God is love
Love your neighbor

All things are possible with God

Have faith

Trust in Jesus

Look up to heaven

(September 30, 2008 Tue 6:19 AM CDT)

The father-in-law of someone I work with died yesterday.
Pray for them and their family.
God be with them and give them peace.

"I have sent Tychicus to you
for the very purpose
of giving you news about me
for your hearts' consolation."
Ephesians 6:22

God has sent you.
You are a messenger of the Lord.
Bring peace and joy to others.
Go in the name of the Lord.

(September 29, 2008 Mon 6:17 AM CDT)

My brother's dog died on Saturday.
Pray for him and our family.
Thanks.
The dog was 16 years old (about 77 people years).
It is strange that he is not around anymore.
The dog dishes are gone from the kitchen floor.
I tell myself he was just a dog,
but you do feel a sense of loss.
The last time I saw him he was sleeping.

"Jesus comment was:
'Do you see all these buildings?
I assure you,
not one stone will be left on another ---
it will all be torn down.'"
Matthew 24:2

It is a shock.
Things are not permanent in this life.
We wonder about how many more days that we have to live.
Think about life this day.
Live it well.
Jesus is by your side when the troubles come.
Hold on to him.

(September 28, 2008 Sun 7:08 AM CDT)

"In the Lord's eyes,
one day is as a thousand years and
a thousand years are as a day."
2 Peter 3:8

I watched the videotape of the debate yesterday.
We need to pray for peace in our troubled world.
There are too many wars.
There is too much corruption.
Jesus, bring your peace today.
Help us to follow the commandments.

(September 27, 2008 Sat 9:34 AM CDT)

I videotaped the McCain-Obama debate last night.
I just need to watch it.
Ask the Lord to show us
who should be the next president.

"You, my brothers and sisters,
are children of the promise,
as Isaac was."
Galatians 4:28

You are special.
God has created you.
You are a child of God.
Receive the promise given to you.

(September 26, 2008 Fri 6:28 AM CDT)

"Once on shore,
we learned that the island was called Malta.
The natives showed us extraordinary kindness
by lighting a fire and gathering us all around it,
for it had begun to rain and was growing cold."
Acts 28:1-2

Show kindness.
Be open to receive new people.
Welcome them.
Care for them.

(September 25, 2008 Thu 5:41 AM CDT)

"Then the disciple who had arrived first
at the tomb went in.
He saw and believed."
John 20:8

It takes faith.
We can't see the risen Jesus like John did.
We need the eyes of faith.
Jesus, open our eyes.
We want to see you.
Increase our faith.

(September 24, 2008 Wed 6:21 AM CDT)

This is another Bible reading from church on Sunday.

Jesus told his disciples this parable:
"The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner
who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard.
After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage,
he sent them into his vineyard.
Going out about nine o'clock,
the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
and he said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard,
and I will give you what is just.'
So they went off.
And he went out again around noon,
and around three o'clock, and did likewise.
Going out about five o'clock,
the landowner found others standing around, and said to them,
'Why do you stand here idle all day?'
They answered, 'Because no one has hired us.'
He said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard.'
When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman,
'Summon the laborers and give them their pay,
beginning with the last and ending with the first.'
When those who had started about five o'clock came,
each received the usual daily wage.
So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more,
but each of them also got the usual wage.
And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying,
'These last ones worked only one hour,
and you have made them equal to us,
who bore the day's burden and the heat.'
He said to one of them in reply,
'My friend, I am not cheating you.
Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage?
Take what is yours and go.
What if I wish to give this last one the same as you?
Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money?
Are you envious because I am generous?'
Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last."
Matthew 20:1-16

God is most generous.
We don't understand this.
We think it is not fair.
The Lord wants all of us to be with him forever.
Think about this.
Thank him for his abundant love.

(September 23, 2008 Tue 6:13 AM CDT)

"Anyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus
can expect to be persecuted."
2 Timothy 3:12

It is not easy to be a Christian.
People will make fun of your beliefs.
Stand for what you believe.
Jesus, help us to be a faithful witness to the truth.
You are the light in this dark world.

(September 22, 2008 Mon 6:34 AM CDT)

This was one of the Bible readings at church yesterday.

