April 1 to 30, 1999

Praise the Lord
Give thanks to God

Praise the name of Jesus

He is amazing

Let your heart sing

Be renewed

The Answer is Love

(April 30, 1999 6:08 AM CDT)

"Then Peter came up and asked Jesus,
'Lord, when my brother wrongs me,
how often must I forgive him?
Seven times?'
'No,' Jesus replied,
'not seven times;
I say, seventy times seven times.'"
Matthew 18:21-22

Forgive.
Yes, forgive them.
They tried to kill 500 people,
but you need to forgive them.
Then the healing can begin.
The word "Healing" was displayed
last night on NBC Nightly News .
It will not be easy.
You will need the strength of the Lord.
You can't do it yourself.
Ask Jesus to help you.
He forgave all those that killed him.
Forgive.

(April 29, 1999 6:09 AM CDT)

"As he traveled along and was approaching
Damascus, a light from the sky
suddenly flashed about him.
He fell to the ground and at the
same time heard a voice saying,
'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?'
'Who are you, sir?' he asked.
The voice answered,
'I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting.
Get up and go into the city,
where you will be told what to do.'"
Acts 9:3-6

Paul was knocked off his horse.
He lost his sight.
He was attacking the Christians.
Jesus stopped him.
He was fighting the Lord.
Jesus told him what he was doing.
Jesus turned his life around.
Get up.
Start again.
Receive your sight back.
Don't fight the Lord.
Turn your life around.
See the light.

(April 28, 1999 6:12 AM CDT)

"The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me in right paths
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff
that give me courage."
Psalms 23:1-4

Jesus is there.
He is your shepherd.
He will lead you.
He will protect you in the darkness.
He is at your side.
He is in control.
Have courage.

(April 27, 1999 6:05 AM CDT)

Jesus said,
"He is a liar
and the father of lies."
John 8:44

Jesus was referring to the devil.
The devil is a liar.
There is no truth in him.
He hides the truth.
He is darkness.
What voices are you listening to?
What do you believe?
Who do you follow?
Follow Jesus.
He is truth.
He is the light.
He brings joy and peace.
Believe in him.

(April 26, 1999 6:02 AM CDT)

Jesus said,
"There is no greater love than this:
to lay down one's life for one's friends."
John 15:13

Dave Sanders did that.
He cared more about the students
than about his own life.
He was a true hero.

If you live in the Denver area,
you can listen to KWBI FM 91.1 .
It is a Christian radio station.
It may comfort you
in this time of great loss.
Or lookup a Christian radio station near you.

(April 25, 1999 7:20 AM CDT)

Love is more powerful than hate.

Jesus said,
"As the Father has loved me,
so I have loved you.
Live on in my love.
You will live in my love
if you keep my commandments,
even as I have kept my Father's commandments,
and live in his love.
All this I tell you
that my joy may be yours
and your joy may be complete.
This is my commandment:
love one another
as I have loved you."
John 15:9-12

The sign hanging from a bridge over a
street in Littleton asked:
When will it end?
The violence will end when we love.
Love one another.
Respect each other.
We are all different.
We are all gifted.
Jesus even made it a commandment:
Love.
Will you do it?
Will you reach out?
Do you care?
You can overcome hate.
Love.
Then there will be joy.
Rachel Scott's
middle name was joy.
She believed in Jesus.

(April 24, 1999 7:24 AM CDT)

"May he who is the Lord of peace
give you continued peace
in every possible way.
The Lord be with you all.
This greeting is in my own hand --- Paul's.
I append this signature
to every letter I write.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
be with you all."
2 Thessalonians 3:16-18

Peace.
It only comes from knowing Jesus Christ.
It is calm in the midst of the storm.
It is healing for your pain and sorrow.
It is comfort.
It is a hug and a smile.
It is sharing tears.
It is that rainbow in the sky
after the rain has passed.
It is love from above.
Lean on Jesus.
You are only so strong.
You need help to survive.
God will bless you.
He will give you grace.
He has written you a letter.
It is signed --- God.
Read his words in the Bible.
There is something between the words.
It will heal you.
It will bring you peace.
The Lord be with you.

