January 1 to 31, 1999

Be Renewed
Jesus Is Life

He Makes All Things New

See His Creation

Come Alive

There Is Hope

(January 31, 1999 7:22 AM CST)

I just brought in the newspaper.
There is a light rain falling which is
not a good idea in the wintertime.
I hope the temperature is above freezing.

"For you are my hope, O Lord;
my trust, O God, from my youth.
On you I depend from birth;
from my mother's womb
you are my strength;
constant has been my hope in you.
A portent am I to many,
but you are my strong refuge!
My mouth shall be filled with your praise,
with your glory day by day."
Psalms 71:5-8

Day by day
walk with the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
He is your refuge.
He is your strength.
The Lord is your hope.
Jesus is your only hope.
Trust him.
Lean on him.
It is Sunday.
Go to church today.
Worship God.
He has done so much for you.
Thank him.
He was with you on the day
you were born and
is still there today.

(January 30, 1999 7:30 AM CST)

Jesus said,
"Do not be surprised that I tell you
you must all be begotten from above.
The wind blows where it will.
You hear the sound it makes
but you do not know where it comes from,
or where it goes.
So it is with everyone
begotten of the Spirit."
John 3:7-8

Are you surprised?
Jesus said many surprising things.
Be begotten.
Be renewed.
Receive the Holy Spirit.
Hear the wind.
Feel it push you and move you.
You can't see the wind.
You can't see the Spirit,
but the Spirit is there.
The Spirit will change you.
Your life starts over.
You are a new creation.
Take a walk today outside
and feel the wind blow.
See what it does.
That is your homework.
Homework?
Yes.

(January 29, 1999 6:05 AM CST)

Hey, thank God.
It is Friday.
You made it with the grace of God.

"Whatever promises God has made
have been fulfilled in Christ;
therefore it is through him
that we address our Amen to God
when we worship together.
God is the one who firmly establishes
us along with you in Christ;
it is he who anointed us and has sealed us,
thereby depositing the first payment,
the Spirit, in our hearts."
2 Corinthians 1:20-22

God has done his part.
Will you do your part?
He has made the first payment.
Your heart was changed.
Will your life be different?
Pray with others.
Worship Jesus at church.
Say, "Amen" ("so be it").
It is true.
It is the truth.
These are words to live by.
Your heart is renewed.
You can love again.
The Holy Spirit will teach you.
Be a new creation!
Be changed.
Be established in Christ.

(January 28, 1999 6:08 AM CST)

"Thus will I bless you while I live;
lifting up my hands,
I will call upon your name.
As with the riches of a banquet
shall my soul be satisfied,
and with exultant lips
my mouth shall praise you.
I will remember you upon my couch,
and through the night-watches
I will meditate on you.
That you are my help,
and in the shadow of your wings
I shout for joy.
My soul clings fast to you;
your right hand upholds me."
Psalms 63:5-9

Bless the Lord.
Focus on him.
Meditate on Almighty God.
Hide under his wings.
Be protected.
Shout with joy.
(You shout watching football games ).
Cling to Jesus.
Never let go.
Make a joyful sound to the Lord.
Sing his praise.
Be surrounded with his angels.
The Lord bless you
and keep you.

(January 27, 1999 6:04 AM CST)

Jesus said,
"You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Men do not light a lamp and
then put it under a bushel basket.
They set it on a stand
where it gives light to all in the house.
In the same way,
your light must shine before men
so that they may see goodness
in your acts and
give praise to your heavenly Father."
Matthew 5:14-16

Last night in St. Louis, Missouri
this was what the Pope told the
20,000 young people at the Youth Rally .
Be a light to the world.
The world is in such darkness.
We need more light.
Pray ---
instant communication with God.
Say to Jesus,
"Here I am Lord, I come to do your will."
Hebrews 10:7

(January 26, 1999 6:06 AM CST)

"We keep thanking God for all of you
and we remember you in our prayers,
for we constantly are mindful
before our God and Father
of the way you are proving your faith,
and laboring in love, and
showing constancy of hope
in our Lord Jesus Christ.
We know, too, brothers beloved of God,
how you were chosen."
1 Thessalonians 1:2-4

God chose you.
He searched for you.
He found you.
Do you say thanks?
Remember those around you.
They are special blessings.
Be thankful for them.
Pray for them.
Pray for your family and friends
and people you work with or
go to school with.
You are special.
They are special.
You are blessed.
They are blessed.
Prove your faith.
Labor in love.
Hope in Jesus.

