March, 2001

Make heaven your goal
Be prepared for eternity

Jesus is the way

One day at a time

See the face of God

Father, Son and Spirit

(March 31, 2001 6:35 AM CST)

Yesterday afternoon Karen faxed me a
proof copy of April 8th, 2001 .
It needs some work, but it is very close.
See how many mistakes you can find if any.
I found 4 things to correct just now in a quick reading.
The Post Office Box number 211 is different,
since the downtown Post Office moved to 16th and Farnam
they assigned us a new number.

I just made an update to March 22, 2001 below.
I did some research on 1988 and corrected it.

Thomas said,
"I will never believe it
without probing the nail prints in his hands,
without putting my finger in the nail marks
and my hand into his side."
John 20:25

Is that you?
Do you need proof?
You want to examine the evidence with your own hands.
Yes, Jesus died.
There were nail marks.
Many witnesses saw him die.
Thomas would not believe he was alive again.
It was impossible.
Jesus was dead.
You die and that is the end.
Then Thomas experienced a change of heart.
God showed him something new.
Death is not the end anymore.
Jesus overcame death.
He was alive.
He even ate some food with them.
It was he alive again.
Thomas saw the risen Jesus and believed.
Do you believe in Jesus?
Is he alive for you?

(March 30, 2001 6:05 AM CST)

We got moved yesterday to the 19th Street building.
All 5 of my boxes arrived.
I got my PC working at 2:30 PM.
There was a problem with the IP Address inside the company.
I put up the KGBI 2001 calendar
with a paper clip and scotch tape and it fell down,
so I moved it another panel to secure it with a straight pin.
I put it right next to Roy .
I told people yesterday that I felt "disoriented."
It is classical cultural shock.
For example I like to walk the steps once an hour.
I usually go up 5 floors and back down.
We are too high in this office building.
Now I have to go down 5 floors and then back up.
It is close, but not the same.
It is very interesting to actually meet
some of the people whose names
I have seen on emails over the years.
It is something to have a little conversation with them.
The 2 guys I went to Denver with for the Web Logic Server class
the week of February 26th
are on the west side of the floor.
I said "Hi" to them.
There are no restrooms on our floor,
so you have to go up or down a floor to find one.
I did see some daffodils in a vase. Cool!
The north wall of the break room has all this writing on it.
I've never seen that before in a work environment.
My first impression was "someone should paint that wall."
How can that be allowed?
Upon closer inspection I saw "Good Bye" messages
from people who retired over the years.
One message was dated 1993.
I will have to take some time to read the messages.
Maybe it's like that Veterans Wall in Washington, D.C..
It is all interesting to me.
It is definitely something to explore.
I wonder if I will get any work done.
There is just so much to explore.

Jesus said,
"If a man (or woman) loves me,
he (or she) will keep my word,
and my Father will love him (or her),
and we will come to him (or her)
and make our home with him (or her)."
John 14:23

Maybe you feel disoriented today.
You have just moved to a new house/apartment/dorm or job.
You feel lost.
You can't find anything.
Jesus is your anchor.
He is your stability.
Get out your Bible.
Read those words.
Read those words that have been around a few thousand years.
Orient yourself with God.
Then you will feel "at home" again.
He will comfort you and give you peace.
(7:04 AM Time to go explore (I mean work).)

(March 29, 2001 6:06 AM CST)

This is what I turned in to Karen and Dave yesterday.
"To Be A Success in 2001"
This will be in the newspaper on Palm Sunday, April 8th, 2001.

Today is moving day for me and 7 other people at work.
We are moving from 13th street to 19th street on Douglas.

(March 28, 2001 5:57 AM CST)

I need to write up something for April 8th.
I talked to Karen and Dave of the World-Herald yesterday,
so I need to work on that.

(March 27, 2001 5:59 AM CST)

I just bought the morning newspaper.
I'm looking for an 8-page Christian Family insert.
I was told it would go to 115,000 homes in Omaha.
The insert is not in the paper I bought.
Hopefully it will be in the paper delivered
to my house later this afternoon.
If it shows up later, I will let you know this evening.

I talked to Steve last night.
He thanked me for the muffins on February 23rd.
He gave me a gift as I was leaving,
but I'm going to give it to you.
It is 20 minutes of free long distance.
Dial 1-800-351-4155, enter pin 438-468-8309,
then place your call.
I just checked it. It is working.
Enjoy.