(April 23, 1999 6:07 AM CDT)

"You know well enough that
such trials are our common lot.
When we were still with you,
we used to warn you
that we would undergo trial;
now it has happened,
and you know what we meant.
That is why I sent to find out
about your faith when I could
stand the suspense no longer,
fearing that the tempter
had put you to the test
and all our labor might
have gone for nothing."
1 Thessalonians 3:3-5

You will be tempted.
You will undergo many trials.
Will you win?
Will you stand firm?
Will your faith survive?
Call on the name of Jesus.
He is your strength.
When you are down
he will pick you up.
He will forgive you.
Keep going.
Do not give up hope.
Get up.
Jesus, forgive me.
I have sinned.
Turn my life around.
Help me to build your kingdom.
Help me to start over again.
Renew my heart.
Help me.

(April 22, 1999 6:09 AM CDT)

Jesus said,
"You are badly misled
because you fail to understand
the Scriptures
and the power of God."
Matthew 22:29

Don't be misled.
God is in control.
Read the Bible.
See what God has to say.
Understand...
and be understanding.
Learn of God and his ways.
God is all power.
He rules the universe.
Look to him.
Seek the truth (Jesus).
Then you will know.
Know God.

(April 21, 1999 6:08 AM CDT)

Our hearts and prayers go out this morning
to the people in Littleton, Colorado .
We will pray for you.
May God comfort you.

Do something nice for someone today.
Overcome evil with good.

(April 20, 1999 6:10 AM CDT)

"But those things I used to consider gain
I have now reappraised as loss
in the light of Christ.
I have come to rate all
as loss in the light
of the surpassing knowledge of
my Lord Jesus Christ."
Philippians 3:7-8

You have been changed.
You are different now.
Sin is a loss.
It is a disappointment.
It is a life gone wrong.
Light has come into your life.
You see more clearly.
You see what is truly important.
You know Jesus.
He is the light.
He shows you new things every day.
Gain new knowledge.
Gain new strength.
Gain new understanding.
Things have changed.
The past has passed.

(April 19, 1999 6:06 AM CDT)

"Blessed be the Lord,
for he has heard the sound of my pleading;
the Lord is my strength and my shield.
In him my heart trusts, and I find help;
then my heart exults,
and with my song
I give him thanks."
Psalms 28:6-7

Give praise to God today.
He is deserving of all our praise.
Plead with him.
Call on him for help.
Give your heart to him.
Lord, I need you.
You are my hope.
You are my song.
You fill my heart with joy.
We exult your name.
We thank you, Lord Jesus.
We praise you.
You are our protection.
Shield us, Lord.
You are holy.
Make us holy.

(April 18, 1999 7:03 AM CDT)

Today someone I work with (Arlis) arrives
in Paris .
So I was listening to the
French radio stations
yesterday.
The only problem is that I don't
know much French.
I only took one course in
conversational French.
So then I went to listen to the
London radio stations
.
Much better.
At least I understand them.

"May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of glory,
grant you a spirit of wisdom and insight
to know him clearly.
May he enlighten your innermost vision
that you may know the great hope
to which he has called you,
the wealth of his glorious heritage
to be distributed among
the members of the church,
and the immeasurable scope of his power
in us who believe."
Ephesians 1:17-19

Yes, see the vision.
To know God!
To know him.
To have tremendous hope.
To have confidence.
To have a sense of direction and purpose.
To be a member.
"U" "R" the chURch.
You are in the middle.
It is glorious.
It is immeasurable.
It is God.
Believe.

(April 17, 1999 8:06 AM CDT)

"In him you too were chosen;
when you heard the glad tidings
of salvation,
the word of truth,
and believed in it,
you were sealed with the Holy Spirit
who had been promised.
He is the pledge of our inheritance,
the first payment against the full redemption
of a people God has made his own,
to praise his glory."
Ephesians 1:13-14

This was one of the readings
last night at church.
We prayed for each of the children
to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
To be committed.
To be enlightened.
To see the vision.
To feel the power.
To be changed.
To be given a new name.
To walk with God.
To understand the Bible readings.
To believe in Jesus.
To be sealed.
Do you believe this?
They answered:
I do.
It will not be easy to keep
these commitments.
Pray for them.

(April 16, 1999 6:02 AM CDT)

Today is Confirmation Day for my niece Rachel.
Pray for her.
I'm the sponsor.

