God is our help
Change us, Lord

We love you, Lord Jesus

God loves us very much

There is only so much time

Be watching and alert

(October 31, 2004 6:05 AM CST)

We are right at the freezing point 32 F degrees
here in Omaha this morning.
The moon is too bright...
I can't readily spot Orion in the sky.
Then again...it is an hour later than usual
because of Daylight Savings Time ending.
Lake Tahoe , California is 22 F degrees this morning.
Honolulu, Hawaii is 75 F degrees.
Yesterday I was looking at pictures of both these places.
I made links above to two web sites
that had some interesting pictures.

"The Lord's are the earth and its fullness;
the world and those who dwell in it.
For he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers."
Psalms 24:1-2

You just look at how beautiful these places are above.
The Lord made them.
They give glory to him.
People go there to be refreshed and renewed.
The Lord is good.
He is great.
He is awesome.
He is something to behold.
He inspires us.
He transforms us.
Be renewed in body and spirit.

(October 30, 2004 6:22 AM CDT)

Look at this eerie picture
of the eclipse of the moon on October 27th
taken by Hans Sivenius of Jämsä, Finland.

This morning I got a good look at the downstairs shower.
The controls for the hot and cold water are reversed.
It has been that way for about 24 years.
It is one of those quirks about this house.
I rarely use the shower downstairs,
so I have never fixed them.
It didn't matter this time anyway,
since I can't see that well without my glasses on.

I was at that casino again across the river last night.
Some of my relatives wanted to go, but I didn't,
but I did anyway.
I'm not too smart.
It is interesting to note that I plan to vote NO
to all the things in Nebraska allowing gambling.
I used my new watch and won 5 bets in a row
at the roulette table.
I quit right there.
I beat all the odds (I think 1 out of 32),
so I quit while I was WAY ahead of the statistics.
I did not lose one bet.
That has never happened before to me.
I have to give that money away to some charity.

"I know your deeds;
I know you are neither hot nor cold.
How I wish you were one or the other ---
hot or cold!
But because you are lukewarm,
neither hot nor cold,
I will spew you out of my mouth!"
Revelation 3:15-16

You need to see clearly.
Are you for the Lord?
Is there any question?
Are you half there and half not there?
Be for the Lord.
Be 100 percent for the Lord.
Give it all your heart.
Give it all that you are.

(October 29, 2004 6:19 AM CDT)

Here are some pictures of Heartland of America Park
taken yesterday around lunchtime.
It was a nice day for a walk to the river and back.
They say the trees are very colorful this year
because of all the moisture we have received.

The bathroom is starting to look like a bathroom again.
The floor tiles are down and
the new vanity and medicine cabinet are installed.
It is getting closer.

I'm on vacation today.
I just can't take that 5 days of work in a week.

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord,
for that is what is expected of you.
'Honor your father and mother'
is the first commandment
to carry a promise with it ---
'that it may go well with you,
and that you may have long life on the earth.'"
Ephesians 6:1-3

If you are young and at home,
do what your parents ask of you.
You will be blessed.
They are trying to protect you.
They love you.
Tell them that you love them
and are thankful for everything
that they do for you.
It is not easy to be a parent in 2004.
Make it as easy as you can.
The Lord promised to bless you.

(October 28, 2004 5:50 AM CDT)

It's a rainy day here this morning in Omaha.
You can hear the rain beating on the roof.

I had to take a shower down in the basement this morning.
My bathroom upstairs is being worked on.
The window is gone.
It is.
It is very dark in there now without the lights on.
I worked from home yesterday afternoon
and heard all kinds of noises around the house.
Different sounds and the lights would dim
when some electrical thing kicked in.
There were many new sounds around the house.
It was not quiet at all.
I closed the door to the bedroom here
where I was working.

You probably noticed a gap here of three days.
You know what?
I am addicted to writing...I am.
It was very hard not to write something for that time.
I thought about what it was like before
there was an Internet.
I really would miss email!
Writing letters with snail mail is WAY too slow.
How did we survive without email?
There is so much happening in life every hour!
Then again you can call people on the phone.
That is pretty good.
Cell phones really help.
It gives you immediate contact with those you love...
if you can get a hold of them.
The interaction is dynamic and flowing
and you have tones of voice and
laughter that email can't match at all.
Definitely interesting things to think about.
Communications.
Interactions.

And Pam is gone.
That is so sad.
So pray for her and her family.
Wow...it is going to be really tough for them.
I was at the Westroads Mall for a walk
a day or two before she died.
She was there in Von Maur trying on shoes.
She shouted "Dan" from maybe 30 feet away.
I waved back and kept on walking.
Ten minutes later when I came back a second time
she had left already.
I should have stopped and chatted
for a few minutes with her.
I will have to remember that.
Last night when I was walking
I looked at that chair
where she was just a few days ago.
Gone...she is gone.
Well, that IS part of life,
I keep telling myself.
We don't like death or
to talk about death,
but it is there.
I'm trying not to think about any of this at all.
Maybe I should not even be writing about it...
but I'm addicted to writing.