Three people sent me emails this morning,
So would you pray for their intentions?
Thanks.
God knows exactly what they all need.

I need to call Karen at the Omaha World-Herald
to set up an advertisement for Sunday, April 8th.
It will be a reprint of "The Bridge is Out" .
Yes, the bridge is STILL out!
On Easter Sunday, April 15th I will have something brand new.
It is titled "The California Adventure" at the moment
and subject to change instantly.
I started to write it yesterday, since I had a day of silence.

"He knew their thoughts..."
Luke 6:8

Jesus knew the thoughts of the people around him.
He knew if they were sincere or not.
He could see their hearts.
Were they open to his message or not?
Were they plotting to kill him?
I ask you today to trust Jesus.
I am praying for you.
He knows what you want without even asking him.
He knows your needs.
You may not even know what you need, but he knows.
Open your thoughts to him.
Surrender your heart to God.
Trust Jesus.
Invite him to be part of your thoughts today.

(March 26, 2001 6:11 AM CST)

Spring To Life today will observe a day of silence in honor of

Josephine G. Teschke
Born- May 29, 1911
Died- March 22, 2001

(March 25, 2001 5:53 AM CST)

Yesterday I was reading the newspaper in my car
at 12:30 PM near 24th and California St. in Omaha
in Creighton University's visitor parking lot.
And who's name do I find in the newspaper.
Josephine.
My friend Josephine had died.
My fingers just keep tapping the keyboard right now.
I don't know what to say.
I imagine it will "hit me" soon.
The visitation is today at 1 PM and
the funeral is tomorrow at 11:15 AM.
Pray for her brother Alex that I met a few months ago
and all her family.
She was 89 years old/young.
Two months ago she thought she was 88 and
I was nice/polite enough not to correct her.
I don't want to think about it.

Then about 2 hours after that I find out from my sister that
my niece in Nevada is expecting a baby in November.
I just sent her an email congratulations.
Life goes on.
One life ends...one life begins.

Now it's time to go for a boat ride on the Pacific Ocean.
These pictures were taken a week ago on March 18th
around 2 PM PST at Dana Point, California.
Captain Dave got a new boat .
That is Captain Dave near the front of the boat.
I had to help bring the boat in.
I grabbed the rope and pulled it in and tied it down.
The current kept pulling it away from the dock.
There were 6 passengers for this large boat.
I even helped steer it from time to time.
You slide this bar side to side as you face forward.
The steering is opposite to what you are used to.
Slide the bar left to go right, and right to go left.
It was not easy for me to keep the boat on course.
Captain Dave also wanted me to stay
very far away from any other boat.
Next is the Dana Point marina as we head out to sea.
It was windy and sunny.
You needed a wind breaker jacket and sunscreen.
Here is the line of traffic into the marina
behind the break wall.
Finally out on the ocean here is a sailboat .
Can you spot the dolphin just off to one side of our boat?
We were surrounded by dolphin at times.
You could sit right on the front of the boat
and almost reach out and touch them.
They led us through the water just below the surface.
Here is a dolphin trying to splash me .
But they did not get me.
How about another sailboat in the wind ?
And then another splash of a dolphin .
This picture makes me seasick.
To truly capture the dolphins in action
you needed a video camera.
Then you could track them under the water.
A still camera is too slow to catch them.
Here is looking back to land and the buoy with sea lions .
MCB likes to kayak these waters close to shore.
She was trying to talk me into doing it next time I visit.
I will have to think about it.
Let me get back to you on that.
That would really be a California adventure.
As we were coming in a big wave attacked,
and this lady from L.A. and her boyfriend from Texas
(originally Germany) got totally soaked.
I know exactly how they feel after the water ride
at the California Adventure the day before that.
It took 3 hours for the left side of my jeans to dry out.
So beware if you ride on the front of this boat.
You have been warned.

"A time to be born,
and a time to die."
Ecclesiastes 3:2

Sorry...
I don't know what to say.

(March 24, 2001 6:35 AM CST)

Do you set your goals for the day each morning?
Do you?
It helps me at work.
It keeps me focused on things.
I refer back to my list and check things off.
It gives you a sense of accomplishment.
One of my goals yesterday was "Q Stock up".
It went up, so I'm 9 out of 10 now on the Stock Market.
I am easily beating every index for 2001.
What can you say? It's one of them blessings!