(January 25, 1999 6:10 AM CST)

"A dispute arose among them about
who should be regarded as the greatest.
Jesus said:
'Earthly kings lord it over their people.
Those who exercise authority over them
are called their benefactors. Yet it
cannot be that way with you. Let the
greater among you be as the junior,
the leader as the servant. Who, in fact,
is the greater --- he who reclines at
table or he who serves the meal?'"
Luke 22:24-27

Jesus set the example.
He washed the disciples feet one day.
He is Lord of Lords
and yet he can wash feet.
It is hard to understand.
He wants us to be servants.
He wants us to serve.
So what are you going to do?
Do you go to a store and DEMAND
to be served right away?
Are you that important?
When you drive down the street
do you have to be the first
one to the red light?
Do you want to be first in line
all the time?
Think about it.
Be a servant today.

(January 24, 1999 7:36 AM CST)

(January 23, 1999 7:26 AM CST)

Happy Birthday, Rachel!
God bless you.

We did not get 3 inches (8 cm) of snow.
It was less than an inch (3 cm).

I guess the Carman Concert
for Denver has been postponed.
Sorry.

"He himself made us a promise and
the promise is no less than this:
eternal life.
I have written you these things
about those who try to deceive you.
As for you,
the anointing you received from him
remains in your hearts."
1 John 2:25-27

There is a promise.
Jesus promised eternal life.
Do you believe it?
Do you trust Jesus and his word?
Did you receive the anointing?
Is it in your heart?
Don't be deceived.
The things of this world
will not make you happy.
Seek after eternal things
that are out of this world.
Be holy.
Be anointed.
The promise is yours,
if you want it.

(January 22, 1999 6:09 AM CST)

It's snowing here in Omaha .
Maybe we will get 3 inches (8 cm).

"See what love the Father has bestowed on us
in letting us be called children of God!
Yet that is what we are.
The reason the world does not recognize us
is that it never recognized the Son.
Dearly beloved,
we are God's children now;
what we shall later be
has not yet come to light.
We know that when it comes to light
we shall be like him,
for we shall see him as he is.
Everyone who has this hope based on him
keeps himself pure, as he is pure."
1 John 3:1-3

Are you a child?
Do you trust your father?
Do you believe in miracles?
Have that child-like faith.
Trust in Jesus.
Everything will work out.
Believe in God.
Dream about heaven.
What will it be like?
Grow in faith and hope.
Be secure.
Be at home.
God is pure.
Be like him.
Be innocent.
Be blameless.
Follow in his steps.
Learn to walk.

(January 21, 1999 6:11 AM CST)

I just found out about a family in Ohio.
Their mother was killed in a
car accident on the way to work
a few days ago.
So pray for them.
Thanks.
And please, drive safely.

"Beloved,
let us love one another
because love is of God;
everyone who loves is begotten of God
and has knowledge of God.
The man without love has known
nothing of God,
for God is love."
1 John 4:7-8

Love.
Love your neighbor.
Reach out to those in
pain and sorrow today.
It is not easy,
but God will help you.
Do you know God?
Love God.
Seek him.
Serve him.
Be born again.
Born of the Spirit.

(January 20, 1999 6:11 AM CST)

"The way we know we remain in him
and he in us is that
he has given us of his Spirit.
We have seen for ourselves,
and can testify, that the Father
has sent the Son as savior of the world.
When anyone acknowledges that
Jesus is the Son of God,
God dwells in him
and he in God.
We have come to know and to believe
in the love God has for us."
1 John 4:13-16

Receive the Holy Spirit.
Receive the gifts of the Spirit.
See for yourself.
Then you will know.
You will understand.
You will believe.
Acknowledge Jesus.
He is the Lord.
Jesus loves you.
He wants to be part of your life.
Turn from sin.
Be holy.
God is calling you.
Receive new life.
Then you will know.

(January 19, 1999 6:09 AM CST)

"God is love,
and he who abides in love
abides in God,
and God in him.
Our love is brought to perfection in this,
that we should have confidence
on the day of judgment;
for our relation to this world is just like his.
Love has no room for fear;
rather, perfect love casts out all fear."
1 John 4:16-18

God is love.
Love as he does.
Have no fear.
Live with confidence.
Be with the Lord.
Stay close.
Comfort others.
Bring them in.
Shelter them.
Pull them away from the world.
Come away.
Find the love of Jesus.
It is a love out of this world.
Abide.