This is from the Bible reading at church
from Sunday, October 24th.

Jesus told this story:
"Two people went up to the temple area to pray;
one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector.
The Pharisee took up his position and
spoke this prayer to himself,
'O God, I thank you that I am not like
the rest of humanity ---
greedy, dishonest, adulterous ---
or even like this tax collector.
I fast twice a week,
and I pay tithes on my whole income.'
But the tax collector stood off at a distance
and would not even raise his eyes to heaven,
but beat his breast and prayed,
'O God, be merciful to me a sinner.'
I tell you, the latter went home justified,
not the former;
for whoever exalts himself will be humbled,
and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."
Luke 18:10-14

In two of the sermons I heard on this
both people pointed out the words
of the Pharisee and that he prayed to himself.
He did not pray to God ---
he was just talking to himself.
God did not hear his prayer.
I have to ask myself and you do also,
I am praying to God or just talking to myself?
Am I looking up to God or
am I looking down on others?
Lord, have mercy on me.

(October 24, 2004 6:22 AM CDT)

This morning I'm trying to remember
what it was like
before there was the Internet.

(October 23, 2004 6:24 AM CDT)

On Thursday night I missed a meeting at church.
Wow...I am losing it.
It was right there on my calendar.
How could I miss it?

Today I'm praying for all the people at a retreat
near that church on 40th and Burt this weekend.
God bless all of them as they learn more about Jesus
and seek to know his will for their lives.
I'm also been praying since Thursday
for two other people who I have never met.
They might be married...I don't know.
They need the Lord in their lives.
Could you pray for all these people, also?
Thanks.

Would you believe I went to Burger King last night
and did not have my favorite Friday special
of TenderCrisp Chicken Sandwich and French fries
and drink (Coke or Root Beer)?
Instead I had a Chicken Caesar Salad and water.
What has happened to me?
That is it!

And I did not go for my hour walk at the Mall last night.
Now I am worried.
A side effect of skipping that is that I had a hard time
getting up this morning.
I wanted to stay there in bed and sleep.
Why is that?
What does exercise the night before
have to do with getting up the next day?
I have noticed this phenomenon before.
There is some connection between them.

Time for church (6:48am)...bye.

(October 22, 2004 6:15 AM CDT)

Here is a simulation of voting in Florida (over 1 MB).

This is something I keep on my kitchen table.
The words are so small
I can't read them without my glasses.
It talks about counting... .
How many flowers are on it?
Notice there should be 4 clips around it
to hold the glass in place
and there is one missing on the bottom.
This is the way it was
when I bought it long ago (fall 1998).
I did not even notice the missing clip for a long time.
I wrote about this on January 20, 2000 .
The NSYNC web site
mentioned on that date is pretty cool.
Chris Kirkpatrick's birthday was a few days ago.
He went to school in Dayton, Ohio of all places.

Jesus said,
"Enter through the narrow gate.
The gate that leads to damnation is wide,
the road is clear,
and many choose to travel it.
But how narrow is the gate that leads to life,
how rough the road,
and how few there are who find it!"
Matthew 7:13-14

I think it is a pretty common thought
that most people are going to end up in heaven.
Someone dies and you see a picture of them
depicted in the clouds of heaven above,
which might be true and might not.
It takes some effort to get to heaven.
First of all you need to make heaven your goal.
Is it?
Is it important to you?
Is it something you aim for?
It will not happen by accident.
Jesus says to look to him.
Focus on him.
Be nsync with him.
Avoid all the distractions (sin) of life.
Do what he asks of you.
Can you make it to heaven?
Yes...
but you have to call on Jesus for help.
You will not make it there by yourself.
You can count on him.
He will help you achieve this goal.

(October 21, 2004 6:11 AM CDT)

Yes, I listened to my 3 songs this morning at 4:33am.
The peace lily is much better this morning.
It does not look wilted anymore.
I did balance my checkbook last weekend.
Little by little I am still recovering
from my trip to California and party.
I got a new driver's license yesterday
near 108th and Maple.
They tell you to look at the smiley face
as they take your picture.
They capture your signature now
on a plastic electronic writing pad.
Always something new.
It cost $23.75.
This morning I'm trying to figure out some notes
on my Casio keyboard.
I think the notes are C# and D.
There is a wavering play between these two notes.
I am studying this "new sound"
I happened upon it about 3 months ago.
I think they are found in some old Beatles songs,
like "Love me do" or "From me to you" or "8 days a week."
The words "do" and "you" are part of this new sound.
I did see Doctor Barnard yesterday morning also.
He tightened up my retainer for my bottom teeth
and said to come back in 3 months on January 19th, 2005.
2005!
I love the huge picture windows in his office.
You can watch all the neighbors in his neighborhood
come and go near 147th and California Streets.
He tells me that trash day
is very interesting to watch.
I will take his word for that.
I just had to tie my tie again at 6:27am.
Would you believe it took me
4 tries to tie my tie this morning?
Maybe it is because it is a new tie
that I have never worn before.
I want to write more, but time to go 6:36am.
Bye.
God loves you!
Have a nice day!
I didn't even spelll checkk this...
(Note: I did fix some of the spellings on October 22.
There were a few.)