Now for a walk on the beach .
I took all these pictures around 12 Noon on March 16th
in Santa Monica, California.
Be sure to take off your shoes and socks before attempting this.
I learned the hard way.
This is the beach looking north .
I look at this picture and wonder why I came back to Nebraska.
I'm not too smart.
I asked some people when high tide was
and they said 3 PM maybe.
They did not know what they were talking about.
Low and high tides make a big difference
when you walk along the ocean.
Next is the park along Ocean Avenue .
It is above the beach a few hundred feet.
Next is the infamous Santa Monica Pier .
It is big.
Can you believe the rides on the pier ?.
Next is the $5 parking lot .
Dead center in this picture is my red/orange rental car.
God knew that I would get lost and make a lot of sudden turns,
so he gave me this bright car to warn others.
It was a 2001 Monte Carlo with 1600 miles on it.
It was a nice car for a day.
Next is the plaza south of the pier .
Definitely has the "California look" to it.
Last is just a steering wheel shot of Santa Monica Blvd .
Just look how tall those palm trees are.
In conclusion...
I guess I will retire in Santa Monica now
and forget about that Newport Beach.
And I don't care if they have electricity or not.
(Santa Monica lost power on March 19th
after I had left for home our newspaper said.)
It is a beautiful place to visit and I would live there.
Get an apartment/condo right along Ocean Avenue.
What more could you ask for?

"Just after daybreak Jesus was standing on the shore,
though none of the disciples knew it was Jesus."
John 21:4

Jesus spent time near water.
He walked the shore.
He felt the water and sand on his feet.
He was there for his friends
and they did not know it was him.
Jesus is here.
You don't know it.
You don't recognize him.
He is here for you in 2001.
He is right here.
What are you worried about?
Walk that beach with confidence.
Don't let those waves bother you.
Jesus is here for you.

(March 23, 2001 5:47 AM CST)

Here is a picture of the
entrance to Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim, California.
This was taken on March 17th.
You buy a ticket ($43) and you can go either way
to Disneyland or The California Adventure.
You stay in that one park all day.

Here is where I stayed in Costa Mesa, California .
This is just off the 405 at Harbor Blvd.
I listened to the traffic all night.

This is a picture of Malibu, California .
(This is my favorite picture of all that I took.
I will print an 8 by 10 of it.)
The pier is being repaired and
will reopen in maybe a year.
The location is called Malibu Lagoon.
This was taken on March 16th from
the 2nd floor of the historic Adamson House.
I took a tour of the house.
Beverly was our tour guide.

This is a picture in Palos Verdes Estates, California .
How would you like to be building that house
right along the Pacific Ocean?
That is not fair.
How can they do that?
This was March 16th about a hour before sunset.

Jesus said,
"Blest are they who hunger and thirst for holiness;
they shall have their fill."
Matthew 5:6

Do you seek holiness?
Are you hungry for it?
Is there a thirst in your soul?
The Lord says to come closer to him.
Focus on him.
Do the will of God.
Then you will be blessed.
You will be filled with joy.
Be holy.

(March 22, 2001 6:01 AM CST)

Yes, I made it to the concert yesterday and
I ran into my sister-in-law.
It was her birthday.
(I realized this after the concert.)
Happy Birthday minus one day!
The singers were on level 2 of the food court
at the south end.
It was something to hear Christian music in public.
There were songs about the mercy of God.
I wonder what the people who worked in the stores
on level 1 thought.

Karen from the World-Herald called yesterday.
I need to get something written up and into her soon.
Say a pray for me to write
what God wants to say here in 2001.
Thanks.

Here are some pictures taken at Newport Beach, California
on Sunday, March 18th, 2001.
This is the church we attended .
This is another angle of the church with a 1998 Avalon .
It is the gray car.
The woman in the car was smiling and
probably wondering why I was taking her picture.
Just some tourists---that's all.
They had all the doors to the church open.
It was the 10 AM service and about 65F degrees.
The church was pretty much full.
It is an area of town called Eastbluff just off Jamboree Road.
The sermon was about bees and bee keeping.
My throat was hurting a little,
so I asked MCB (My California Buddy) to pray for me.
And I wondered if I could move to Newport Beach someday
and retire there.
It is a nice place and I could go to church there.
I wonder about lots of things.
Both of us were thinking about MCB's Mom
who died about 15 years ago.
Doris and I went to visit Maureen in the hospital once.
I can remember going to their house in Omaha on 58th Street
before she died for a "going away party."
MCB's Dad thanked me for coming when I left.
I can't remember the wake or funeral.
I must not have went.
I'm sorry. I should have been there.
(Update on 3/31/2001: I was at the funeral with Doris on
Saturday, July 2, 1988. It's hard to remember 13 years ago,
but I found it on my calendar for 1988.
The "Open House" party was Saturday, May 28, 1988, 2 PM to 7 PM.
Maureen was at Immanuel Hospital that day.)