One of the two trees in my backyard
might be dead.
I don't see any buds.
All the other trees
show signs of life.
It's a huge maple tree.
I wonder if I will have to cut it down.
The storm of 1997 might have killed it finally.

"The next day when they were leaving Bethany
Jesus felt hungry.
Observing a fig tree some distance off,
covered with foliage,
he went over to see
if he could find anything on it.
When he reached it he found nothing
but leaves; it was not the time for figs.
Then addressing it he said,
'Never again shall anyone eat of your fruit!'
His disciples heard all this."
Mark 11:12-14

As you look at your life:
Are there any signs of life?
Is there any fruit?
Is there even any leaves?
Do you ever pray?
Do you ever think of God?
Do you say thanks to God?
Do you go to church?
Do you read the Bible?
Jesus is looking for signs of life.
He is checking you out.
He is looking at you.
What will he find?

(April 15, 1999 5:58 AM CDT)

Now there is a flood watch this morning.
It has been raining for at least 24 hours.
The wind was roaring all night.
It is springtime here in Omaha.
I did get a little sleep.
I think I am better today.
Anyway I'm going to work.
Thanks for the prayers.

Jesus said,
"Be sure of this:
if the owner of the house knew
when the thief was coming
he would keep a watchful eye and
not allow his house to be broken into.
You must be prepared in the same way.
The Son of Man is coming
at the time you least expect."
Matthew 24:43-44

Are you ready?
Are you prepared?
Be ready.
Be watchful.
Your faith can be stolen away.
Don't let it happen.
Prepare a defense of prayer.
Lord, make me strong.
Make my faith increase.
Change me.
Make me see things clearly.
Do not let me be deceived.
Send your Holy Spirit to
give me light.
Thank you, Jesus,
for hearing my prayer.

(April 14, 1999 6:03 AM CDT)

I'm sick today.
There is too much tree pollen
in the air I breath.
I am allergic to it.

I got new license plates for my
car yesterday downtown at the
City-County building.
I can't say I like the colors.
The numbers/letters are red
and the background is blue and yellow.
Many people have been complaining
about the colors.
Every 3 years in Nebraska
they change the pattern.
Change is difficult.
Isn't it?

"How manifold are your works, O Lord!
In wisdom you have wrought them all ---
the earth is full of your creatures;
The sea also, great and wide,
in which are schools without number
of living things both small and great..."
Psalms 104:24-25

God's creation is wonderful.
Just look at all the different kinds
of animals on land and in the water.
The Learning Channel and
The Discovery Channel
are always
showing us new creatures that
the Lord has made.
The number of animals is very large.
Each is unique.
There is a designer.
There is a maker.
Do you see the beauty?
Give praise today
for Gods' creation.

(April 13, 1999 6:07 AM CDT)

"It was for liberty that Christ freed us.
So stand firm,
and do not take on yourselves
the yoke of slavery a second time!"
Galatians 5:1

What is freedom?
What is liberty?
Is it to do whatever you want?
Go wherever you want to go?
Anytime you want?
I submit to you that true freedom
is doing God's will.
You are here for a reason on this earth.
You are called by God.
There is a purpose for your life.
Follow the Lord Jesus.
He is your teacher.
Grow and grow in the knowledge of him.
Do what he wants.
What is captivity?
Sin.
Going the wrong way.
Fighting God.
Doing it "My Way" .
Is that your song?
I read the words of Frank Sinatra's
song and think:
How sad!

(April 12, 1999 6:07 AM CDT)

"Happy is he who has regard
for the lowly and the poor;
in the day of misfortune
the Lord will deliver him.
The Lord will keep and preserve him;
he will make him happy on the earth,
and not give him over
to the will of his enemies.
The Lord will help him on his sickbed,
he will take away
all his ailment when he is ill."
Psalms 41:1-4

Remember the poor.
Help them.
Be a light of hope.
Be a light in the darkness.
Be a light to see the way.
When sadness comes your way
let the Lord comfort you.
He will deliver you.
He will hold you.
The Lord will lift you up.
If you are sick,
ask the Lord Jesus to heal you.
I pray for the Lord to calm
even a little upset stomach.
He is a God of the big and the small.
Give him your cancer.
Lean on him.
Be healed.