(October 20, 2004 6:20 AM CDT)

I could hardly get out of bed this morning.
I am slowing down.
Maybe it is the cold weather and shorter days.
The peace lily in my kitchen is wilting this morning.
I keep forgetting to open the blinds
to let the sunshine in.
I watered it and opened the blinds now.
The temperature during the day in my house is 65 F degrees,
maybe it does not like that.
I don't know.
I've never had a peace lily before this year.
I did not even listen to my 3 songs
this morning to start the day
on my Walkman tape player with headphones.
I usually listen to them before I get out of bed,
but not this morning.
The 3 songs are:

Redeemer by Nicole C. Mullen.
(Track 7 of this link.)

Joy by Cindy Morgan.
(Track 2 of this link.)

I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack.
(Track 2 of this link.)

It takes about 15 minutes to listen to them.

"Let the words of my mouth
and the thought of my heart
find favor before you,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer."
Psalms 19:15

Speak to the Lord.
Talk to him each morning.
Start your day with your redeemer.
Share your thoughts with him.
He will brighten your day.
He will lift you up.
He gives you the waters of life.
Talk to him.
One of my thoughts the last few days is...
One of the greatest gifts the Lord gives us is...
Joy.
Pure joy.
Joy in your heart.
Money can't buy it.
It comes straight from the Lord who loves us.
It is a tremendous gift.
It only comes from knowing the Lord.
Well, I have been thinking about that lately.
I pray that you receive this gift.

(October 19, 2004 6:21 AM CDT)

"My prayer is that
your sharing of the faith with others
may enable you to know all the good
which is ours in Christ."
Philemon 1:6

Share what you know.
Tell others about what you experience.
The Lord is wonderful.
He gives you joy in your heart.
He brings calm in the midst
of storms in your life.
May you know the goodness of the Lord.
May you grow in faith each day.
That is my prayer for you.

(October 18, 2004 6:06 AM CDT)

This morning I'm listening to another
Michael W. Smith CD Christmastime .
I just downloaded it from ITUNES and burned a CD.
Many moving/touching/teary songs...
Track 3 "Christmastime" has to be my favorite song.
You can hear 30 seconds of it on the link above.
Then again...I like Track 4 "Welcome to Our World"
but sung by someone else...Amy Grant.
It is Track 10 of "A Christmas to Remember" .
You can hear 30 seconds of it on this link above.

I just crashed my PC somehow listening to the CD
and my PC rebooted.

From page 1328 of my Bible:

"Now that we have been justified by faith,
we are at peace with God
through out Lord Jesus Christ.
Through him we have gained access by faith
to the grace in which we now stand,
and we boast of our hope for the glory of God."
Romans 5:1

Peace.
Peace on earth.
Peace in your heart and soul.
You don't have to wait for Christmas Day.
Give your heart to Jesus today.
Jesus, come into my heart today.
You are the hope of the world.
You are my hope.

(October 17, 2004 8:55 AM CDT)

This morning it feels like it should snow,
but it is not in the forecast.
It is cold outside (44F degrees).
The snow is not far away.

This morning I'm looking at the pictures
of the Matterhorn near Zermatt, Switzerland.
They have changed their web site
to have pictures over the course of the week.
Everyday the mountain looks different.
Saturday's picture is pretty cool.

I just highlighted these words in my Bible:

"Our preaching of the gospel
proved not a mere matter of words for you
but one of power;
it was carried on in the Holy Spirit
and out of complete conviction."
1 Thessalonians 1:5

You can look at the Bible and see words...
lots of words.
But is way more than the words you see.
They are words of life.
They are the words of God.
They have meaning.
They have depth and height.
They are words of power that change your life.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand these words
that are literally out of this world.
Highlight those words that have great meaning to you.

(October 16, 2004 10:00 AM CDT)

The last few days I have been reading the book
The South Beach Diet .
I am up to page 32, so far.
Three people that I know have tried this diet
and I wanted to see what it said.
Me?
I don't need to lose weight.
If anything, I need to gain weight.
I do need to change what I eat.
I am supposed to be on a high-fiber diet.
From what I see so far on this web site
I need to give up French fries which I dearly love.
This is going to be tough, but I need to eat right.
Page 73 of the book says that
the "Glycemic Index" for French fries is 107.
This apparently is too high.
I love the cover of the book (teal/bluegreen/aqua).
I bought my own copy through Amazon.com this morning
for $6.98 and shipping.
A friend let me see her copy of the book.