(January 18, 1999 6:03 AM CST)

"The man who claims to be in light,
hating his brother all the while,
is in darkness even now.
The man who continues in the light
is the one who loves his brother;
there is nothing in him to cause a fall.
But the man who hates his brother
is in darkness.
He walks in shadows,
not knowing where he is going,
since the dark has blinded his eyes."
1 John 2:9-11

Have you forgiven everyone?
Yes.
Everyone.
No exceptions.
Forgive.
Do you hate anyone?
Love.
Change your heart.
Ask Jesus to teach you to love.
Come see the light.
Be free of hate.
Fill your heart with joy.
Be a new creation.
Turn the page.
One morning you will wake up
and you will be a new person.
Continue in the light.

(January 17, 1999 7:19 AM CST)

"One day when Jesus was praying in seclusion
and his disciples were with him,
he put the question to them,
'Who do the crowds say that I am?'
'John the Baptizer,' they replied,
'and some say Elijah, while others claim
that one of the prophets of old
has returned from the dead.'
'But you --- who do you say that I am?'
he asked them.
Peter said in reply,
'The Messiah of God.'
He strictly forbade them
to tell this to anyone.
'The Son of Man,' he said,
must first endure many sufferings,
be rejected by the elders, the high priests
and the scribes, and be put to death,
and then be raised up on the third day.'"
Luke 9:18-22

They took a poll back then.
The polls were wrong.
Don't rely on polls to find the truth.
Who is Jesus?
What do you say?
Jesus prayed.
If Jesus prayed,
you need to pray.
Jesus knew he would die.
He knew he would suffer.
He continued.
It would not be easy.
He did it for love.
He loves you.
That's why he did it.
There is a time to talk
and a time to remain silent.
Now is the time to proclaim
the good news of Jesus.
Speak.
The world is listening.
They want to know the truth.
Continue.

After listening to the news broadcasts
day after day --- you wonder:
what is the truth
and does anyone care?
People are more worried about the Stock Market.
That is amazing.
How can people do that?
Is the president guilty or not?
It is scary that people
can do that to the truth.

(January 16, 1999 7:50 AM CST)

As we get closer to the year 2000,
it is getting too weird for me.
My sister was saying that the
National Guard will be on alert
that day in case anything happens.
And what's going to happen?
It will be a Saturday.
No big deal.
I have deleted the year 2000
counter for the number of days
until it happens.
I guess I over did it.
It is just like any other day.
The sun will come up and the
sun will go down, so don't
get too carried away.

"Everyone who believes that
Jesus is the Christ
has been begotten of God.
Now, everyone who loves the father
loves the child he has begotten.
We can be sure that we love God's children
when we love God
and do what he has commanded.
The love of God consists in this:
that we keep his commandments ---
and his commandments are not burdensome.
Everyone begotten of God conquers the world,
and the power that has conquered the world
is this faith of ours."
1 John 5:1-4

Why are there traffic laws?
Green means 'Go'.
Red means 'Stop'.
Why have these rules?
It creates order.
It creates safety.
It means that you won't get hurt,
unless someone breaks the rule.
God makes the rules.
They are not a burden.
They are there to create order.
They are there for your safety.
You won't get hurt.
Follow the commandments.
Love God.
Love your neighbor.
Tell the truth.
Don't steal.
Keep things simple.

(January 15, 1999 6:05 AM CST)

"So let us confidently approach
the throne of grace
to receive mercy and favor
and to find help in time of need."
Hebrews 4:16

Come forward.
Come with confidence.
Ask Jesus for mercy.
He will forgive you.
Ask him for your needs.
He will hear you.
Call on the name of the Lord.
He will not fail you.
He is the answer.
You need him.
How can you survive without him?
Receive grace.

(January 14, 1999 6:07 AM CST)

"Continue, therefore,
to live in Christ Jesus the Lord,
in the spirit in which you received him.
Be rooted in him and built up in him,
growing ever stronger in faith,
as you were taught, and
overflowing with gratitude.
See to it that no one deceives you
through any empty, seductive philosophy
that follows mere human traditions,
a philosophy based on cosmic powers
rather than on Christ."
Colossians 2:6-8

Continue on the path.
The Lord has given you talents.
What are you doing with them?
He has given you a mind to think.
Can you see the truth?
He has given you faith.
Do you believe in Jesus?
The ways of the world will leave you empty.
Follow the Lord.
He will teach you.
He will show you the way.
Trust in him.
I'm praying for you
to see the truth.
Continue.

