Jesus is coming soon
Prepare the way of the Lord

Jesus is the light of the world

Open your heart

God is love

Thank the Lord

(May 31, 2009 Sun 8:27 AM CDT)

I met this young guy yesterday that has his
own software business .
He uses PHP and likes Apple computers.
I have been studying PHP lately.
Interesting.

I finished chapter 14 of the ASP.NET book yesterday.
I'm starting to get the hang of the .NET environment.
It's alright.
It does some useful things.

"One night Paul had a vision.
A man of Macedonia stood before him
and invited him,
'Come over to Macedonia and help us.'
After this vision, we immediately made efforts
to get across to Macedonia
concluding that God had summoned us
to proclaim the good news there."
Acts 16:9-10

You will see visions.
The Lord will send you places.
Be led by the Holy Spirit.
Be open to meeting new people.

(May 30, 2009 Sat 9:32 AM CDT)

"May our Lord Jesus Christ himself,
may God our Father who loved us
and in his mercy
gave us eternal consolation and hope,
console your hearts and strengthen them
for every good work and word."
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

The Lord is with you.
May He give you peace.
May you find your strength in Him.
May He bless you with hope.

(May 29, 2009 Fri 6:05 AM CDT)

Yesterday I found out that someone else at LHH landed a job.
They will start on Monday, June 15.
They have been out of work since November of last year.
We were all congratulating him.
Celebrate success.

They played this song on the KGBI in Omaha yesterday morning.
You - Britt Nicole .
Nice song.
The song was released in 2007.
Why did it take two years to hear it?
I'm out of the loop apparently.

I started chapter 13 of the ASP.NET book.
It talks about LINQ (Language Integrated Query) .
You use something that looks like SQL statements
to get information from many things
that are not necessarily in databases.
You can use it to loop through an array of items.
It is different.

Jesus told this story of the prodigal son:
"I will break away and return to my father,
and say to him,
Father, I have sinned against God and against you;
I no longer deserve to be called your son."
Luke 15:18

It is time to come back home.
Return to your Father in heaven.
He made you.
He is worried about you.
He wants you to be safe with him.
Come on back.
Make your prayer:
I'm coming back to you.

(May 28, 2009 Thu 6:14 AM CDT and 8:15 AM CDT)

I am studying SQL Server in chapter 12
of the ASP.NET book.
It shows you how to build tables and
create foreign keys to get referential integrity .
I used it years ago and forgot it all.

Jesus taught,
"The unbelievers are always running after these things.
Your heavenly Father knows all that you need.
Seek first his kingship over you,
his way of holiness, and all these things
will be given you besides.
Enough, then, of worrying about tomorrow.
Let tomorrow take care of itself.
Today has troubles enough of its own."
Matthew 6:32-34

Be focused.
Concentrate on things for today.
Do your best at the moment.
Set goals for the day.
Use your talents for the glory of the Lord.

(May 27, 2009 Wed 6:10 AM CDT)

Someone gave me some candy from Cincinnati last night.
It has been a few years since I have been there.

I started chapter 11 of the ASP.NET book yesterday.
I had to install IIS to get it going.
The book said to run the commands: Start > Run > appwiz.cpl
and then click on "Add/Remove Windows Components."
Then pick "Internet Information Services (IIS)" from the list
and install it.
It starts http://localhost on your PC automatically.
I don't care for that.
To stop it from automatically starting you
put in the commands: Start > Run > msconfig
and uncheck the entry for IIS.
I rebooted my PC and it is stopped now.

"Be on your guard lest you be led astray
by the error of the wicked,
and forfeit the security you enjoy.
Grow rather in grace, and in the knowledge of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Glory be to him now and to the day of eternity!
Amen."
2 Peter 3:17-18

Watch out.
There is evil.
Stay far away from it.
Be focused on Jesus.
He is your security.
He will lead you to glory.

(May 26, 2009 Tue 6:11 AM CDT)

I got up to chapter 10 in the ASP.NET book.
It is talking about AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML).
I ran a little demo program.
It works great.
It refreshes information on a web page
without repainting the entire page.
Flicker-free, they say.