Last evening I "tested" my new watch at the casino
across the river from downtown Omaha.
Hey, I won $40 at the roulette table.
So this morning I wrote out a check
to Siena/Francis House for that amount.
Speaking of my checkbook...
I have not been able to balance my checkbook
since I left for California on September 2nd.
The numbers just don't add up.
I need help.
It makes me scared to take any future trips
because of all the chaos afterwards.
(Note: As I was writing the last few lines
I had a piece of cake and
two chocolate chip cookies and
a half glass of fat free skim milk.
That was about 600 calories.
The book can't possibly like any of those things.
I guess I need to schedule another hour walk
at the Mall today.)

The reading today at church was cool...

"I have never stopped thanking God for you
and recommending you in my prayers.
May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of glory,
grant you a spirit of wisdom and insight
to know him clearly.
May he enlighten your innermost vision
that you may know the great hope
to which he has called you,
the wealth of his glorious heritage
to be distributed among the members of the church,
and the immeasurable scope of his power
in us who believe."
Ephesians 1:16-19

I thank God for you.
We are brothers and sisters of the Lord Jesus.
I pray for each of you.
I hope you pray for me.
May the Lord continue to teach us and show us
new insights into his love and grace.
May we see the vision
of what God has in store for us
and the plans he has for our lives.

(October 15, 2004 6:06 AM CDT)

I saw a funny bumper sticker yesterday
as I drove to work down Dodge Street:
"What Would Scooby Do?"
I was laughing so hard
I almost lost control of the car...
well, you get the idea...

This morning?
I'm downloading a Christmas album
of Michael W. Smith titled, "Christmas" from ITUNES
and burning a CD of it.
He is having a Christmas Tour this year.
On my birthday he will be in Jacksonville, Florida
at the Veteran's Memorial Arena this link says.
He will be in Council Bluffs on December 2
at the Mid-America Center.
I checked the price of the tickets a few days ago and
they are about $50 each.
Yes, Christmastime is approaching fast...
that magical time of the year...
I also downloaded his song Healing Rain .
You can hear a sample of it on this link.

Jesus said,
"You have heard the commandment,
'You shall love your countryman,
but hate your enemy.'
My command to you is:
love your enemies,
pray for your persecutors.
This will prove that you are
sons of your heavenly Father,
for his sun rises on the bad and the good,
he rains on the just and the unjust.
If you love those who love you,
what merit is there in that?
Do not the tax collectors do as much?
And if you greet your brothers only,
what is so praiseworthy about that?
Do not pagans do as much?
In a word, you must be made perfect
as your heavenly Father is perfect."
Matthew 5:43-48

Love those who don't love you.
Is it easy?
No.
Is it possible?
Yes...
with God's help.
(What would Jesus do?)
Let the rain pour down on your life.
We need the healing
that only comes from heaven above.
Heal us, Lord Jesus.
Teach us how to love as you love.

(October 14, 2004 6:14 AM CDT)

Where I work yesterday I heard about someone
that had two deaths this week in their family.
A woman and her daughter passed away
within a day or two of each other.
Their family must be in shock,
so remember them in your prayers today.

I know it is hard to believe,
but I bought a new watch yesterday.
My old watch is working, but just barely.
I was walking at the Mall and
picked up an advertisement for watches
at P C Penney that someone had dropped.
So I talked to Leslie/Lesley and
she sold me a new watch.
It is very hard to let go of my old watch.
I have had it for at least 20 years.
There are many memories with the watch
like the time (3-3-2001) I was in Las Vegas
a few years ago
with my niece and her family.
(I wrote about it on March 6th, 2001 .)
I told her about my "lucky watch" and
demonstrated it at the roulette wheel.
I used the stop watch function to make a bet.
You start the stop watch function and
then I had her stop it.
You look at the last 2 digits.
It was 05, which is red on the roulette table.
I bet $25 on red and
the interesting thing is that 5 WAS the number.
My watch had picked the exact number.
The stop watch function does not work anymore
on my old watch, but...
it does work on my new watch.

It was back to the downtown library yesterday.
I got a new library card.
It fits on my key ring now.
I usually just show them my driver's license
to check out books and
I think I did it once too often,
so they issued me a new and improved card.
They said to destroy the old card.
And I gave them the scissors signal
with my fingers on my right hand.
And if I could find it, I would cut it up.
I did look for a minute just now (7:03am) and
I don't know where it is.
Let me tell you don't ever have a party in your house
and hide everything because it takes forever to recover
from moving things around.

I have 3 invitations sitting around my house right now.
One is from my niece to come to Las Vegas in January.
One is from a friend having a party in November.
One is from a friend having a party this Saturday.
Hopefully I will make it to all three.
I will give it a try.

Jesus told a story,
"A man was giving a large dinner and he invited many.
At dinner time he sent his servant to say to those invited,
'Come along, everything is ready now.'
But they began to excuse themselves, one and all."
Luke 14:16-18

The invitation is there.
It is addressed to you.
The invitation is from God.
It has your first name on it.
It is very personal.
Will you respond?
Will you accept this invitation?
Do not make excuses.
It is tough to let go of the past.
You want to hold on so tight.
Your life is far from perfect.
It is barely holding on.
Let go.
Find new life.
Do not let the past stop you.
It is time to move on.
It is time to be surprised and amazed
at what God can do for you.
Come and see.

