December 1 to 31, 1998

Live in the light
Jesus is the light

Read the Bible

Tell the truth

Witness the light

Be bright

What Child Is This

(December 31, 1998 6:25 AM CST)

One more day to the year.
Bring in the new year with prayer.
Take at least 5 minutes to
thank the Lord for all he has done.

"I have waited,
waited for the Lord,
and he stooped toward me
and heard my cry.
He drew me out of the pit of destruction,
out of the mud of the swamp;
He set my feet upon a crag;
he made firm my steps.
And he put a new song into my mouth,
a hymn to our God.
Many shall look on in awe
and trust in the Lord."
Psalms 40:1-4

I pray that many will hear the song.
Jesus, walk with us.
Open our ears.
Rescue us from destruction.
Be with us step by step.
We wait for you, Lord.
Come and save us.
May we sing to you.
You are deserving of all our praise.
Draw us closer, Lord.
Thank you for this year.
Thank you for each day that you give us.
Each is a gift from you.
Thanks for the snow.
It brightens our world.

(December 30, 1998 7:11 AM CST)

We are getting snow in Omaha
this morning.
It looks bright.

"Be imitators of God as his dear children.
Follow the way of love,
even as Christ loved you.
He gave himself for us
as an offering to God,
a gift of pleasing fragrance."
Ephesians 5:1-2

The Lord is great.
Follow his way.
He gave up everything for his friends.
He was called to serve.
The Lord calls you to come closer.
You are his child.
He has made you.
Offer your life back to him.
Give him something special.
You are a flower.
You are beautiful.
Open up to the sunshine.
You are a snowflake.
You are unique.
Be bright.

(December 29, 1998 6:09 AM CST)

"The apostles returned to Jesus and
reported to him all that they had done
and what they had taught.
He said to them,
'Come by yourselves to an out-of-the-way
place and rest a little.'"
Mark 6:30-31

Do you ever rest?
Do you give yourself a break?
Jesus invites you to rest with him.
Each day find some quiet time
to spend with him.
Find a room and close the door.
Block out the world for a few minutes.
Listen to him.
He will refresh you.
He gives a peace that the world can't give.
Dwell on his greatness.
Praise him.
Rest.

(December 28, 1998 6:02 AM CST)

"The grace of God has appeared,
offering salvation to all men.
It trains us to reject godless ways
and worldly desires, and live temperately,
justly, and devoutly in this age
as we await our blessed hope,
the appearing of the glory of the great God
and of our Savior Christ Jesus.
It was he who sacrificed himself for us,
to redeem us from all unrighteousness and
to cleanse for himself a people of his own,
eager to do what is right."
Titus 2:11-14

Do what is right.
God has given you grace.
Live just as God wants you to live.
Ask God to forgive your sins.
Be on God's side.
Look forward to glory.
Jesus will come again.
Set aside worldly desires.
What is more important?
Choose God.
Live with Jesus.
Pray.

(December 27, 1998 6:58 AM CST)

All raised their voices in prayer:
"'Grant to your servants,
even as they speak your words,
complete assurance
by stretching forth your hand
in cures and signs and wonders
to be worked in the name of Jesus,
your holy Servant.'
The place where they were gathered
shook as they prayed.
They were filled with the Holy Spirit
and continued to speak
God's word with confidence."
Acts 4:29-31

Does your church shake when you pray?
Do you feel an earthquake?
Do you pray for healing?
Stretch forth your hands and pray.
Miracles still happen.
God will bless you with cures
for sickness that doctors can't handle.
See the wonders of God.
Call on the Holy Spirit.
Speak the name of Jesus.
He hears our prayers.
He does wonders.
Have confidence.

(December 26, 1998 6:30 AM CST)

"I will go before you
and level the mountains;
bronze doors I will shatter,
and iron bars I will snap.
I will give you treasures out
of the darkness, and riches
that have been hidden away,
that you may know that
I am the Lord,
the God of Israel,
who calls you by your name."
Isaiah 45:2-3

The Lord is calling you.
Do you hear him?
He has treasures for you.
Open your hands and receive.
He blesses you this day.
He calls you out of darkness.
Come see the light.
Many things are hidden.
You need Jesus to see them.
Hidden treasures.
Go from room to room and find them.
Seek the Lord.
Open your eyes
and see for the first time.

(December 25, 1998 7:11 AM CST)

Merry Christmas!
God bless you in a special way today.