Sincerely,
Dan

(January 13, 1999 6:06 AM CST)

"Rejoice in the Lord always!
I say it again.
Rejoice!
Everyone should see how unselfish you are.
The Lord is near.
Dismiss all anxiety from your minds.
Present your needs to God
in every form of prayer
and in petitions full of gratitude.
Then God's own peace,
which is beyond all understanding,
will stand guard over your hearts and minds,
in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:4-7

Do you have peace in your life?
Are you under a lot of stress?
The Lord will give you a new heart
and a new mind.
He will guard you.
He will walk with you.
You will find peace.
The Lord Jesus is near.
Reach out your hand to him.
He is there.
Push aside all anxiety.
Come away.
Find what you truly need.
Ask the Lord for help.
He is there.
Rejoice.
Again.

(January 12, 1999 6:10 AM CST)

"Open to me the gates of justice;
I will enter them and
give thanks to the Lord.
This gate is the Lord's;
the just shall enter it.
I will give thanks to you,
for you have answered me
and have been my savior.
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
By the Lord has this been done;
it is wonderful in our eyes.
This is the day the Lord has made;
let us be glad and rejoice in it."
Psalms 118:19-24

Be careful what you reject.
Examine things closely.
Take your time.
Take a good long look.
Do you see Jesus?
He is a solid foundation.
He is the cornerstone.
Don't reject him.
Build your life on him.
Put your full weight on him.
Find solid ground.
Today is the day.
Be glad.
Rejoice.

(January 11, 1999 6:07 AM CST)

"Who, for example, knows a man's innermost self
but the man's own spirit within him?
Similarly, no one knows what lies at
the depths of God but the Spirit of God.
The Spirit we have received is not the
world's spirit but God's Spirit,
helping us to recognize the gifts
he has given us."
1 Corinthians 2:11-12

If you don't see things,
you need the Spirit.
If you don't understand,
you need the Holy Spirit.
Do you ever think about God?
He is big.
If he made all those stars,
he is big ---
very big.
The earth is just a grain of sand
in the Sahara Desert .
We are small ---
tiny.
And yet,
God is concerned about us ---
each of us.
He loves us.
He knows us all by name.
He is concerned about us.
Think about God.
Dwell on Jesus Christ.
Call on the Holy Spirit to
teach us about God and who he is.

(January 10, 1999 7:29 AM CST)

It is the Lord's day.
Make it a special day.
Praise the Lord at church.
Sing songs and rejoice.

"The community of believers were of
one heart and one mind.
None of them ever claimed anything
as his own; rather,
everything was held in common.
With power the apostles bore witness
to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus,
and great respect was paid to them all;
nor was there anyone needy among them,
for all who owned property or houses
sold them and donated the proceeds.
They used to lay them
at the feet of the apostles
to be distributed to everyone
according to his need."
Acts 4:32-35

Do you share?
Do you care for others?
You have been given gifts.
Think of others.
Give the gift that you have received away.
Don't be attached to the things of this world.
Be aware of others.
What is happening in their lives?
Be concerned.
That way all will have what they need.

(January 9, 1999 7:46 AM CST)

"As we had heard,
so have we seen
in the city of the Lord of hosts,
In the city of our God;
God makes it firm forever.
O God, we ponder your kindness
within your temple.
As your name, O God, so also your praise
reaches to the ends of the earth.
Of justice your right hand is full;
let Mount Zion be glad,
Let the cities of Judah rejoice,
because of your judgments."
Psalms 48:9-12

Over the centuries many have seen
the power of God.
They have seen his wonders.
They have experienced his presence.
We stand on their shoulders.
We are blessed by their writings.
We pray as they did.
God is the same yesterday, today, forever.
He is there.
His judgments are tested by time.
He knows what is best.
Pray to him.
Worship him.
Bless his name.
Think about him often.
He is almighty God.
Forever.

(January 8, 1999 6:08 AM CST)

"I thank God always, my brother,
as I commend you in my prayers,
for I keep hearing of your love and faith
toward the Lord Jesus and all God's people.
And my prayer is that your sharing of the faith
with others may enable you to know all
the good which is ours in Christ.
I find great joy and comfort in your love,
because through you the hearts of
God's people have been refreshed."
Philemon 1:4-7

Be refreshed.
Share your faith with others.
Let it grow and grow.
Love the Lord Jesus.
Give him all that you are.
Pray.
Do good.
Write letters to others.
Encourage them.
Be strong.
Find joy.
Find comfort.

(January 7, 1999 6:00 AM CST)

"Brothers, since the blood of Jesus
assures our entrance into the sanctuary
by the new and living path he has opened up
for us through the veil,
and since we have a great priest
who is over the house of God,
let us draw near in utter sincerity
and absolute confidence,
our hearts sprinkled clean from the evil
which lay on our conscience
and our bodies washed in pure water."
Hebrews 10:19-22

The door is now open.
You can enter.
Jesus opened the door.
He gave his life.
His blood was shed.
The veil has been lifted.
You can now continue on your path.
Have confidence.
Be washed clean.
Push evil aside.
Find holiness.
Find pure water.
It is clear.