(October 13, 2004 6:06 AM CDT)

Here are the pictures I took on October 9th
with my cell phone of the two hot air balloons
over the lake at 171st and Arbor.
I called for help with my cell phone
yesterday afternoon to upload these pictures.
I had forgotten my password.
They did something to kick out
a text message to my phone
with what it is.
This was another issue caused
by getting a replacement phone
a few weeks ago.
You set the password once and forget it
because the phone remembers it for you
when it is needed.

"Rejoice always,
never cease praying,
render constant thanks;
such is God's will
for you in Christ Jesus."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

There is a piece of cloth at work
on the east wall of my cube
with the word "Joy" sown into it.
One of my cousins in Ohio
gave it to me many years ago.
Here is a picture of my cube
from September of 2003.
There...you see it?
Is there joy in your life?
Can you others see it?
Is there prayer?
Do you talk to the Lord Jesus?
Do you say thanks to God?
Is he part of your life?
They are all tied together.

(October 12, 2004 6:04 AM CDT)

Please pray for 3 of my relatives in Ohio.
Each of them is very sick.
Thanks.

Today is my dad's 83rd birthday,
so happy birthday wherever you are!
I imagine they have Internet access in heaven,
but you never know.

"The whole body, mutually supported and
upheld by joints and sinews,
achieves a growth from this source
which comes from God."
Colossians 2:19

We need each other.
We depend on each other.
Please, do your part.
Encourage one another.
This will lead to growth.
The Lord is in there too...
blessing each of us with the talents that we need.
It will make something beautiful.

(October 11, 2004 5:58 AM CDT)

Yesterday at about 4:15pm I was driving west
on Harvell Drive in Bellevue.
I was approaching the intersection of Galvin Road .
Something was up.
Something was very different.
I have driven by there a hundred times before
and this was unique.
Cars were stopped with no one in them.
An accident had just happened.
The emergency lights of a rescue unit were flashing.
Someone was down on the pavement
with many people around them.
There was a motorcycle near these people.
I guess the person on the motorcycle
was hit by another car.
My mom and I said some prayers
as we drove north on Galvin Road.
Pray for the people involved in the accident.
God be with them.

"Through the gift of God in his goodness
bestowed on me by the exercise of his power,
I became a minister of the gospel.
To me, the least of all believers,
was given the grace to preach to the Gentiles
the unfathomable riches of Christ and
to enlighten all men on the mysterious design
which for ages was hidden in God,
the Creator of all."
Ephesians 3:7-9

Pray for your pastor.
Pray for the leaders in your church.
They have been called by God.
They minister to you.
They need your support.
God bless them for dedicating their lives
in service to the Lord.

(October 10, 2004 6:23 AM CDT)

(Update at 1:14pm:
Sara Evans had a baby girl on October 6th .
Kid #3.
)

(Update at 12:37pm:
Here are some pictures from a few hours ago
in west Omaha.
This is 144th and West Dodge Road.

Did you know that from 144th and West Dodge Road
you can see all the way to downtown Omaha?
The 1st National Bank and Woodmen Towers are on the horizon
as well at the 2 Cathedral bell towers on the left.

This is the building on the northeast corner of the intersection.
My financial advisors are in this building.

Here is a picture of me reflected in the glass
of the same building.

Here is the lake at 171st and Arbor Streets.
Just imagine a hot air balloon 200 feet above the surface
that I saw yesterday morning...a UFO...

These are the rules of the park.
Someone did not like rule number 6 apparently.

The pier on the west side of the lake is impressive.
It is a nice place for a picnic.

There is a sidewalk completely around the lake
with several places to relax.

One more look at the pier and
then I went for a walk at the Westroads Mall after that.

)

Yesterday morning after 7am church
there were these two hot air balloons
going across western Omaha.
I drove on Pacific Street to 168th
then south to West Center Road
then west to 171st
then north two blocks to Arbor
then west a block to a little lake.
One balloon came down very low on the lake.
Where was my digital camera!?
I took 3 pictures with my cell phone
after they ascended back up.
And since I have a new cell phone
it can't transmit the pictures
without a password that I can't figure out.
One thought I have is to try again
to get some pictures this morning.
They might have hot air balloon rides each day
or just on weekends.

Speaking of hot air balloons
today is the last day of the
2004 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta .
Someday I would like to see that.
I was in Albuquerque in August 1998
and I would like to return.
Just look at these pictures of a Mass Ascension .

Lately I have been listening to the CD Up! by Shania Twain
which I downloaded from ITUNES a few days ago.
Wow, there are many songs I like on this CD!
I like that title...Up!

The Moon and Venus are magnificent
in the eastern sky this morning.
They will "pass" each other today.