"The eyes of the Lord are upon those who fear him,
upon those who hope for his kindness,
To deliver them from death
and preserve them in spite of famine."
Psalms 33:18-19

I believe Maureen is in heaven.
I pray that one day I will be there also.
I pray that one day you will be there and I will meet you.
Only Jesus can deliver you from death.
The cancer took Maureen's life,
but the Lord preserved her soul.
She will live forever with the Lord
in total peace and joy.
"Fear him" means a great respect for the Lord.
Honor him.
Praise him.
Be with him forever.

(March 21, 2001 6:06 AM CST)

There is a free concert today at the Crossroads Mall
72nd and Dodge in Omaha at 12 Noon.
I will be there with my camera.
Come and have some fun.
I saw the Crossroads from the airplane on March 19th
as we arrived in Omaha from Dallas/Ft Worth.
We were flying south to north across Omaha along 90th Street.
I had window seat 20F.
I originally had seat 20D, but the couple sitting there moved
to seats 19A and 19B.
The plane had many empty seats to move around.

Welcome to Spring, 2001!
Are you ready?

Me?
I'm sick.
I have a cough, sore throat, headache and runny nose.
Say a pray for me.
I'm going to work, since we don't get "sick days" anymore.
They took that benefit away from us.
You use a vacation day, if you are sick.

Amanda gave me a haircut last night at the Westroads.
It was free.
God bless her.
I told her about Disney's California Adventure.
It gets two thumbs up from my California friend and me.
We were there on St. Patrick's Day March 17th for 13 hours.
I get back 5 rolls of film today,
so I will show you some pictures in the next few days.

I wrote this on March 17th in my notebook page 12
in Costa Mesa, California:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He shall direct your paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6

There is a path that leads to life.
Find that path.
Stay on that path.
You will know in your heart it is right.
Follow Jesus.
Acknowledge him.
He knows the way.

(March 20, 2001 5:56 AM CST)

I keep asking myself:
"What time is it in California?"

I made it back yesterday around 6 PM.
I went right to the Westroads for a walk.
After 35 minutes I ran into a friend and her sister.
I said: "Hey, I know you."
She is one of the names on a piece of paper
on my kitchen table.
I added her sister's name on the paper.
I have not seen her since a funeral on July 21, 1999.
The 3 of us walked together for about 15 minutes
on level 1 then I went home.
That was a nice surprise "Welcome home."

Here is a souvenir from Santa Monica .
I misread the No Parking sign apparently.
I had a rental car for one day March 16th.

I will write more later.
Thanks sincerely for all the prayers!
I needed them several times like...
when I got lost west of L. A. on March 16th after sunset
at Livingston Dr. and Second St. north of Long Beach.
I was circling the neighborhood in the dark
trying to find my way down to Newport Beach.
I was starting to panic then I found my way again on the map.

(March 15, 2001 6:05 AM CST)

S2L will be on hold until March 20th.
Pray that I have a safe trip and
for all the people I meet.
Thanks! God bless you.
Currently it's 56F degrees in Santa Monica, California .

Last evening at the Westroads I found a ball.
It was about an inch in diameter.
It was half clear and half light pink.
It definitely had an energized bounce to it.
I bounced it a few times and then concluded it was
not meant for me but for some kid.
So I found a random Mom and son and said,
"Pardon me, but I found this. Would you like it?"
And I demonstrated it with a super bounce
and gave it to the boy.
He said, "Thank you."
And I continued my walk.
An interesting moment.
They were total strangers.
A God moment.

At small group last night we read this:
Daily Reflection for March 18th, 2001
provided by Larry Gillick at Creighton University.
We had 8 people last night.
It's a good group.
It's a blessing for me.
At the end we went over our prayer requests
and I said to pray for all "Dan's intentions."
It is just too long of a list of people.
So join with me in praying for the intentions
of these 8 wonderful people.

"The Lord accepted the prayer/intercession of Job."
Job 42:9

Pray.
Pray with your heart.
Pray for others.
Our loving Father will hear you.
He will bless those you pray for.
He will bless you.
Prayer changes things.
Prayer changes you.
Pray your heart out.