"Seek the LORD while he may be found,
call him while he is near.
Let the scoundrel forsake his way,
and the wicked his thoughts;
let him turn to the LORD for mercy;
to our God, who is generous in forgiving.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD.
As high as the heavens are above the earth,
so high are my ways above your ways
and my thoughts above your thoughts."
Isaiah 55:6-9

Call on the Lord.
Speak to him.
He is very near to you.
Think of him often.

(September 21, 2008 Sun 7:02 AM CDT)

Here is an easy Bible question
from the crossword puzzle of September 17, 2008
27 Down: Bk. after Exodus.

Jesus taught,
"You know the commandments:
'You shall not kill;
You shall not commit adultery;
You shall not steal;
You shall not bear false witness;
You shall not defraud;
Honor your father and your mother.'"
Mark 10:19

They are there.
The commandments still stand.
They are sign posts for us.
Do you follow the commandments?
Check yourself.
Jesus, help us to follow the commandments.
Forgive us for our sins.
Help us to start again.

(September 20, 2008 Sat 9:21 AM CDT)

Jesus said,
"I assure you,
if you had faith the size of a mustard seed,
you would be able to say to this mountain,
'Move from here to there,' and it would move.
Nothing would be impossible for you."
Matthew 17:20

Faith.
Do you have faith?
It takes faith.
You need it.
Jesus, we trust in you.
You can do all things.
Increase our faith.

(September 19, 2008 Fri 5:40 AM CDT)

"Come to him, a living stone,
rejected by men but approved, nonetheless,
and precious in God's eyes.
You too are living stones,
built as an edifice of spirit..."
1 Peter 2:4-5

Build the kingdom of God.
He needs you.
You are part of the great mosaic of faith.
You hold a place in the wall.
Do your part.
You are precious to God.

(September 18, 2008 Thu 6:15 AM CDT)

"The weapons of our warfare are not merely human.
They possess God's power
for the destruction of strongholds."
2 Corinthians 10:4

Call on the power of God.
He is all-powerful.
You can trust in him to protect you.
Jesus, come with your power and might.
Protect us from evil.

(September 17, 2008 Wed 6:21 AM CDT)

"Someone then came up to them, pointing out,
'Look, there!
Those men you put in jail
are standing over there in the temple,
teaching the people.'"
Acts 5:25

You can't silence the good news.
It will get out.
It will be proclaimed.
You can't lock it up.
Be open to the gospel.

(September 16, 2008 Tue 6:16 AM CDT)

Jesus replied,
"If they were to keep silence,
I tell you the very stones would cry out."
Luke 19:40

Well, that is hard to picture.
How can stones make a sound?
I'm sure there is a way.
Speak up.
Share what you know about Jesus.

(September 15, 2008 Mon 6:18 AM CDT)

"The reign of God is like a buried treasure
which a man found in a field.
He hid it again,
and rejoicing at his find
went and sold all that he had
and bought that field."
Matthew 13:44

Search for the Lord.
Find the treasure.
It is there.
Are you looking?
Seek and you will find it.
It is worth more than all the money in the world.

(September 14, 2008 Sun 7:21 AM CDT)

Here is a Bible question from the crossword puzzle of September 3, 2008
49 Across: Fourth son of Jacob and Leah, 5 Letters.
The answer is in
Genesis 35:23

"God said to Jacob:
'You whose name is Jacob
shall no longer be called Jacob,
but Israel shall be your name.'
Thus he was named Israel."
Genesis 35:10

Some people take a new name when they become a Christian.
They have a baptism name.
It signifies a change has taken place.
Something has happened.
New life has begun.
Jesus, help us to live your new life each day.
Give us a new name.

(September 13, 2008 Sat 10:19 AM CDT)

Yesterday afternoon when I was driving around
the red brake light came on in my car.
Later I took it to have it fixed on 72nd and Farnam Streets.
God bless the people that fixed my brakes.

"God's secret plan as I have
briefly described it was revealed."
Ephesians 3:3

There is a plan.
God is in control.
Stay close to him.
Watch for the red warning lights.
Do your part.

(September 12, 2008 Fri 5:39 AM CDT)

"What we are aiming at in this warning
is the love that springs from a pure heart,
a good conscience, and sincere faith.
Some people have neglected these and
instead have turned to meaningless talk..."
1 Timothy 1:5-6

Be sincere.
Have a pure heart.
Ask the Lord for more faith.
Talk about the things of heaven.
Jesus, help us to walk the talk.
Show us the way.

(September 11, 2008 Thu 6:16 AM CDT)

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) did not create a black hole yesterday.
Thank the Lord.