I was just out to get the newspaper.
The headline says our football team
lost last night 70 to 10 .
The whole state will be depressed today.

Would you believe it is 7:04am
and I can hear a pile driver
on the construction on West Dodge Road?
Hey, it's Sunday.
It's 7am.
It's a day of rest.
Go to church!

"Jesus said,
'You will receive power
when the Holy Spirit comes down on you;
then you are to be my witnesses in Jerusalem,
throughout Judea and Samaria,
yes, even to the ends of the earth.'
No sooner had he said this
than he was lifted up before their eyes in a cloud
which took him from their sight."
Acts 1:8-9

Jesus ascended to heaven.
He returned to the Father.
But he did not leave us alone.
He sent his Holy Spirit to us.
We have the power.
We can soar.
We can do amazing things in the name of Jesus.
Be part of the mass ascension.
Return to the Lord with all your heart.
Listen up!

(October 9, 2004 6:05 AM CDT)

I was back at the Mall last evening and
they set the time on my watch.
They had to take it apart to set it,
so they said when Daylight Savings ends
to bring it back to them and
they will adjust it then.
The lower left button does not work,
so I can't do it myself.
It would probably cost more than a new watch
to have it fixed.

I finally was able to purchase the album of
Bethany Dillon from ITUNES this morning.
I'm listening to it right now.

I took some pictures of trees around Omaha last evening.
This is a tree on Turner Blvd south of Farnam Street
on the west side of the street in Dewey Park
near the tennis courts.
Two guys were playing tennis on a beautiful day.

This tree is on 33rd Street
a few blocks south of Leavenworth Street.

This tree is in Elmwood Park on the road that leads from
Leavenworth Street to Pacific Street.
There were many people out playing golf
on the Elmwood Park Golf Course.

This is a garage at 42nd and Woolworth.
This garage probably cost more to build than my house.

I did see the debate last night of President Bush
and John Kerry.
I watched almost the whole thing and
listened to some parts
as I did a few things (paying bills, etc.)
around the house.
I am Catholic and Kerry is Catholic.
I am disappointed in his views on abortion.
He does not believe it is right to have an abortion,
but he won't support legislation to protect life.
Sorry, John, I don't understand your position.
I am confused on what you are saying.
I don't follow your logic.
This is a very important issue to me.

(October 8, 2004 5:30 AM CDT)

My watch says that it is 9:35am on January 1st.
I think it needs some help.
I had them put in a new battery last night
at the Mall.
It has been acting up lately.
They asked me if I wanted to set the time
and I said sure, but I quickly discovered
I can't do it.
The lower left button is not working
to adjust the settings.
So I will have to go back to them today.

My PC at work had a crazy problem
the last few days on it.
I could not get to some company Unix machines
and external Internet web addresses.
One of the Firewall settings changed somehow.
You go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Firewall Client.
My PC here at home does not even have this on it.
It might just be on Windows XP Professional.
There was a checkbox that said to enable the firewall client.
This was checked and should not have been checked.
How it got changed is a mystery.
I have looked at other's PCs at work
and they are all unchecked.
Very strange!

Here is a picture of my backyard.
I almost don't recognize it after the tree trimming.

I had 3 of the 6 numbers
for the Powerball drawing on October 6th.
I had 4,6,12,44,47,28 and
the right numbers were 5,6,19,44,50,28.
The odds of hitting this combination are 1 in 696.85
says their web site.
I won $7, which of course I have to give away to charity.
I spent $3 to win $7.

This morning I am reading about encephalitis .
It is an inflammation of the brain.
Please, pray for someone that I heard
has this illness.
I don't even know their name.
They used to live in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
They were bit by a mosquito a few years ago.
God be with them today and their family.

"Happy the man (or woman) who holds out
to the end through trial!
Once he (or she) has been proved,
he (or she) will receive the crown of life
the Lord has promised to those who love him."
James 1:12

The promise is there.
The Lord will reward us eternal life.
It is WAY more valuable than
winning the $215M of the Powerball on Saturday.
There is no comparison.
It is life.
It is hope.
It is joy that never ends.
It is literally a dream come true.
It is for real.
The odds are 100 percent.
How can you beat that?
It is a sure thing.
You WILL win.
It is there for you.
Love the Lord with all your heart.
Follow in his ways.
Love him above all things.
You can win MORE than all the lotteries combined
since the beginning of time.
What time is it?
You don't need a watch...
you need the Lord...
you need the Lord Jesus today...
right now...
At the Westroads Mall last night
one of the signs outside a store said:
Dream it.
Live it.
Win it.

(October 7, 2004 6:11 AM CDT)

I saw it the other day at 16th and Martha Streets.
There was an SUV heading west
with the license plate "Sweet."
Cool!...I mean cool!

Yesterday I had my 3 trees trimmed.
These guys did an excellent job.
I'd take a picture and show you,
but it is dark outside still.
Their number is 402-558-8198.
One of the guys lives a few doors
down the street from me.
Now I only have to rake
half as many leaves at the end of the month.
I will have to remember that each October.
God bless them for helping me out.