We are 4.5 inches behind in the normal rainfall in Omaha,
so I am watering the yard this morning.

"May the God of peace
make you perfect in holiness.
May he preserve you whole and entire,
spirit, soul, and body, irreproachable
at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He who calls us is trustworthy,
therefore he will do it."
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

The Lord calls you.
Respond to this invitation to greatness.
Jesus, help us to be like you.
We need your guidance.
Show us a life of holiness.

(May 25, 2009 Mon 6:03 AM CDT)

We remember.
We remember all those who gave their lives for our country.
God bless them and their families.

Jesus said,
"There is no greater love than this:
to lay down one's life for one's friends."
John 15:13

Give.
Give of your time.
Give to others.
Be thinking of others.
Jesus, help us to be thoughtful today.

(May 24, 2009 Sun 8:00 AM CDT)

Yesterday I was at the
Nebraska State Track Meet in Omaha for a little while.
I watched the race at about 1:35 PM.
They went around the track once.
One web site says the track length once around is 400 meters.
There are 1609.344 meters in a mile,
so they went a quarter of a mile.
It was the 400 meter dash from what I read.
There were 6 girls in the race.
It was hot with the sun and little wind.
The temperature was in the mid 80F's.
There were many people there
with police directing traffic on every corner.
It was a very busy place.
The cars were parked everywhere with
county license plates from all over the state.
Some people were sitting in their parked cars
with the air conditioning running to keep cool.
There were many tents set up around the stadium
for the athletes to rest and stay cool.

"Do not run like a man
who loses sight of the finish line."
1 Corinthians 9:26

Where are you going?
Do you know the route?
Set your goals.
Run for the Lord.
Run to win the prize of eternal life.

(May 23, 2009 Sat 10:09 AM CDT)

I forgot to tell you that on Thursday
at the networking session at LHH
another person landed a job.
They were *so* excited.
Really... or I mean *awesome*.

Pray for a friend of mine that is going on
a mission trip to Bogota, Columbia today.
It is 2,640 meters (8,661 feet) above sea level.
God bless all those in the group.
May they change many lives.
Jesus, be with them and keep them safe.

I'm on chapter 6 of the ASP.NET book.
It takes a long time to read it
and do the exercises.
It is good stuff.

"Thus the last shall be first
and the first shall be last."
Matthew 20:16

Expect the unexpected.
God will send you to places.
It will surprise you.
He will flip things on you.
Be a witness for the Lord.
Ask the Holy Spirit to give you what to say.
Jesus, be with us.
Send us to the lost.
Give us the words to say.
You are our inspiration.
Amen.

(May 22, 2009 Fri 6:54 AM CDT)

Yesterday I met someone that lived
for a little while in Aberystwyth, Wales .
It is on the west coast of Wales .

I'm in chapter 5 of the ASP.NET book.
There is a lot to read.

I bought and sold some stock in SolarWinds Inc .
They had an IPO on Wednesday.
I made 0.93% on it in just a few hours.

"At one time you were straying like sheep,
but now you have returned to the Shepherd,
the Guardian of your souls."
1 Peter 2:25

The Lord watches over you.
He will guard your soul from death.
Follow the Good Shepherd.
He will lead you to happiness.

(May 21, 2009 Thu 6:06 AM CDT)

Google has come to town.
They are here and they say there still are job openings.
I don't think I'm qualified for any of them.

I got a phone call yesterday at 10:54 AM.
I have a second job interview next week with this company.
I was excited.
Very good.
Maybe I can work for them.
I drove by the place last night to see it up close.
There are a few visitor parking spots.
They say to not get your hopes up too high.
Keep searching for other jobs as you talk to them.

"But their end will correspond to their deeds."
2 Corinthians 11:15

I have planted some day lilies in front of my house.
Some are growing and some are not to be found.
Work for the kingdom of God.
It takes effort.
Set your goals high.
Grow in the Lord.

(May 20, 2009 Wed 6:13 AM CDT)

Some person was fixing my siding on the north side yesterday
that was damaged from the storm last year.
The storm came from that direction.
I was home at the time.
I saw the wind, rain and hail blowing from the north.
God bless him and his family.