(March 14, 2001 6:08 AM CST)

I already packed my socks for my trip tomorrow.

Pray for my brother.
He has a bad cold.
Thanks.
We went to dinner last night at the China Buffet
at 120th and Dodge.
It is one of my favorite places to eat.
I noticed right off that it was crowded.
As we were leaving I saw the sign that said
kids eat free on Tuesdays.
That's why there were so many people there.
I drove my 4 year-old car,
so my brother could check it out.
He joked about riding in the back seat
because it has air bags.
I can't say that I like air bags either.
This is the first car I have had with air bags.
I don't know if I will ever wash it.
Maybe the neighbors won't notice it then.
I just don't feel comfortable driving it.
It's not "me."
I still think about getting a 1998 Toyota Avalon XLS.
I see the want ads in the newspaper for them still.

They asked Jesus:
"Who is of greatest importance in the kingdom of God?"
Matthew 18:1

It is the children.
They are the important ones.
It is not people like me driving fancy cars around
and going on trips far from home.
Jesus says you must be like little children.
They have little/no money or power.
They live one day at a time.
They have fun and share.
They instantly forgive.
Check it out.
Be a child.
It's time to live the simple life.

(March 13, 2001 5:54 AM CST)

Yesterday I turned in my old license plates
at the City/County Building 18th and Farnam.
I go there about once a week it seems.
They are getting to know me.
I got a refund of $6.07. What a joke!
They paid it in cash.
There is something about that place that instantly depressed me.
I come away from there with such a bad feeling.
I wonder if it has to do with evil spirits or something like that.

Jesus said,
"If it is by the Spirit of God
that I expel demons,
then the reign of God has overtaken you."
Matthew 12:28

They do exist.
There are evil people.
There are evil spirits.
God is way more powerful than they are.
You have nothing to fear.
You just say, "In the name of Jesus be gone."
Fear not.
God is with you.

(March 12, 2001 5:56 AM CST)

After church yesterday I was talking to Toni.
She asked me to pray for her grandson Jamarr.
He just turned 14 on Friday, March 9th.
He is in some kind of trouble.
So remember both of them in your prayers.
Thanks.

I watched this 1.5 hour videotape last night.
It is a recording of the 11 AM service at
Westside Church a month ago on February 11th.
At 37 minutes into the tape Jessie is singing:
"In the calm of your presence, I am listening Lord."
It is just her and a piano.
It is a very nice song.
I just searched the Internet and can't find it.
Maybe it is an original composition.
At minute 29, 33, 35 and 58 you can see me!
I was sitting in the 3rd row just right of center.
Pastor Tony's sermon was about 50 minutes long.
I thought it lasted a while.

"For just as from the heavens
the rain and snow come down
and do not return there
until they have watered the earth,
making it fertile and fruitful,
giving seed to him who sows
and bread to him who eats,
so shall my word be
that goes forth from my mouth;
it shall not return to me void,
but shall do my will,
achieving the end for which I sent it."
Isaiah 55:10-11

If you read the Bible, your life will be changed.
If you pray, God will move in your life.
If you sing songs of praise, you will be blessed.
Yesterday afternoon in the Omaha area
we had rain, snow and ice.
I had to stop my car from time to time
to get out and knock the ice off the wipers.
The temperature was a few degrees below freezing.
The moisture is falling.
The ground needs it after last year's drought.
This is an answer to our prayers from last year.
Sometimes it takes a year to get a prayer request granted.
Be patient.
God is there.
He will accomplish his purpose, if you let him.
He will feed you.
He will refresh you.
Let it rain.
Let is snow.
Trust in the Lord to do wonderful amazing things in his time.

(March 11, 2001 5:52 AM CST)

Yesterday I sold my 1991 Camry.
It is gone.
I just went downstairs in the garage to see
all the extra room I now have again. Cool.
My car insurance will go down $40 per month I think.
It had 109,976 miles on it.
I sold it for $1 per day for 10 years interest-free to Roger.
I drove the car to Roger's house around 2:30 PM
and he drove me back home about an hour later
coughing all the way.
Pray he gets over this cough.
He sings in the choir on Sundays.
He needs his voice.
It seems like almost everyone I know is/was sick recently.
It has been a tough winter here in Nebraska.