"You can depend on this:
If we have died with him
we shall also live with him;
If we hold out to the end
we shall also reign with him.
But if we deny him,
he will deny us.
If we are unfaithful,
he will still remain faithful,
for he cannot deny himself."
2 Timothy 2:11-13

Hold on.
Hang in there.
Be faithful to the Lord Jesus.
You can do it.
He gives you the strength.
All you have to do is ask.
He gives you all that you need.
You are called to holiness.
You are called to live with him forever.
And that is...
sweet.

(October 6, 2004 6:12 AM CDT)

Yesterday I walked from 8th floor in the building
where I work to the 18th floor.
I didn't even know there was an 18th floor!
A friend of mine told me about it the other day
and I just had to check it out for myself.
There is a stairway at that point
that goes to the roof of the building.
You can see the steel forms
that makes up the deck of the roof.
The door to the roof is locked of course
from what I could see and
I am a little scared of heights,
so there is no way I'd attempt to climb that stairway.
It is a pretty steep angle too, like climbing a ladder.

Speaking of stairways take a look at this one named
Stairway to Heaven on Oahu.
It is a 2,120 foot ascent!
I get that "scared of heights" feeling
just looking at the photos.

(October 5, 2004 6:24 AM CDT)

Yesterday was one of those days that you never want to end...
Many really cool things happened!

For instance there I was at the Westroads Mall last night
and all the stores were closed at 9pm and I'm still walking.
There on the floor is a little button upsidedown,
so I paused from my walk to pick it up and take a look at it.
It said, "I am loved."
It was white letters and red background.
Yes, amen, God loves me very much!
He does!
There you go...
a message to you from God...
in the dust of the floor at a Mall...
it would have been swept away in a few hours...
and thrown in the dumpster...

I showed you one of the pictures already of the Sears Tower below.

A friend showed up at church yesterday morning that
usually is never there on Mondays.
Surprise!
Someone changed her schedule.

(October 4, 2004 5:59 AM CDT)

Here is another picture of the Sears Tower
taken on October 2nd by someone I work with.

Last night on the way back from Sioux City
I told my friend to pull off on an exit ramp.
(It might have been exit 120 on Interstate 29.)
We parked the car and turned off the lights.
We got out of the car.
We took a look up and all around us.
Wow!
The stars were awesome!
The Lord puts on an unbelievable show every night.
I have not seen the Milky Way Galaxy in a very long time.
It was just magnificent!
It was!
Take a drive away from the city lights some evening
and see what the Lord has made.
It is right there.
Take a look.

At the meeting in Sioux City last evening
they said that only 25 percent of Christians vote.
Would you please...
Be informed about politicians that support Christian values.
Vote on November 2.
I'm told that in Omaha you can go vote right now
ahead of time, if you can't vote on November 2.

"For he shall give his angels charge over you
to keep you in all your ways."
Psalms 91:11

Call on the angels.
They are there.
They are available.
Put them to work.
Lord, send your angels to watch over
my family and friends today.
You are most wonderful.
You are awesome.
Send your angels to protect us from all harm today.
We ask this in the most holy name of Jesus.
Amen.

(October 3, 2004 6:31 AM CDT)

Yes, I just grabbed the newspaper from outside
and Orion and the moon are still there.
All the universe is in order...
well, then again, some of the universe is in order.

This morning I'm looking at a map of
Sioux City, Iowa .
I'm going there this evening at 6pm to see Dr. James Dobson
at the Tyson Events Center .
Their web site is down at the moment
and I'd like to see where it is located in the city.
Here is the event web site
with the location of "401 Gordon Drive
(Exit 149 off of I-29)."
Here is the mapquest.com map of the location.
It is very easy to find.
Sioux City is not that big of a place.
Pray for Dr. Dobson and all the wonderful things
that he does for the Lord!

At 2pm I will be at 31st and Broadway in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
It is Life Chain Sunday, so I will be holding up a sign
for an hour and praying for mothers to let their babies live
instead of having an abortion.

This morning I'm reading about
Bethany Dillon .
I heard one of her songs on KGBI 100.7 FM
as I drove to Columbus Friday morning.
I think the song is "All I Need."
I just downloaded the song for FREE on ITUNES.
I guess they are just giving it away!
I tried to buy the whole album,
but there was an error.
It says:
"Purchase of this item is not currently available."
The song is playing now.
I love the song.
Cool!

BTW (By the way) Rich and Lori have
adopted a total of 11 children
and have 8 of their own children.
One of their children died.
I found that out Friday morning.
No wonder I am impressed!

I moved south for the winter yesterday...
the south bedroom that is...

It is 43 degrees this morning in Omaha and
39 degrees in Sioux City,
which is about 2 hours north of Omaha.