"Then, after Jesus had dismissed the crowds,
he got into the boat and
went to the district of Magadan."
Matthew 15:39

Jesus moved around.
He visited different people.
He had much to share with them.
Get out and visit others.
Spread the joy of the Lord.

(September 10, 2008 Wed 6:24 AM CDT)

"Day after day,
both in the temple and at home,
they never stopped teaching and proclaiming
the good news of Jesus the Messiah."
Acts 5:42

We need good news.
The recent events can depress you.
You need the joy of the Lord to survive.
Look up to the heavens.
Tell others about Jesus.

(September 9, 2008 Tue 6:21 AM CDT)

"Let the word of Christ, rich as it is,
dwell in you.
In wisdom made perfect,
instruct and admonish on another."
Colossians 3:16

Read the words of Christ in the Bible.
Think about them.
Take them into your heart.
Let them grow.
Share your insights with others.

(September 8, 2008 Mon 6:16 AM CDT)

"They pressed Jesus:
'Stay with us.
It is nearly evening ---
the day is practically over.'
So he went in to stay with them."
Luke 24:29

You see Jesus.
You know about him.
Invite him in.
Get to know him.
Jesus, come and stay.

(September 7, 2008 Sat 7:20 AM CDT)

Zechariah said,
"We should serve him devoutly
and through all our days
be holy in his sight."
Luke 1:75

Over and over we hear God's calling.
Do we listen?
Do we understand?
Ask the Lord to teach you about holiness.
Jesus, show us the way.
We need your help.
You know the way that leads to eternal life.

(September 6, 2008 Sat 9:27 AM CDT)

I attended a dinner last night about the
mission trip to Albania a few weeks ago.
God is doing amazing things there.
He is changing lives.
Keep praying for them as the gospel spreads.

"God has saved us and
has called us to a holy life,
not because of any merit of ours
but according to his own design ---
the grace held out to us in Christ Jesus
before the world began."
2 Timothy 1:9

You are called.
Christ calls you to be special.
He has designed you.
You are to be holy.
Live your life for the Lord.

(September 5, 2008 Fri 6:21 AM CDT)

"To all in Rome,
beloved of God and called to
holiness, grace and peace
from God our Father and
the Lord Jesus Christ."
Romans 1:7

May the Lord bless you today.
May he give you grace to do his will.
May you have peace in your life.
God bless you.
Have a blessed day.

(September 4, 2008 Thu 6:20 AM CDT)

"No servant can serve two masters.
Either he will hate the one and
love the other or be attentive to the one
and despise the other.
You cannot give yourself
to God and money."
Luke 16:13

Jesus, teach us about money.
How should we use it?
Who should we help with it?
Show us the proper use of money.
All good gifts come from you.
Thank you.

(September 3, 2008 Wed 6:18 AM CDT)

This morning I'm looking at the new
Google Browser Chrome .
It can't play the streaming of KGBI FM 100.7.
It keeps asking for a "plug in" and it will not install it.

"The heavens and the earth will pass away
but my words will not pass."
Mark 13:31

Read the Bible.
They are eternal words.
Hold on to them.
Treasure them.
Pray to the Holy Spirit to help you
when you read the Bible.
Come, Holy Spirit, teach us more about you.

(September 2, 2008 Tue 6:05 AM CDT)

"Love your fellow Christians always.
Do not neglect to show hospitality,
for by that means some have
entertained angels without knowing it."
Hebrews 13:1-2

Be open.
Welcome others into your life.
Share the love of Christ with them.
Love as Christ has loved you.

(September 1, 2008 Mon 6:45 AM CDT)

We pray for all the people in the path
of Hurricane Gustav this morning.
God be with them and protect them.

This was one of the Bible readings yesterday
at Boys Town Dowd Chapel at 11:00 AM.
The sermon was about Yuksel Er of Bursa, Turkey.
(Search for Yuksel on this link.)
He survived 4 days trapped by the 8/17/1999 earthquake.
"I'm starting a second life," said Er...

"I urge you, brothers and sisters,
by the mercies of God,
to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,
holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship.
Do not conform yourselves to this age
but be transformed by the renewal of your mind,
that you may discern what is the will of God,
what is good and pleasing and perfect."
Romans 12:1-2

Do you follow the crowd?
If they do something, do you do something?
Follow Christ.
He will renew your heart and mind.
Be holy.
Be that special.
Be transformed.