(April 11, 1999 7:50 AM CDT)

Yesterday, I got out the lawn mower
for the first time this year.
It took about 5 pulls to get it started.
Just a reminder ---
be very careful around a lawn mower.
Keep kids far away.
Turn off the mower when adjusting anything.
Keep your feet a safe distance away.
Don't mow on a hill, if the grass is wet.
You could slip.
Why do I say this?
Because I know 2 people that have been injured.
Be careful.
You can learn from their mistakes.

Jesus said,
"Know that I am with you always,
until the end of the world!"
Matthew 28:20

Yes, there will be an end to the world.
Life on this earth has a time limit.
It does not go on and on.
It will stop.
There will be a last day.
But there is hope!
Jesus is with us.
He is here.
He is not far away.
He is very close to you.
Just call his name:
Jesus, come and deliver me.
Save me, Lord.
I'm listening to the
Hour of Decision
.
He (Billy Graham) is talking about hope.
Yes, there is hope!
In Omaha he is on radio
WOW 94.1 FM/590 AM

at 8:05 AM each Sunday morning.

(April 10, 1999 7:36 AM CDT)

"But the Lord stood by my side
and gave me strength,
so that through me the preaching task
might be completed and all the nations
might hear the gospel.
That is how I was saved
from the lion's jaws.
The Lord will continue to rescue me
from all attempts to do me harm
and will bring me safe to
his heavenly kingdom.
To him be glory forever and ever.
Amen."
2 Timothy 4:17-18

He is there by your side.
The Lord is there.
He is there to protect you.
Jesus will rescue you.
Be safe in the Lord.
The gospel will be heard.
The message will go on and on.
Proclaim Good News to the world.
Tell them about Jesus Christ.
He is God.
He is Savior.
He is Creator.
He is your best friend.
He died on the cross,
but rose from the dead on Easter.
Yes, it was a Sunday ---
the first day of the week.
Celebrate each Sunday.
Celebrate the resurrection.
Celebrate new life.

(April 9, 1999 6:12 AM CDT)

Did you see the rainbow last night
at about 6:50 PM?
It was cool.
The colors were very bright.
It was a complete arc from
horizon to horizon.

"Peace be with you.
The beloved here send you their greetings;
greet the beloved there, each by name."
3 John 1:15

Yes, may you find peace.
The peace that comes from God above.
May you be blessed.
He sends special Easter blessings to you.
Do you feel the blessings?
As I get older, I've noticed this at Easter time.
There are many blessings poured out.
Receive.
The Lord calls you by name.
He knows you.
You are special.
Greet your friends.
Pass the peace along.
Love as Jesus would.
Care.

(April 8, 1999 6:07 AM CDT)

Do you hear the thunder this morning?
Can you feel it?
Rain again...

"Sing joyfully to the Lord,
all you lands,
serve the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful song.
Know that the Lord is God;
he made us, his we are;
his people, the flock he tends.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
his courts with praise;
Give thanks to him;
bless his name, for he is good:
the Lord, whose kindness endures forever,
and his faithfulness, to all generations."
Psalms 100:1-5

You are his.
Be glad.
Sing a song of joy.
Today is a new day.
The Lord is faithful.
He helped people thousands of years ago ---
he will help you.
Open the gate.
Come in.
You have to do something.
You can't just stand there.
Choose to live.
Choose life.
New life is yours every day.
Smile, Jesus loves you.
Give him praise today.

(April 7, 1999 6:08 AM CDT)

Jesus said,
"Wait, rather, for the fulfillment
of my Father's promise,
of which you have heard me speak.
John baptized with water,
but within a few days you will
be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
Acts 1:4-5

It is a promise.
It is promised to you.
Just ask for the gift.
Ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit.
It is yours.
Your life will be changed.
You will receive new life.
Your mind will be enlightened.
You will be drawn closer to God.
The Lord is kind.
He is generous.
He wishes to bless you.
Receive wisdom and knowledge.
The Holy Spirit will help you
when you read the Bible.
Receive understanding.
The Holy Spirit will prompt you
to do good and avoid evil.
Just ask.

(April 6, 1999 6:06 AM CDT)

"Whoever falls into sin
on one point of the law,
even though he keeps the entire remainder,
has become guilty on all counts."
James 2:10

None of us is perfect.
I hear people say:
I'm a good person.
I don't kill anybody
or steal anything.
I'm not like "them".
The thing is, if you commit
just one sin, you are guilty of all.
So today, ask for forgiveness.
Pray for God's mercy.
He gives it freely.
Pray for strength to do what is right.
God will give you the grace.
Be forgiven.
Just ask.