"That night the Lord appeared at Paul's side and said:
'Keep up your courage!
Just as you have given testimony to me here in Jerusalem,
so must you do in Rome.'"
Acts 23:11

The Lord will send you to places.
Be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Have courage to do God's work.
Testify to the truth.

(May 19, 2009 Tue 6:13 AM CDT and 8:21 AM CDT)

Some guy came and checked my air conditioner yesterday.
It passed all the tested.
God bless him and his family.

I'm in chapter 3 of the ASP.NET book.
Visual Studio 2008 will do the CSS formatting for you.
You don't need to know CSS but it does not hurt.

In class (Cultivating & Negotiating Offers) yesterday they said:
"He/she who speaks first looses."
This is when you are talking about salary with a company.

Jesus said,
"It is easier for the heavens and the earth to pass away
than for a single stroke of a letter of the law to pass."
Luke 16:17

There are laws.
There is the law of God.
It does not change.
People will come and go.
Generations will come and go.
Public opinion will change year by year.
God's word does not change.

(May 18, 2009 Mon 6:18 AM CDT)

This morning I'm watching ThruYOU videos.
Different.
They mixed up many videos to make seven videos.
Something to see.
Someone with way too much free time.
#01 is great.
#06 is ultra cool.
Here is the story on it from the Boston Globe.
The ninth chord ...
Oh, yes.

"Make the most of the present opportunity..."
Ephesians 5:16

Work with others.
You are part of the team.
God created us all.
Make a beautiful symphony.

(May 17, 2009 Sun 8:43 AM CDT)

Two people robbed the business in Omaha
on Saturday at 12:40 AM
where one of my relatives works.
They were not there at the time.
Normally they would have been there.
One of the robbers shot into the ceiling.
Pray for the robbers to change their lives
and do what is right and pleasing to God.
Jesus, be with them and help them.

Peter and John prayed,
"'Grant to your servants,
even as they speak your words,
complete assurance by stretching forth
your hand in cures and signs and wonders
to be worked in the name of Jesus,
your holy Servant.'
The place where they were gathered shook
as they prayed.
They were filled with the Holy Spirit and
continued to speak God's word with confidence."
Acts 4:29-31

Pray with assurance.
Pray with confidence.
Prayer is powerful.
It shakes up your life.
You will see signs and wonders.
Speak to Jesus often.

(May 16, 2009 Sat 10:21 AM CDT)

I had that phone interview yesterday.
It was very stressful.
Many, many questions.
Too many questions.
They will get back to me
if there is to be a second interview that is technical.

At the same time, they were finishing my new roof.
There was the sound of pounding
as they installed the new shingles.
It is done.
Everything was happening at once.
I had to go to the Westroads Mall after that for a walk.

I am in chapter 2 of the ASP.NET book.
I am reviewing the things
that I used to know about 5 years ago.
I have forgotten a lot.

I went to the graduation at Creighton University last night.
About a 100 people graduated from the School of Pharmacy .
They take an oath to help people
with their knowledge and skills.
It was something to see and celebrate.
God bless them and their efforts to help others.

"The hungry he has given every good thing,
while the rich he has sent empty away."
Luke 1:53

Be thankful for what you have.
Many people have little or nothing.
God has blessed you.
Be grateful for all the gifts that God has given to you.
It is time to graduate to a new level of thanksgiving.

(May 15, 2009 Fri 6:58 AM CDT)

Yesterday I started to read the book
Beginning ASP.NET 3.5: in C# and VB .
I got up to page 18.
You can load Visual Web Developer Express Edition for free.
Click on "Download" on this previous link.
I'm still reading the PHP book chapter 13.
PHP and ASP.NET are different approaches
to create dynamic web pages.

Good news!
Two people reported landing jobs yesterday
at the networking session at LHH.
They graduated, so we won't see them anymore.
They have to go to work.
Negative two on the unemployed list.

I have a phone interview today,
so that is interesting.
It should be fun talking to them.

There are 3 guys that replaced half my roof yesterday.
God bless them and their families.