When I cleaned out the car yesterday I found
"Life's Little Instruction Book."
#346 says:
"Be bold and courageous.
When you look back on your life,
you'll regret the things you didn't do
more than the ones you did."
There are lots of wonderful inspirational thoughts in the book.

I scanned in some pictures this morning of Englewood/Denver, Colorado.
This was taken February 27th of where we stayed .
This is a steering wheel shot as it snows
on the way to school the same morning.
The "school building" is the one on the right.
The class was about
Web Logic Server .
This next picture was taken on March 1st or 2nd.
It is the school building again with our white rental car dead center.
The snow melts fast in Denver as you can see.
It is a very dry climate.
My skin was drying out.
It probably got up to 50F degrees that day.
I climbed the steps in this building about once per hour.
Because of the altitude (1 mile, 5,280 feet)
the air is thinner in Denver.
Yes, I did notice it, as I climbed the steps.
I was short of breath.
It is 7 stories tall.
Our classroom was on the first floor.
This is located in an area of Denver
called the Denver Tech Center.
I rented the car and drove the car the whole time.
We were there 5 days Monday through Friday.
I studied the map of Denver that I have had for years
and somehow got us to class, dinner and the airport.
We even went to church on Ash Wednesday after school at 5:30 PM.
That took some research to accomplish,
since we were from out of town.
The first few days of class I asked the receptionist,
"Where were the flowers?"
They needed a bouquet of flowers for the entrance.
The building inside is very fancy.
They spent a fortune on this place.
It needed flowers I tell you.
My request for flowers was ignored,
so Friday I went to that K-mart again
and bought a vase and some assorted fresh flowers.
I dropped them off at school ahead of time.
It was just what was needed.
I think Lori would agree. You can ask her.
Next time I am in Denver
I will have to "check up on them" with a surprise visit.
Did I introduce/accomplish a change in their culture?
I don't know.

"Great is the Lord
and wholly to be praised
in the city of our God.
His holy mountain,
fairest of heights,
is the joy of all the earth."
Psalms 48:2-3

It is not easy to climb the steps.
God invites you to visit him.
Come away for a time.
Spend time with him.
He will refresh you.
There definitely will be a culture change.
You will be different.
You will see new colors.
You will experience new things.
Springtime is so close.
Make this a year that you will never forget.
Find new life in Jesus Christ.
He calls you to the heights!
If you do not take this step,
you will regret it for all eternity.
Have courage.
Be bold.

Yes, I talked to "Cousin" Lauri last night.
(She is not my cousin. It's just a nick name.)
I did not tell her ahead of time that I would be there.
She had the people that wanted dance lessons
to come out on the dance floor.
It took her about 5 minutes to realize who I was.
"Dan?"
And I say, "Cousin Dan to you."
"Cousin Dan, you're only half there."
She was saying I have lost weight since she last saw me.
Here is a dance lesson schedule
that they handed out if you live in the Omaha area.
Dance.
I tried.
The line dance (Watermelon Crawl) was brand-new to me,
so I was not keeping up,
but the Triple Two Step I could handle easy.
For the Triple Two Step Cousin Dan needed a partner.
Cousin Lauri asked for help from the audience
and Danielle volunteered.
That is an easy name for me to remember.
She was a good dancer.
You notice that I put a star by March 24th
for the Stationary Cha-Cha.
That is one of my favorites.
Dancing is good exercise.
It would help if you like country music,
but the important thing is to ---
dance.

The birthday yesterday?
There were 4 cakes.
Joe had a great day.
He was center of attention for a few hours.
It changes the dynamics of the work environment.
It makes it a fun place for a little while.
It brings people out of their cubes to interact.
I talked to people I have not talked to in months.
A good time was had by all that I saw.
Mission accomplished.
You can do the same thing there in Dayton, Ohio.
Get out there.
Change your world.
Make it a better place.

I'll write more in a few hours.

(March 9, 2001 5:57 AM CST)

Happy Birthday Joe!
God bless you.
(I've worked with Joe off/on for about 10 years.)

Yesterday and the day before I "crashed."
And I expect that after I take a trip.
I've learned to watch for it over the years.
I get so "high" on the trip and then when I get back
to "normal" life it is such a let down for me.
And God sends me friends like at the grocery store last night
to help me through it.
That was a nice surprise.
So pray for me that I don't crash too hard. Thanks!

