 7:14

We pray for all the fathers today.
Jesus, be with them and guide them.
Help them to be a wonderful, faithful husband.
Guide them in raising their children.
Give them the strength to do God's will.
Make them a spiritual leader in their home.

(June 18, 2005 8:47 AM CDT)

"Let us hold unswervingly to our profession
which gives us hope,
for he who made the promise
deserves our trust.
We must consider how to rouse each other
to love and good deeds.
We should not absent ourselves from the assembly,
as some do, but encourage one another;
and this all the more
because you see that the Day draws near."
Hebrews 10:23-25

The Lord has put his trust in us.
We should do his will --- we should.
We should encourage one another.
We have each other.
We should love one another.
We should pray together each week at church.
We don't have to do this by ourselves.
Don't be absent.
The Day is near.

(June 17, 2005 6:18 AM CDT)

(Update at 9:38 AM:
Here are the pictures from last night.

)

Last night I went down to Rosenblatt Stadium.
They had a free concert with Dierks Bentley .
He is a country music singer.
I only know two of his songs.
The concert was in the parking lot
southeast of the stadium with the stage facing west.
I took 88 pictures so I will post a few later today.
I didn't stay long --- only about 30 or 40 minutes.
I could still hear the music from 10th and Bancroft
about a half mile north of the stadium
as I was leaving returning to my car.
It was a long walk down/up that 10th Street hill.

"May the Lord rule your hearts
in the love of God
and the constancy of Christ."
2 Thessalonians 3:5

(I had this verse just a few days ago,
but here I am back on page 1405 of my Bible again.
I guess the Lord wants to emphasize this point.)
Be consistent.
Love the Lord with all your heart.
Give your life to him.
Repeat this often.
Come back to him, if you ever fall away.

(June 16, 2005 6:17 AM CDT)

The College World Series has come to town
here in Omaha.
The school I went to (UNL) is even in it.
God bless all the players and their families.

"So may God,
the source of hope,
fill you with all joy and peace in believing
so that through the power of the Holy Spirit
you may have hope in abundance."
Romans 15:13

I need hope.
You need hope.
Go to the source.
God is the source.
He is hope for our journey.
We need hope in abundance.

(June 15, 2005 6:21 AM CDT)

"Jesus began to weep,
which caused the Jews to remark,
'See how much he loved him!'"
John 11:35-36

Jesus loved Lazarus.
He loved his whole family.
He was close to them.
It hurt when Lazarus died.
The separation was too much.
The grief was there.
It hurt to see his family in pain.
Jesus is there with you
in your times of sorrow and loss.
He will come to you and comfort you.

(June 14, 2005 6:15 AM CDT)

"Jesus began to address them
once more using parables.
'The reign of God may be likened
to a king who gave
a wedding banquet for his son.
He dispatched his servants to summon
the invited guests to the wedding,
but they refused to come.'"
Matthew 22:1-3

The invitation is there.
You have been invited.
Will you come?
Will you come to the banquet of banquets?
Jesus invites you.

(June 13, 2005 6:12 AM CDT)

"As for you,
let what you heard from the beginning
remain in your hearts.
If what you heard from the beginning
does remain in your hearts,
then you in turn will remain in the Son
and in the Father.
He himself made us a promise
and the promise is no less than this:
eternal life."
1 John 2:24-25

What is in your heart?
Is there love there?
Is there hate?
Remain true to the Lord.
Stay close to him.
He has made us a great promise.
Give your heart to him.

(June 12, 2005 8:03 AM CDT)

"May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith,
and may charity be the root
and foundation of your life.
Thus you will be able to grasp fully,
with all the holy ones,
the breadth and length and
height and depth of Christ's love,
and experience this love
which surpasses all knowledge,
so that you may
attain to the fullness of God himself."
Ephesians 3:17-19

If we only knew what we have.
To have Christ is to have everything.
We just don't realize it.
He loves us.
We should be glad and rejoice.
Look into your heart.
Try to grasp what you have.
You have been blessed.

(June 11, 2005 8:17 AM CDT)

"May the Lord rule your hearts
in the love of God
and the constancy of Christ."
2 Thessalonians 3:5

Give control to the Lord.
Let him take over your life.
Give your heart to him.
He is the constant one.
He is in control.

(June 10, 2005 6:13 AM CDT)

Yesterday I was reading about the
Serenity Prayer .
We do the will of the Lord.
We give all our troubles to him.

"For you are my hope, O Lord;
my trust, O God, from my youth.
On you I depend from birth;
from my mother's womb you are my strength;
constant has been my hope in you."
Psalms 71:5-6

The Lord is there
in the good times and the bad.
Cast your cares on him.
Trust in him.
He is in control.
He knows what is best.
Depend on him.

(June 9, 2005 6:12 AM CDT)

Billy Graham will have a TV program this week.
Check the TV listings on the above link.
In Omaha it is on KXVO Channel 15
June 11 at 7:00 PM.
In Lincoln it is on KLKN Channel 8
June 10 at 6:30 PM.
Pray for everyone that watches the program
that they find Jesus.