"While they were there the days of
Mary's confinement were completed.
She gave birth to her first-born son
and wrapped him in swaddling clothes
and laid him in a manger,
because there was no room for them
in the place where travelers lodged."
Luke 2:6-7

It was Mary's child.
He was her son.
He was Jesus.
Come today, Jesus.
Be born again in our hearts.
Give us peace.
Bless us with joy
on this Christmas day.

(December 24, 1998 6:06 AM CST)

"The angel said to her:
'Do not fear, Mary.
You have found favor with God.
You shall conceive and bear a son
and give him the name of Jesus.
Great will be his dignity and
he will be called Son of the Most High.
The Lord God will give him
the throne of David his father.
He will rule over the house of Jacob forever
and his reign will be without end.'"
Luke 1:30-33

Jesus will come.
He will make his presence known.
It is Christmas soon.
Will you welcome him?
It is his birthday.
Will you think at all about him?
Are you too busy?
Rejoice.
He is God.
He has come to be among us.
Welcome him this day.
Receive him.
God bless you.

(December 23, 1998 6:02 AM CST)

Someone stole my sister's car.
She says that 1989 GM cars are popular.
Pray for the people that did this.
They need help.

"We give you thanks, O God,
we give thanks,
and we invoke your name;
we declare your wondrous deeds."
Psalms 75:2

Do you ever say "Thank you"?
Are you grateful for what you have?
At a restaurant when they bring your
food or drink, do you say
"Thanks" to that person
or do you ignore them?
It is your attitude.
All good gifts come from heaven above.
Thank the Lord.
Thank others.
Set a good example of thankfulness.
Tell others of God's wonderful deeds
in your life.
He has done many things.
Just think about it.
Thanks.

(December 22, 1998 5:59 AM CST)

Hey, I'm on vacation
and I got up earlier.
It does not make any sense.
Does it?

Jesus said,
"Hear, O Israel!
The Lord our God is Lord alone!
Therefore you shall
love the Lord your God
with all your heart,
with all your soul,
with all your mind,
and with all your strength."
Mark 12:29-30

Yes.
Listen.
Attention.
Love God.
Love your neighbor.
With all that is you.
With the strength of the Lord.
Is your heart into it?
Is your soul touched?
Do you think about what you have
heard and read?
Love Jesus.
He is the promise.
He is your strength.
Continue.

(December 21, 1998 6:08 AM CST)

"And now, brothers, I beg you
through the mercy of God
to offer your bodies as a living
sacrifice holy and acceptable to God,
your spiritual worship.
Do not conform yourselves to this age
but be transformed by the
renewal of your mind,
so that you may judge what is God's will,
what is good, pleasing and perfect."
Romans 12:1-2

God calls you to be different.
The world tells you one thing,
but God calls you to greater things.
You are called to be special.
You are the apple of his eye.
If you are the same as everyone else,
something could be wrong.
God calls you to think different.
You should be transformed.
If your mind is clear,
then you will know
what God is calling you to do.
He calls you to be perfect.
Be renewed.

(December 20, 1998 6:56 AM CST)

Yesterday I watched President Clinton
get impeached on CNN .
I knew it was possible,
but when it happened
it was a shock.
It was a sad day for the USA.
Pray for Clinton.

Jesus said,
"What do you think of this case?
There was a man who had two sons.
He approached the elder and said,
'Son, go out and work in the vineyard
today.' The son replied,
'I am on my way, sir';
but he never went.
Then the man came to his second son
and said the same thing.
This son said in reply,
'No, I will not';
but afterward he regretted it and went.
Which of the two did what the father wanted?"
Matthew 21:28-31

The Lord asks you to do something.
Do you listen?
Do you say 'Yes' or 'No'?
In the end do you do what he wants?
I pray that you will do the will of God.
He asks you to pray.
He asks you to be a witness.
He asks you to be faithful.
So what do you say?
Yes.
Go in the name of Jesus.
There is a way that seems right.
It is pleasing to God.
Follow the light.
God be with you today.
I'm praying for you.

(December 19, 1998 6:26 AM CST)

"Because of this we no longer look
on anyone in terms of mere human
judgment. If at one time we
so regarded Christ, we no longer
know him by this standard.
This means that if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation.
The old order has passed away;
now all is new!
All this has been done by God,
who has reconciled us to himself
through Christ and has given
us the ministry of reconciliation."
2 Corinthians 5:16-18

If Christ lives in you,
you are a new creation.
Come and see.
He will renew you with his strength.
You will find peace on earth.
Can you get any more bad news?
The impeachment and bombings are in
the headlines each day.
You need some good news.
You need to find the truth.
Jesus, come be with us.
Come save us, Lord.
We trust in you.
You are our hope.
You make all things new.
Yes.
You do.
Thanks.