I made two cakes last night.
(That is why I was at the grocery store.)
The first cake is a given thing:
Devils's Food and Sour Cream White icing.
The second cake is an experimental cake:
Golden Vanilla and Sour Cream Chocolate icing.
I feel like a mad scientist --- ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, etc.
(said with a sinister laugh).
What do you mean: "Who are the cakes for?"
Go figure.

Tonight I'm going to see Cousin Lauri.
I think she teaches dance lessons at 7:30 PM
at Guitars and Cadillacs near 108th and Dodge.
(I could be wrong about this.)
I need to talk to her about Cousin Ron.

After the harsh message yesterday
we need to give equal time to the other side of the story.
God is a God of mercy.

"Jesus finally straighten up and said to her,
'Woman, where did they all disappear to?
Has no one condemned you?'
'No one, sir,' she answered.
Jesus said,
'Nor do I condemn you.
You may go.
But from now on, avoid this sin.'"
John 8:10-11

Here she was caught in the act of adultery.
(You wonder where was the man?)
She is brought to Jesus to be "judged."
(Read this whole event on the link above to set the scene.)
God hates sin, but he loves the sinner.
Jesus draws in the dirt.
He plays with the dirt.
Why?
He is new life.
He is the God of creation.
He takes our "dirt" and creates a new person from it.
He breathes new life into this lifeless dirt.
("God formed man of dust from the ground..."
Genesis 2:7 )
We are not perfect.
We all make mistakes.
We need God's forgiveness.
He is mercy.
Ask Jesus to forgive all your sins.
He tells us to "go" and continue our lives.
Rebuild our broken marriages.
Be faithful to our vows.
Only have C17 (s,e,x, as in NC-17 movie rating )
with your marriage partner.
(I use codes because of filters.
I don't want S2L to be blocked from viewing.)
Avoid sin.
Today I sincerely ask you
to receive the mercy of God.

(March 8, 2001 5:54 AM CST)

We studied this last night in our small group:

"I have often said this to you before;
this time I say it with tears.
Such as these will end in disaster!"
Philippians 3:18-19

If you have been following along lately,
I just returned from Las Vegas.
Some people call it "sin city."
The advertising on cabs for example
say that you can call a number and
get a women to personally show you all her skin.
That is evil.
You see that quite a bit ---
the women with little clothing.
I even hear Christians say that they attended a show
with these kind of women and say the show was great.
That is not right.
Here is a picture of Las Vegas
taken from southeast of town on March 3rd.
To me --- it is like some scene from Biblical times.
The Spring Mountains (I think) are in the background.
You can see all the buildings along Las Vegas Blvd. ---
the monuments to man.
I wonder if God would destroy it all.
I wonder if God would send a disaster to wipe it out.
Then again, there are good people in the town.
Maybe he would not destroy the town
because of the good people there.
Evil is evil.
It will not go unpunished.
I know this sounds harsh, but that is the way it is.

(March 7, 2001 5:42 AM CST)

Pray for Maureen and her family.
Her Dad died last week.
Maureen was a neighbor from my parent's neighborhood.
Over the years I understand
she has followed the S2L writings in the newspaper.

Pray for Mark that had heart surgery recently.
I talked to him and his wife Bonnie
last night at the Westroads Mall.
He was not feeling well.
I know them from tennis with Omaha Sports Club years ago.

The stock market is now 7 out of 8 after yesterday.
God is so good to me. He is.

Yesterday I wrote a thank you letter
to my neighbor on the south side.
She is great! She is.
She is a blessing.
God bless her.

I talked to Bud yesterday.
He asked when I am going to move to
his building on 19th and Douglas .
I don't want to move.
I'm in the 13th street building
and have a spot in the parking garage
which takes years to get.
There is a long waiting list.
But then again I think of this:

"We know that God makes all things work together
for the good of those who love God
and are called according to his decree."
Romans 8:28

If God wants me to move, I guess I will move.
I will miss my friends in the other building,
but they are not that far away.
I could come down and visit from time to time
or meet them for lunch somewhere.
I would get to see Bud and meet his "gang."
It is easier to stay where I am.
Change is difficult. It is.

Tonight our Lent small group starts at Susan's apartment.
I have never met Susan before.
This is part of the envelope
that she sent me yesterday.
I say, "People give themselves away."
She volunteered to help with this project.
She has opened up her place to strangers.
The handwriting/printing and the stamp with the L-word say something.
So far from what little I can see,
I think she is a very nice person.
I just love small groups. They are so neat/cool/fun.
Pray for Susan and all in our group.
Thanks!