(January 6, 1999 6:06 AM CST)

"This is what we proclaim to you:
what was from the beginning,
what we have heard,
what we have seen with our eyes,
what we have looked upon
and our hands have touched ---
we speak of the word of life."
1 John 1:1

The words in the Bible are alive.
As you read them something happens.
Your thoughts are changed.
Your attitude is different.
There is hope.
There is meaning.
See it.
Live it.
Ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten you.
Be inspired.
Be changed.
Be renewed.

(January 5, 1999 6:05 AM CST)

"I assure you, brothers,
the gospel I proclaimed to you
is no mere human invention.
I did not receive it from any man,
nor was I schooled in it.
It came by revelation from Jesus Christ."
Galatians 1:11-12

Jesus brought the good news to the world.
It is from God.
It is the word of God.
God revealed himself to us.
He came to earth.
He set an example.
It is because of him that there is hope.
He brought light to the world.
He brought life to the world.
He says: receive new life.
Learn from him.
He is your teacher.
Come and see.
Learn something new this year.
Study the Bible.

(January 4, 1999 6:02 AM CST)

Vacation is over for me,
so I'm going back to work today.

Jesus said,
"Blest are those persecuted for holiness sake;
the reign of God is theirs.
Blest are you when they insult you and
persecute you and utter every kind
of slander against you because of me.
Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is
great in heaven; they persecuted the
prophets before you in the very same way."
Matthew 5:10-12

Do people laugh at you?
Do they give you a hard time?
If you stand up for Jesus,
you will get feedback.
You will not be popular.
It takes courage.
It takes strength.
Jesus will stand with you.
Jesus did not say a word
when they beat him.
How do you handle it?
Offer it up.
Do as Jesus would do.
Your reward will be great.

(January 3, 1999 7:11 AM CST)

"As regards specific times and moments,
brothers, we do not need to write you;
you know very well that the day of the Lord
is coming like a thief in the night.
Just when people are saying,
'Peace and security,' ruin will fall on them
with the suddenness of pains overtaking
a woman in labor,
and there will be no escape.
You are not in the dark, brothers,
that the day should catch you off guard,
like a thief.
No, all of you are children of
light and of the day."
1 Thessalonians 5:1-5

Are you ready?
If the Lord calls you home today,
are you prepared?
There will be no escape.
A time will come
when you will die.
No one wants to talk about death,
but one day you will face it.
You think that you are so secure.
Material things will fail you.
Build up "wealth" in heaven.
Jesus is your security.
Him alone.

(January 2, 1999 8:00 AM CST)

We are getting more and more snow
here in Omaha .
It's about 6 inches (15 centimeters)
deep so far.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways,
says the Lord.
As high as the heavens are above the earth,
so high are my ways above your ways
and my thoughts above your thoughts.
For just as from the heavens
the rain and snow come down
and do not return there
until they have watered the earth,
making it fertile and fruitful,
giving seed to him who sows
and bread to him who eats,
so shall my word be
that goes forth from my mouth;
it shall not return to me void,
but shall do my will,
achieving the end for which I sent it."
Isaiah 55:8-11

We start a new year.
We read God's words in the Bible.
It will change our lives.
It will help us to grow.
We respond to God's words and
other people's lives are changed.
It is like a flood.
It changes things.
People get moved.
The Holy Spirit comes.
We see things new.
The Scriptures come alive.
Let it rain, Lord.
Let is snow.
Renew us, Lord Jesus.

(January 1, 1999 6:57 AM CST)

Happy New Year!
God bless you this year.
May it be a year of many blessings.

"I will extol you, O my God and King,
and I will bless your name
forever and ever.
Every day will I bless you,
and I will praise your name
forever and ever.
Great is the Lord and highly to be praised;
his greatness is unsearchable.
Generation after generation praises your
works and proclaims your might.
They speak of the splendor of your
glorious majesty and tell of your
wondrous works."
Psalms 145:1-5

We give you praise and thanks, Lord.
You have created all things.
They reflect your glory.
We see the sparkle in the snow.
We see how wonderful you are.
We join all generations
in our praise to you.
We read your words of life
passed down to us.
We thank you for another year.
May each day bring us closer to you.
Bring the lost home.
Thanks for your many blessings
last year.
You are so good to us.
We give you praise and thanks.