(December 18, 1998 6:05 AM CST)

"May God himself,
who is our Father,
and our Lord Jesus make our
path to you a straight one!
And may the Lord increase you
and make you overflow with love
for one another and for all,
even as our love does for you.
May he strengthen your hearts,
making them blameless and holy
before our God and Father
at the coming of our
Lord Jesus with all his holy ones."
1 Thessalonians 3:11-13

God bless you this Christmas.
He loves you.
God be with you.
May he strengthen you.
May your heart be filled with joy.
Receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Be inspired.
Rejoice.
Do you see the path?
Are you lost?
Are you searching for the perfect
Christmas gift?
You have found him.
It is Jesus.
Yes.
God bless you.

(December 17, 1998 6:06 AM CST)

We pray today for peace in Iraq.
We pray for the bombing to stop.
Pray for my Dad that does not feel well.
Pray for Jerry and his family.
His Mom passed away.
Lord, hear our prayers.

"God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy;
the Lord, amid trumpet blasts.
Sing praise to God, sing praise;
sing praise to our king, sing praise.
For king of all the earth is God;
sing hymns of praise.
God reigns over the nations,
God sits upon his holy throne."
Psalms 47:6-9

The Lord is God.
He is worthy to be praised.
Jesus is king.
He is Lord of all creation.
Give praise to him today.
Honor him.
Sing songs of praise.
Play the trumpet.
Announce his greatness.
He is the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

(December 16, 1998 6:09 AM CST)

"Though he was in the form of God,
he did not deem equality with God
something to be grasped at.
Rather, he emptied himself and
took the form of a slave,
being born in the likeness of men.
He was known to be of human estate,
and it was thus that he humbled himself,
obediently accepting even death,
death on a cross!
Because of this,
God highly exalted him
and bestowed on him the name
above every other name,
so that at Jesus' name
every knee must bend
in the heavens, on the earth,
and under the earth,
and every tongue proclaim
to the glory of God the Father:
Jesus Christ is Lord!"
Philippians 2:6-11

Jesus is God.
He became man.
He humbled himself.
He was born just like all of us.
He is one with us.
We praise him for what he has done.
We praise him for his love.
He loved us that much
to become one of us and
die for us.
Thank you, Jesus.
Thank you for your love.
We kneel down to adore you.
You are the Lord.

(December 15, 1998 6:07 AM CST)

"In the days to come
the mount of the Lord's house
shall be established higher
than the mountains;
it shall rise high above the hills,
and peoples shall stream to it.
Many nations shall come, and say,
'Come, let us climb the mount of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may instruct us in his ways,
that we may walk in his paths.'
For from Zion shall go forth instruction,
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem."
Micah 4:1-2

We are on a journey.
We are following a path.
Hopefully we are climbing the mountain.
We are getting closer to God.
We follow his instructions.
We seek to be with him.
We want to be like him.
Will we make it?
Will we get lost on the way?
Keep your sights on the heavens.
Seek things above.
Don't pay attention to the Stock Market.
It will fail you.
Seek the Lord Jesus.
He is our teacher.
Follow him.
He has promised to keep watch over you.
Look up.

(December 14, 1998 6:06 AM CST)

"The desert and the parched land will exult,
the steppe will rejoice and bloom.
They will bloom with abundant flowers,
and rejoice with joyful song.
...
They will see the glory of the Lord,
the splendor of our God.
...
Streams will burst forth in the desert,
and rivers in the steppe.
The burning sands will become pools,
and the thirsty ground, springs of water."
Isaiah 35:1,2,6,7

You are in the desert.
You are thirsty.
The sun is beating down on you.
You can hardly walk.
You fall down.
You need help.
Will you make it?
Will you find water?
The Lord Jesus is that water.
He is life-saving water.
You will die without him.
You will suffer.
Come.
Find splendor.
Find beauty.
Find life.

Last night at 24th and Martha in
Omaha I bought gas for
85.9 cents per gallon.
How low can it go?
And President Clinton
might get impeached.
I pray that whatever is best for the
USA happens.
And we might set another record high today.
That is nice.
It does not feel like December at all.
The donations to charities are down
they say because of the nice weather.
If it was colder,
people would give more money.
Is that true?