"Jesus advised the disciples,
"Take nothing for the journey,
neither walking staff nor traveling bag;
no bread, no money.
No one is to have two coats.
Stay at whatever house you enter
and proceed from there.
When people will not receive you,
leave that town and shake its dust from your feet
as a testimony against them.'
So they set out and went from village to village,
spreading the good news everywhere
and curing diseases."
Luke 9:3-6

Travel light.
You don't need that many things in this life.
Don't weigh yourself down.
Spread good news.
Pray for the sick.
Lay your hands on them.
Get some dust on your feet.

(June 8, 2005 6:14 AM CDT)

"I admit to you
that it is according to the new way ---
which they call a sect ---
that I worship the God of our fathers."
Acts 24:14

They called it the new way in the early church.
It is still a new way for us.
It is very different from the ways of the world.
We worship the God who made us.
We walk in his ways.

(June 7, 2005 6:16 AM CDT)

"The testimony is this:
God gave us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son.
Whoever possesses the Son
possesses life;
whoever does not possess the Son of God
does not possess life."
1 John 5:11-12

You need Jesus.
You can't live without him.
He is the way to eternal life.
He is life.
You need him.

(June 6, 2005 6:14 AM CDT)

They had a block party for the Siena/Francis House last evening
on 17th street just north of downtown.
There is a story in the newspaper this morning about it.
I met the reporter from the newspaper.
He was asking about what was happening.
The people that attending seemed to really enjoy it.
It was very interesting.
There were games and food and music and many things
they gave away as prizes.
I was very impressed by all the volunteers
giving of their time for this event.

"As you well know,
we have our citizenship in heaven;
it is from there that we eagerly await
the coming of our Savior,
the Lord Jesus Christ.
He will give a new form to
this lowly body of ours
and remake it according to
the pattern of his glorified body,
by his power to subject everything to himself."
Philippians 3:20-21

We get a new body.
That will be nice.
We will be like the angels.
It will be cool.
We will be remade according to his pattern.
Our citizenship is in heaven.
I look forward to it.

(June 5, 2005 8:05 AM CDT)

"Beloved, do not avenge yourselves;
leave that to God's wrath,
for it is written:
'Vengeance is mine; I will repay.'
says the Lord.
But if your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink;
by doing this you will
heap burning coals upon his head.
Do not be conquered by evil
but conquer evil with good."
Romans 12:19-21

Do not try to get even.
God is the scorekeeper.
You take care of your life.
You do what is right and pleasing to God.
Forgive those who have hurt you.
Do not hold a grudge.
Conquer evil by doing good.

(June 4, 2005 7:56 AM CDT)

"Simon Peter, who had a sword,
drew it and struck the slave
of the high priest,
severing his right ear.
(The slave's name was Malchus.)
At that Jesus said to Peter,
'Put your sword back in its sheath.
Am I not to drink the cup
the Father has given me?'"
John 18:10-11

So often we do things our way.
We have our plan.
We ignore God's plan.
God has to correct us and set us straight.
Seek the guidance of Jesus.
Ask him what to do.

(June 3, 2005 6:15 AM CDT)

Jesus said to them,
"The children of this age marry
and are given in marriage,
but those judged worthy
of a place in the age to come
and of resurrection from the dead do not.
They become like angels and
are no longer liable to death.
Sons of the resurrection,
they are sons of God.
Moses in the passage about the bush
showed that the dead rise again
when he called the Lord
the God of Abraham,
and the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob.
God is not the God of the dead
but of the living.
All are alive for him."
Luke 20:34-38

What will heaven be like?
We don't have to worry about sickness anymore.
There is no death.
There is no marriage.
You will live forever in the presence of God.
You will be "at home."
You will find rest for your soul.
It will be a place of joy.
You will truly be alive.

(June 2, 2005 6:15 AM CDT)

"...Christ left you an example,
to have you follow in his footsteps.
He did no wrong;
no deceit was found in his mouth.
When he was insulted,
he returned no insult.
When he was made to suffer,
he did not counter with threats.
Instead, he delivered himself up
to the One who judges justly.
In his own body
he brought your sins to the cross,
so that all of us, dead to sin,
could live in accord with God's will.
By his wounds you were healed.
At one time you were straying like sheep,
but now you have returned to the Shepherd,
the Guardian of your souls."
1 Peter 3:21-25

He is there.
He guards your soul.
He watches over you.
You are healed because of him.
Give thanks to God.

(June 1, 2005 6:23 AM CDT)

"The favor of the Lord Jesus be with you.
My love to all of you in Christ Jesus."
1 Corinthians 16:23-24

I pray for the Lord to be with you today.
May he cover you with his protection.
May he bless you with peace.
He is there to hold you.
I pray for the favor of the Lord over your life.
You have nothing to fear.