(April 5, 1999 6:07 AM CDT)

It's raining here in Omaha this morning.
It's those April showers.

"This gate is the Lord's;
the just shall enter it.
I will give thanks to you,
for you have answered me
and have been my savior.
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
By the Lord has this been done;
it is wonderful in our eyes.
This is the day the Lord has made;
let us be glad and rejoice in it."
Psalms 118:20-24

Open the gate.
Enter in.
The Lord invites you.
Be glad.
Rejoice.
Jesus is the builder.
He gives you new life.
He gives you new hope.
Build upon him.
Set your sights on high.
See the clouds.
Have wonder in your eyes.
Today is the day.
Start something new.
See what the Lord has for you.
Open the gate.

(April 4, 1999 7:09 AM CDT)

Happy Easter!
I pray that you receive many blessings today.

"Early in the morning on the first day
of the week, while it was still dark,
Mary Magdaline came to the tomb.
She saw that the stone had been moved away,
so she ran off to Simon Peter and the other
disciple (the one Jesus loved) and told them,
'The Lord has been taken from the tomb!
We don't know where they have put him!'
At that, Peter and the other disciple
started out on their way toward the tomb.
They were running side by side,
but the other disciple outran Peter
and reached the tomb first.
He did not enter but bent down to peer in,
and saw the wrappings lying on the ground.
Presently, Simon Peter came along behind him
and entered the tomb. He observed the wrappings
on the ground and saw the piece of cloth
which had covered the head not lying with
the wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself.
Then the disciple who had arrived first
at the tomb went in.
He saw and believed."
John 20:1-8

You can see with your own eyes.
He is not there.
Where is he?
What has happened?
Mary, Peter and John saw the empty tomb.
All of them were witnesses,
but John saw and believed.
It takes faith to "see" the truth.
I pray that you receive this faith today.
I pray that you will see today.
I pray that your eyes will be opened.
The truth is there.
Jesus arose from the dead.
Yes, he was dead
and came back to life ---
a miracle of miracles!
May you come back to life.
May you find new hope in the darkness.
May you see the glory of God.
See the miracle today.

(April 3, 1999 8:00 AM CST)

Last night we had lighting and thunder
in the evening.
In downtown Omaha they imploded a building
at 17th and Dodge Streets.
You can see the video of it.

"In the place where Jesus had been crucified
there was a garden, and in the garden
a new tomb in which no one
had ever been buried.
Because of the Jewish Preparation Day
they buried Jesus there,
for the tomb was close at hand."
John 19:41-42

Some people leave Jesus in the tomb.
He is at rest there.
He does not bother them there.
He is buried.
He is forgotten.
They can go on with their life.
Today is a quiet day.
It is a time to reflect on
who is Jesus.
Does he mean anything to you?
Has he changed you in any way?

(April 2, 1999 6:10 AM CST)

"I will call upon God,
and the Lord will save me."
Psalms 55:17

It is Good Friday.
Call on the name of the Lord.
Jesus will come to save you.
Set aside at least 5 minutes today
to say thanks for all that
he has done for you.
Thank you, Jesus.
Forgive my sins.
Change me, Lord.
Make me a new creation.
Make my heart sing again.
Amen.

(April 1, 1999 6:10 AM CST)

"Pilate said to the Jews,
'Look at your king!'
At this they shouted,
'Away with him!
Away with him!
Crucify him!'
'What!' Pilate exclaimed.
'Shall I crucify your king?'
The chief priests replied,
'We have no king but Caesar.'
In the end, Pilate handed Jesus over
to be crucified."
John 19:14-16

Pray for your leaders.
Pray that they do the right thing.
Jesus was innocent.
Pilate knew he was innocent.
He sent him to his death.
Pray for justice.
Pray for judges and juries.
Pray for the police.
May the innocent be set free.
May the guilty be... (you complete the sentence)
And yet...
We are guilty.
We have done wrong.
We deserve punishment.
Jesus took our place.
He suffered for us.
He endured our punishment.
Thank you, Jesus.
Thanks for all that you have done for us.
Give thanks to the Lord today
for all that he has done.