(March 6, 2001 6:38 AM CST)

I went for my 50-minute walk last night at the Westroads Mall.
I weighed myself. And the answer is...
I gained only 5 pounds.
My suit pants are a little tighter I noticed yesterday morning.
On March 3rd I took my niece, husband and son
to dinner at The Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada.
We literally stuffed ourselves at the Grand Lux Cafe.
The food was great!
Correen/Correne/Korreen was our server.
After dinner since I was at the casino,
I made my one and only bet for the trip.
I showed my niece how my watch "worked" at the roulette table.
The watch picked number 5 and number 5-red it was.
I just bet on red.
She kept asking about how much it would have been,
if I had bet the 5 ($25 * 35 = $875).
What can you say?
Just ask my niece. She was there.
It surprised me.
The minimum bet at the table was $25,
so it paid for half our dinner.
Like I said before, it is like stealing.
They will soon ban me and my watch from casinos everywhere.

How am I doing in the stock market?
After yesterday only 6 of 8. I lost again.
What will happen today? I wonder.

6:53 AM Sorry time for work. Bye.

(March 5, 2001 5:37 AM CST)

(Update at 7:44 PM:
I got the 2 rolls of film developed today.
This picture was taken at 7:30 AM this morning
at 16th and Douglas in Omaha
of the tallest building in Nebraska .
I had one picture left on the roll of film
and this is what you get to see in the morning sun.
The next pictures were taken yesterday around 12 Noon
in Littleton, Colorado.
Here is Columbine High School on the East side .
Another view of the East side .
This is on the South side .
Another South side view .
)

Yesterday Cousin Ron and I were driving all over Denver.
I stopped in Denver for a few hours
on the way home from Nevada.
He picked me up at the airport.
He was listening to Christian radio station 91.1 FM.
The guy who had fixed his truck had set it to this station.
Ron was in a little "fender bender" with a short pole.
He took me way down to see Columbine High School
by way of I-70, 470 and Bowles Ave.
I took some pictures of it, so I will show them to you
later today or tomorrow when I get them developed.
Very few people (if any) I talked to in Denver have
seen the school in person.
Ron had never seen it.
He did not even know how to get to it.
I had to give him directions.
As we drove around town,
I saw streets I've never seen before.
As you can imagine, Denver is huge.
I had lunch with him and his friend Kathy/Kathie/Katherine,
then caught the Frontier flight back to Omaha.
They met at the Grisly Rose I think.
It is a country music dance place.
While I was at Ron's house,
who calls, but the infamous Cousin Sam.
Yes, Cousin Sam, who I have not seen since Friday, April 5, 1991.
Remember that ski trip to the Loveland Ski Area in Colorado
by the Eisenhower Tunnel?
I'll probably see Cousin Sam again on April 28th, 2001.
Cousin Ron is having a party then and
invited me to "come on out."
It should be fun.

This is funny.
You know I always forget something when I travel?
Well this time I discovered I had not packed any socks.
I looked and looked and did not find them.
How could I forget my socks?
I just could not believe it.
That next morning I had to make an emergency run to
the 24-hour K-mart east of I-25 and Arapahoe in Denver to buy socks.
It was so funny!
I'm still laughing.

This is what I wrote in my *3* subject notebook
Page 2 on 2-27-01 at 5:56 AM :

"Fear not, for I am with you: be not dismayed,
for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes,
I will help you. I will uphold you with My
victorious right hand."
Isaiah 41:10

God was there with me in Denver.
He is with you today wherever you are.
Don't fear.
Be encouraged.
God will strengthen you.
Maybe you have lost far more than some socks.
God is there.
Jesus is there.
I'm praying for you.
Speaking of praying, 3 people wrote email to me
while I was away asking for prayer.
They are/were sick, injured and recovering from surgery.
God be with them.
Thanks.

Time for work (6:52 AM).
It should be a very interesting day.

(March 4, 2001 8:18 PM CST)

I only had 891 email messages at work.
I checked it a few hours ago just for fun
when I got back to town.

The people on Frontier Airlines are the best.
Flight 434 from Denver to Omaha was perfect this afternoon.
Keep up the good work.
They are the nicest people!

On the other hand...
Champion Air and the Omaha World-Herald
need some help with their computer systems.

You know what?
I'm tired.
I'm going to get some sleep.
It's good to be home...I think...it is.