Here is an easy Bible question
from the crossword puzzle for 5-11-2009 .
15 ACROSS: Ark builder (4 letters).
This answer is very popular in crossword puzzles.
You see it a lot.

"They went then to a place named Gethsemani.
'Sit down here while I pray,'
Jesus said to his disciples;
at the same time he took along with him
Peter, James, and John."
Mark 14:32-33

Come and see.
Sit with Jesus.
Set aside time each day to be with him.
Talk to him.
Pray with him.
Bring your friends to meet him.

(May 14, 2009 Thu 6:17 AM CDT)

Yesterday I looked at Children's Hospital
for an IT job,
but I did not see anything.
Some jobs are just word-of-mouth.

Yesterday I tried to note the accomplishments
I had at my previous job.
I worked on many things over the years.
I need to capture that information.

Maybe I get a new roof today.
It is Thursday.
The insurance company called yesterday
and they agreed to pay the contractor so much money.

"And no one can say:
'Jesus is Lord,'
except in the Holy Spirit."
1 Corinthians 12:3

He is the one.
There is no one else.
Jesus is the Lord of all creation.

(May 13, 2009 Wed 6:25 AM CDT)

Yesterday I took the class "Communications Strategy."
The teacher Jan taught us how to make an Exit Statement
and Positioning Statement.
The exit statement is a positive spin on why you left your last job.
The positioning statement is what job you are looking for.
If people in your network know what you are looking for
then they can be watching for job opportunities
and let you know about them.
Be ready at all times to answer the query:
tell me about yourself .

"Should anyone ask you the reason
for this hope of yours,
be ever ready to reply,
but speak gently and respectfully."
1 Peter 3:15

Our hope is in Christ.
He is the reason to live.
He is our sunshine for the day.
Speak highly of him.

(May 12, 2009 Tue 8:20 AM CDT)

I got an "I Voted Today" sticker a few minutes ago.
Today is Election Day in Omaha.
Pray for the people that should be our next leaders.
God bless them and their families.

I finished chapter 12 of the PHP book and started the next one.
I definitely will use the information in that chapter
on user IDs and passwords.

I applied for a job at PayPal last night.
It is titled MTS L2 Jr. Engineer .
I'm told PayPal is a great company to work for.

"When Jesus heard this he said to him:
'There is one thing further you must do.
Sell all you have and give to the poor.
You will have treasure in heaven.
Then come and follow me.'
On hearing this he grew melancholy,
for he was a very rich man."
Luke 18:22-23

You wonder how great this person could have been
in the kingdom of God, but money got in his way.
Maybe he would have wrote a gospel and
preached in many countries about the love of God.
Do not hold on to money.
It will block you from doing the will of God.
Your treasure is in heaven.

(May 11, 2009 Mon 7:07 AM CDT)

This morning I'm reading about
Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.
One of my relatives will be working there soon.

Yesterday on Mother's Day when we were driving near
Beebeetown, Iowa on Road L-34 my Mom said,
"Lots are better than plots."

This was one of the readings yesterday
at Dowd Chapel 11:00 AM service at Boys Town, Nebraska .
They have a nice video about their campus on this link.

Jesus said,
"I am the true vine
and my Father is the vinegrower.
He prunes away every barren branch,
but the fruitful ones he trims clean
to increase their yield."
John 15:1-2

Stay connected.
Stay with the Lord.
He is the source of life.
He will trim the evil from your life.
He wants you to grow and thrive.

(May 10, 2009 Sun 8:04 AM CDT)

I finished chapter 11 of the PHP book on e-mail.
I used my ISP to run some of the PHP programs on their computer
since I could not get e-mail to run on my Ubuntu PC.
The HTML inside e-mail was interesting to see.

Yesterday someone came out to give me
an estimate on replacing my roof.
Maybe later this week I will have a new roof.
The contractor and the insurance company have to talk
about the cost of the work to be done.
God bless them and the work they do.