(December 13, 1998 7:20 AM CST)

"Jesus explained to them:
'I myself am the bread of life.
No one who comes to me
shall ever be hungry,
no one who believes in me
shall ever thirst.'"
John 6:35

You are searching.
Your heart is empty.
The love of this world leaves you cold.
You need a special love from above.
Jesus loves you.
Do you believe this?
He is what you need.
He is what you are searching for.
He will fill you with peace.
You will find joy.
He is the one.
Do you accept him?
He will fill your heart.
You will be satisfied.
You will come home.
Find comfort.

(December 12, 1998 6:55 AM CST)

"The angel said to him:
'Do not be frightened, Zechariah;
your prayer has been heard.
Your wife Elizabeth shall bear a son
whom you shall name John.
Joy and gladness will be yours,
and many will rejoice at his birth;
for he will be great
in the eyes of the Lord.'"
Luke 1:13-15

Zechariah and Elizabeth prayed.
They prayed for a child.
The Lord heard their prayers.
They were blessed with John.
Agree in prayer today.
Join with at least one other person.
It is the way Jesus planned it.
You need others.
We need each other's support.
Stand with others.
It is much more powerful.
Sing together.
Share together.
Join with others in activities
to help the poor.
Then you will find joy and gladness.
It is in giving that you receive.

(December 11, 1998 6:10 AM CST)

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name:
you are mine.
When you pass through the water,
I will be with you;
in the rivers you shall not drown.
When you walk through fire,
you shall not be burned;
the flames shall not consume you.
For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your savior."
Isaiah 43:1-3

The Lord be with you.
God bless you today.
May God protect you today.
I pray for you when you drive.
God keep you safe from all harm.
His angels will watch over you.
Give praise to God.
Bless his holy name.
Thank the Lord.
He is with you.
Praise the Lord.

(December 10, 1998 6:07 AM CST)

"Trust in the Lord and do good,
that you may dwell in the land
and enjoy security.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will grant you
your heart's requests.
Commit to the Lord your way;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will make justice dawn for you
like the light;
bright as the noonday
shall be your vindication."
Psalms 37:3-6

Come and see.
Here is the baby Jesus.
Kneel down and say a prayer.
Be with him.
Look at him.
He is the hope of the world.
He is so small.
He is so sweet.
Give your heart to him.
Trust him.
You smile at him.
You are filled with joy and wonder.
His face is so bright.
He is all goodness.
You feel at peace.
What will this child be?
He is the one promised for generations.
Come and see.

(December 9, 1998 6:10 AM CST)

"Tell those who are rich in this world's
goods not to be proud, and not to rely
on so uncertain a thing as wealth.
Let them trust in the God who provides
us richly with all things for our use.
Charge them to do good, to be rich in
good works and generous, sharing
what they have. Thus will they build
a secure foundation for the future,
for receiving that life which is
life indeed."
1 Timothy 6:17-19

Do you rely on God to take care of you
or on your money?
Someday your money will all be gone
and what will you be left with?
Be generous.
Buy a Christmas gift for someone
that has little money.
The Salvation Army has an "Angel Tree"
at the mall with names of children
needing a gift.
Share.
Think of others.
Build a new foundation.
Find life ---
Life indeed.

(December 8, 1998 6:02 AM CST)

"Mary said,
'My being proclaims
the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit finds joy in God my savior,
for he has looked upon his servant
in her lowliness;
all ages to come shall call me blessed.
God who is mighty has done
great things for me,
holy is his name;
His mercy is from age to age
on those who fear him.'"
Luke 1:46-50

We should proclaim God's greatness.
We should find joy in knowing Jesus.
Let us be a servant.
Let us be humble.
May we all be holy
with the help of God.
Receive God's mercy.
It is yours for the asking.
Let us pray as Mary did.
Let us look forward to the
birth of Jesus.
God be with us.
Let us have expectant faith.

(December 7, 1998 6:03 AM CST)

I was in Wahoo, Nebraska yesterday
around 4 PM and saw a live Nativity
scene. These children were there
with all these animals right on
Highway 77. It was Mary, Joseph,
angels, shepherds and wise men.
The baby Jesus was just a toy baby.
The temperature was 33F (1C) degrees
on a sign down the highway.
It was cold.
God bless them.

"There were shepherds in that region,
living in the fields and keeping
night watch by turns over their flocks.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them
as the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were very much afraid."
Luke 2:8-9

The angels came.
The shepherds were afraid.
The bright glory of the Lord was revealed.
They had to go and see.
Jesus came to earth.
He was very bright.
He was just a baby.
He was real.
What child is this ?
Mary and Joseph were so young.
The Lord was with them.
They held him in their arms.
He was real.