When I was driving back on Friday from Columbus
I found out the hard way that one of the phone numbers
I had re-entered on my cell phone was WRONG.
I had even double-checked everything and
still got at least one number wrong (and maybe others)!
I had flipped the last two digits to 29 instead of 92.
Great!
Talk about panic attack!
I hate when that happens.
I kept calling the wrong number over and over
with no answer and no voice messaging and
no message it was an active/inactive number.
It just rang and rang.
Somehow I still made it for lunch on time.
It amazed me.
One of those surprises.
I never expected it to work out.

This morning there is a Mass at 10:30am for my dad
at his church St. Joseph at 17th and Center .
His birthday is coming up on October 12th (Columbus Day).
(Another coincidence...Columbus Day...
I was in Columbus Nebraska October 1st for the first time in my life...)
Interesting.

"Since you have been raised up in company with Christ,
set your heart on what pertains to higher realms
where Christ is seated at God's right hand.
Be intent on things above
rather than on things of earth."
Colossians 3:1-2

I tell you to look up.
See the Lord above.
Discover new worlds (as Columbus did).
Take the Lord's hand.
He will lift you up.
Go on an adventure.
When you call on him
he will answer in his own way.
It will surprise you.
It is a free gift for you today.
He IS...all you need!

(October 2, 2004 5:57 AM CDT)

I just stepped outside to get the paper.
It is 34 degrees outside.
Orion with its 3 stars
is brilliant right over my house with
a slightly less than full moon.
You can see quite a few stars in the sky.
It is still very dark out.
It is cool, but does not feel that bad.
I did have to turn on the furnace,
since it was getting down to 64 degrees
inside the house at 2am or 3am
(I was half asleep).

I made it to Columbus, Nebraska yesterday.
I found the prison where this person is been held.
But this is 2004, so you can't just show up
and expect to see a prisoner.
There is all this red tape to go through,
so maybe someday I will get to visit with them.
Anyway I did get some pictures of the town of 20K people.
This is the McDonalds on Highway 30 in town.
I had a Big Breakfast and asked them for directions to the prison.

This is Hwy 30 looking west.
You can see the temperature (58) on the sign.

And of course the Wal-Mart.
I bought a jacket there since it was getting cold
and I forgot to bring a jacket along.
Every car in the parking lot was from a different county.
Columbus must be a central spot for people to shop
in that area of Nebraska.

The pole holding this flag was going to break.
It was not designed to hold such a large flag.
It is bent over as you can see.
This wind out of the north was really picking up.
The temperature was dropping.
They even have Val's in their town.
I just noticed that.

This is the prison on the east side of town
looking to the east.

This is the visitor's parking lot at the prison
on a cold dreary day.
I went thought the doors there and talked to a woman
for a few minutes about all "the rules" of visiting prisoners.
The rules are on two type written pages,
which they gave me a copy of.
The prisoner has to OK that you can visit them ahead of time.

This is a very fancy marker for the visitor's entrance.

Anyway pray for all the prisoners there.
Pray for all the people that work there.
God be with them.

I wonder if Sara Evans had her baby yet.
It was due at the end of September.
The news on her web site does not say anything about it,
so I guess not.

Time (6:45am) for church at Boys Town.
Maybe I will write later...
there is so much to write about!
There is!

(October 1, 2004 5:29 AM CDT)

Last night at 8:04pm I was trying to read the newspaper.
The next thing I knew it was 8:44pm
and my right leg was asleep,
so I immediately went to bed.
It was like time had skipped.
That is how it felt.
My body was in "shutdown mode."
Good night.

We had thunderstorms go through Omaha
this morning around 4am.
It is a good thing I got the lawn mowed
last night in the dark no less.
The days are getting too short for me
and things I need to do.

A few days ago as I was leaving my parking garage after work
the car in front of me had a license plate
that said "PRAY 1ST"...
a very good idea.

At lunchtime yesterday I was out for a walk
at the Heartland of America Park.
A girl was taking a picture of her boyfriend
at the bottom of the waterfalls just below 8th Street.
Then I offered to take a picture of both of them.
You just frame them in the viewfinder
and press the silver button.
Click and I continued my walk back to the office.
God bless them both whoever they were.
It was one of those "digital moments" at 12:27pm.

This morning I'm wondering if I should
go visit someone in prison or not.
I am tossing the idea around in my mind.
I don't know.
The prison is about 2 hours away from Omaha.
I can't say that I have ever visited
someone in prison in my life.
I don't think so.

Jesus does talk about it in the Bible.
"For I was hungry and you gave me food.
I was thirsty and you gave me drink.
I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me.
I was ill and you comforted me,
in prison and you came to visit me."
Matthew 25:35-36

If Jesus said to do it, I better do it.
It seems pretty obvious, doesn't it?
Well, pray for all the people in that prison today.
I will check it out.
I might even take my camera.
A few days ago someone I work with was joking around
and saying they were going to prison
along with someone else,
if they don't get some work done.
I told her I would come to visit them in reply.
An interesting conversation for sure.