"In times past, God spoke in fragmentary and
varied ways to our fathers through the prophets;
in this, the final age,
he has spoken to us through his Son,
whom he has made heir of all things and
through whom he first created the universe.
This Son is the reflection of the Father's glory,
the exact representation of the Father's being,
and he sustains all things by his powerful word."
Hebrews 1:1-3

The word of God is powerful.
It holds the planets and stars in their places.
Look to the Lord's creation.
See the reflection of the greatness of God.
He is awesome.

(May 9, 2009 Sat 9:33 AM CDT)

I was studying the SkillSoft class on PowerPoint 2003 yesterday.
For example the entry "View" -> "Toolbars" -> "Outlining"
is useful for indentations of text.
You can copy things and promote or demote items easily.
The same is true in Word 2003.
Hey, I learned something new.
I get the feeling that there is a *lot* of stuff
in Microsoft Office products that I don't know about
that would be very nice to know.
(I had 3 that's in that sentence.)

I tried to register with Aureus Group yesterday.
I gave up.
Their web site is strange.
I will make another attempt today
to get through all the menus.

I found a video yesterday of the
police chasing someone all over Omaha
and even across state lines to Iowa and
back to Nebraska and then Iowa again.
They were shooting at the police as they drove along.
It gets your heart racing.
I kept asking myself, "Where is the police helicopter?"
It was *way* too dangerous going 80+ MPH all over town.
These are streets that I drive on from time to time.
There is too much violence in Omaha.
It used to be such a quiet town.

"So they set out and went from village to village,
spreading the good news everywhere and curing diseases."
Luke 9:6

So when you go from town to town or state to state
what do you spread around?
Is it good news?
Are people glad that you arrived?
Share the joy of the Lord.

(May 8, 2009 Fri 6:29 AM CDT)

This morning I'm looking at videos of the
Omaha storm 6-27-2008 .
My brother says there is one from near 7th and Leavenworth
that I have to see but I can't find it yet.
It is just like being there .
That's how it looked.
Scary.
I watched if from out my garage windows on that day.
Now I can't do that since my new garage door has no windows.

I met 3 new people yesterday at the LHH networking session.
I got some names at IPG in Omaha.
They are moving their IT operations to Omaha.
There was a story in the newspaper on Tuesday about them.
They "only" had $6.9 billion in revenue for 2008.

I'm also taking a SkillSoft class
on Office PowerPoint 2003 through LHH.

Here is a Bible question from the crossword puzzle for 5-4-2009 .
14 ACROSS: Jacob's biblical twin (4 letters).
Also the town where I live was in the puzzle.
30 DOWN: Nebraska City (5 letters).
I got both answers right.

"When the time of her delivery come,
there were twins in her womb."
Genesis 25:24

Isaac was their father.
Rebekah was pregnant with twins.
The two were fighting as they were born.
They were brothers.

(May 7, 2009 Thu 8:31 AM CDT)

Yesterday in class they said to check out
some web sites like this
if you wanted to start you own business:
www.entrepreneur.com
www.sba.gov
www.bplans.com
Yes, you need a business plan .

This morning I downloaded Windows 7 RC and burned a DVD.
I'm installing it on my laptop computer now.

I did get e-mail working on my Ubuntu computer yesterday.
I just could not get PHP to talk to it.
I don't know that much about how e-mail works.

"Hoping against hope, Abraham believed and
so became the father of many nations,
just as it was once told him,
'Numerous as this shall your descendants be.'"
Romans 4:18

Hope is important.
Do you have hope?
Is there any hope?
With Jesus all things are possible.
Trust in him.
Believe in him.

(May 6, 2009 Wed 7:06 AM CDT)

In the class yesterday the teacher
(Jonathan from Mendham, New Jersey 07945 maybe)
kept talking about "when you have landed."
Say what?
It just struck me funny.
From context it refers to
when you have landed/found a job.

I'm in chapter 11 of the PHP book.
I'm trying to get e-mail working on my Ubuntu PC.
I have not succeeded yet.

I made contact with someone that actually works at West Corporation.
I wrote to them this morning about
the 3 jobs I applied for on May 4.
I told them I write programs just for fun.

The class today is "Be Your Own Boss" at 10:30 AM.
Maybe I could start my own company... or maybe not.