(December 6, 1998 7:23 AM CST)

the deaf shall hear
the words of a book;
And out of gloom and darkness
the eyes of the blind shall see.
The lowly will ever
find joy in the Lord,
and the poor rejoice in the
Holy One of Israel."
Isaiah 29:18-19

Can you see?
Do you hear?
Are you poor?
On that day...
you will see,
you will hear,
you will be made low.
The Lord is coming.
He is coming soon.
Bow down.
Fall to your knees.
He is King of all creation.
He will perform a miracle.
He will change you.
This is my Christmas wish for you.
I hope and pray you find Jesus.
I pray you will see new things.
I pray that you will read and hear
God's words.
I pray that you will associate with
the poor and forgotten in this life.
Be with them.
This is my wish.

(December 5, 1998 7:17 AM CST)

Happy Birthday, John!
God bless you today!

"The Lord is my light
and my salvation;
whom should I fear?
The Lord is my life's refuge;
of whom should I be afraid?
When evildoers come at me
to devour my flesh,
My foes and my enemies themselves
stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart will not fear;
Though war be waged upon me,
even then will I trust."
Psalms 27:1-3

Do not fear.
The Lord is your light.
Jesus is your hope.
He is your protection.
The enemy has no power over him.
The Lord is on your side.
You can be outnumbered and win.
He is your defender.
Jesus will win.
You will win.
Dwell with the Lord.
Camp with him.
Be confident.
The Lord is with you.

(December 4, 1998 6:01 AM CST)

"I will make you a light to the nations,
that my salvation may reach
to the ends of the earth."
Isaiah 49:6

Are you a light?
Are you bright?
If you let Jesus into your life,
he will change you.
You will be renewed.
Then you can witness
to what he has done for you.
Be a witness (a light) in your school.
Tell your friends about Jesus.
Share what you know.

"How can they believe unless
they have heard of him?"
Romans 10:14

Words must be said.
Hearing it from you makes it real.
Brighten up the world.

(December 3, 1998 6:03 AM CST)

"In the beginning was the Word;
the Word was in God's presence,
and the Word was God.
He was present to God in the beginning.
Through him all things came into being,
and apart from him nothing came to be.
Whatever came to be in him, found life,
life for the light of men.
The light shines on in darkness,
a darkness that did not overcome it."
John 1:1-5

I watched them light the Christmas tree
in Rockefeller Center last night on TV.
Beautiful.
Garth and Hillary were there.
People waited and waited and waited
for them to light it.
What takes them so long!
Hit the switch!
People waited and waited and waited
for the light to come into the world.
Jesus is that light.
You are in the dark.
You need that beauty.
You need that brightness.
Check it out.
I think you have waited long enough.

(December 2, 1998 6:08 AM CST)

"In the beginning,
when God created
the heavens and the earth,
the earth was a formless wasteland,
and darkness covered the abyss,
while a mighty wind swept over the waters.
Then God said,
'Let there be light,'
and there was light."
Genesis 1:1-3

Yes, let there be light.
Drive the darkness away.
May you come to know God
and his goodness more and more.
Have you ever tried to find
something in a darkened room?
You feel your way around.
You know it is there,
but just can't grasp it.
Once you flip the light switch on
it is so much easier.
Why feel around in the darkness?
Yes, you are.
You are just wandering around
in a darkened room.
Turn on the lights.
See the truth.
It makes it so much easier to see.
If you have Jesus in your life,
it makes life less complicated.
You can see the path.
You can see the truth.
Turn on the light.

(December 1, 1998 6:03 AM CST)

It is hard to believe it is December.
The weather is so nice.
We set another record high of
72F (22C) on November 29.
The price of gasoline is very low
at 89.9 cents in some places.
The Lord has been very kind to us
this year.
Count your blessings.

"The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul;
The decree of the Lord is trustworthy,
giving wisdom to the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
The command of the Lord is clear,
enlightening the eye;
The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever;
The ordinances of the Lord are true,
all of them just;
They are more precious than gold,
than a heap of purest gold;
Sweeter also than syrup
or honey from the comb."
Psalms 19:8-11

Do you believe it?
The word of the Lord is worth more
than the money from winning the
$33 million Powerball Lottery
in Hastings, Nebraska on November 28.
It is.
You don't need to win the lottery.
It could destroy your life, in fact.
They say that you lose all your friends.
God's decrees are simple:
Love God.
Love your neighbor.
Do you have joy in your heart?
Rejoice in reading his many promises.
His teachings are right.
Be faithful if you are married.
We all know what happens
when you are not faithful.
It is a lesson for all of us.
Go find some syrup or honey.
Take a taste.
It is sweet.