I'm having too much fun to land a job.

"Peter proceeded to address them in these words:
'I begin to see how true it is
that God shows no partiality.
Rather, the person of any nation who fears God
and acts uprightly is acceptable to him.'"
Acts 10:34-35

Well, what can you say?
God loves everyone.
He loves the unlovable.
He loves those who are forgotten.
God loves you.
You are part of the family.
You have landed.

(May 5, 2009 Tue 8:09 AM CDT and 11:22 AM CDT)

If you live in Nebraska, you can vote for the
style of our next license plates .
I voted for the first design.
Really... I can't say that I like any of them.
Number two is interesting if it had more color to it.

Another book arrived yesterday.
It is Macromedia MX - Building Rich Internet Applications .
It is an "old" book from 2003.
It is outdated already from what I see and read in chapter 1.

I put in a claim yesterday for damage to my roof
from the storm on 6-27-2008.
They will send out a claim adjuster in the next week.

I applied for 3 jobs at West Corporation yesterday.
I had Bill at LHH help me with my resume and cover letter
before I submitted my application.
Bill has many years working in HR,
so he knows what they are looking for.

"When Jesus had finished speaking
he said to Peter,
'Follow me.'"
John 21:19

There it is.
Follow the leader.
Jesus is all-knowing.
You can't go wrong with him.
Trust him to lead you to green valleys.

(May 4, 2009 Mon 6:17 AM CDT)

I received an e-mail that the Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC)
will be available on Tuesday for download.
This is the "final" version of Windows 7.
I like Windows 7 from what I have seen so far.
I have it on my laptop computer.
Maybe I should buy some Microsoft Stock (MSFT) .

Today I have a class on Market Research with CRN at 3:30 PM.
I'm trying to take one class a day.

I have upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 on two computers I have.
I could not to figure out how to shutdown Ubuntu.
The button is now in the upper right corner.

Jesus answered him,
"Scripture has it,
'Not on bread alone shall man live.'"
Luke 4:4

You need more.
You need more than what you can see and touch.
You need to be connected.
You need the Lord.
Jesus, come into my life.
Fill me up.
I need you.

(May 3, 2009 Sun 8:18 AM CDT)

I'm in chapter 10 of the PHP book .
It talks about database normalization .
You quickly run into a need for a zip code database .

And don't forget your Baroque music
to help you learn new things.
I'm sure you can pick out something you
like from the many selections of this previous link.
Here is my favorite:
Johann Pachelbel - Canon in D Major

Jesus said,
"And know that I am with you always,
until the end of the world."
Matthew 28:20

What are you worried about?
Jesus is there with you always.
You have nothing to fear.
He is watching over you.
Ask for what you need.
Expect great things.

(May 2, 2009 Sat 10:35 AM CDT)

Yesterday my retirement gift arrived in the morning rain.
I set it up here in my computer room.
I did get some official papers yesterday
in the mail about my retirement.
That was after I sent the request
to them by FedEx on March 18th.
There was no confirmation letter sent to me
that they had received the request.
Not too responsive.

Lately I've been looking at jobs at West Corporation .
They have openings for Software Engineers.

Something happened with my KVM switch.
It does not work with my main PC.
It works for the ubuntu PC.
Strange.

My printer is acting weird also.
It takes about 5 minutes before it prints things.
Why is there such a delay?
Figure that one out.

"As for you, be steady and self-possessed;
put up with hardship,
perform your work as an evangelist,
fulfill your ministry."
2 Timothy 4:5

God is calling you.
Charge through the hard times.
Don't let anything stop you.
Be focused.
It is your mission.
Fulfill your destiny.

(May 1, 2009 Fri 6:44 AM CDT)

Today I'm taking a class at 11:30 AM
for Building a Target List with CRN.
I finished chapter 7 of the PHP book.
I met a few new people
at a networking session yesterday at LHH.
I took some of the brownies I made to share with them.
Some people are very well educated.
Some people are really down.
Pray for all these people looking for a job.
I'm officially retired today.
I saw my first pension check.
I did not receive any letter in the mail saying I was retired.
I did get a mailing on April 23
