October 1 to 31, 1999

Live for Jesus
Pray for Your Neighbor

Sing for Joy

Jesus is the Way

See the Beauty

God is Love

(October 31, 1999 6:54 AM CST)

My sister was at church last evening
and someone had a heart attack.
They called 9-1-1,
but they could not revive the person.
(Update on 11-7-99: They did revive him,
but he died about a week later.
Sorry for the misinformation.)
Pray for that person and their family.

Here in the USA we changed our clocks last night.
Daylight Savings Time ended.
My opinion of this is to
leave the clocks one hour forward
all year round.
Give us the extra hour of daylight
in the evening every day.

"O Lord, our Lord,
how glorious is your name
over all the earth!
You have exalted your majesty
above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings
you have fashioned praise because of your foes,
to silence the hostile and the vengeful."
Psalms 8:1-3

Yes, teach your children to pray.
Teach them to pray to their father in heaven.
Prayer will silence the enemy.
Prayer will protect them.
They are a gift from God.
Give them back to the Lord.
Present them to the Lord of life.
They are a blessing.
Praise the Lord.

(October 30, 1999 6:38 AM CDT)

Jesus asked,
"When the Son of Man comes,
will he find any faith on the earth?"
Luke 18:8

Did you find a leaf?
When you see the leaf on your desk pray:
Lord, increase my faith.
Faith is very important.
You need it and I need it.
You cannot make it without faith.
Jesus will come again.
Let us prepare.
Let us continue the struggle.
We must be prepared.
We must set the stage.
Come, Lord Jesus.
Come and increase our faith.
Strengthen us, Lord.
We need you.
What will Jesus find when he returns?

(October 29, 1999 6:12 AM CDT)

I did not sleep too well last night.
Pray for me to make it through the day.
Thanks.

"Do not conform yourselves to this age
but be transformed
by the renewal of your mind,
so that you may judge
what is God's will,
what is good,
pleasing and
perfect."
Romans 12:2

What are you doing?
Are you just like the world?
Do you do what everyone else does?
If you follow Jesus, you will be different.
You will forgive people.
You will not hold grudges.
You will help the poor.
You will pray to God.
You will love your neighbor.
You will think different.
Let Jesus into your head.
Let him change your thinking.
Do what is pleasing to God.
Think about others.
Be thoughtful.
Be transformed (in body, mind and soul).
Be different (from the world).
Be perfect (like Jesus).

(October 28, 1999 6:08 AM CDT)

"Dismiss all anxiety from your minds.
Present your needs to God
in every form of prayer and
in petitions full of gratitude.
Then God's own peace,
which is beyond all understanding,
will stand guard over your hearts and minds,
in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7

Are you worried?
Are you upset?
Something is wrong.
Something is not right.
Push these problems out of your mind.
Push them to the Lord.
Give them to him.
Cast your cares on Jesus.
Trust in the Lord to deal with them.
They are too big for you.
Jesus will help you.
He is there.
Jesus wants you to be at peace.
Give your problems to him.

(October 27, 1999 6:10 AM CDT)

The branch is gone from the wire
on the north side of my house.
I called OPPD on Monday morning.
By the time I got home from work
they had knocked it off the wire.
I then broke it up into 100 pieces.
Done.
Mission accomplished.
That is one for the history books.

"All are one in Christ Jesus.
Furthermore,
if you belong to Christ
you are the descendants of Abraham,
which means you inherit all
that was promised."
Galatians 3:28-29

You can't be a Christian by yourself.
You can't hide in your little corner.
Christianity is community.
You are to be one with your
fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
Get out there.
Pray with other believers.
Fellowship with them.
Share with them.
What is the promise?

The Lord's messenger said to Abraham:
"I will bless you abundantly
and make your descendants
as countless as the stars of the sky
and the sands of the seashore;
your descendants shall take possession
of the gates of their enemies,
and in your descendants all the nations
of the earth shall find blessing ---
all this because you obeyed my command."
Genesis 22:17-18

Be blessed.
Take possession of the gate.
Obey the Lord.
Be a descendant.

(October 26, 1999 6:19 AM CDT)

We pray today for all the people
on the plane that crashed in South Dakota.
One of them was Payne Stewart.
We pray for their families.

"Bow humbly under God's mighty hand,
so that in due time he may lift you high.
Cast all your cares on him
because he cares for you."
1 Peter 5:6-7

Turn to the Lord.
Give your cares to him.
He is there to help.
He loves you.
Bow down to worship him.
He is the Lord of creation.
He is the Lord of all.
Call out his name.
Sing his praise.
Don't sing your praise.
Be humble.
He gave you all the talents that you have.
Give the glory to God.
One day...
he will take you home.
One day you will go home
to be with the Lord.

(October 25, 1999 6:13 AM CDT)

I keep a leaf right here by my computer.
Every time I see it I say a prayer:
Lord, increase my faith.

"By faith Enoch was taken away without dying,
and 'he was seen no more
because God took him.'
Scripture testifies that,
before he was taken up,
he was pleasing to God ---
but without faith,
it is impossible to please him.
Anyone who comes to God
must believe that he exists,
and that he rewards those who seek him."
Hebrews 11:5-6

Seek the Lord.
He will reward you.
You will be blessed with faith.
Study about Jesus.
Read his words.
Pray to him.
You will be blessed.
Your faith will increase.
Then you can testify to the love of God.
You can tell others that you have been blessed.
You can share the truth.
Enoch did not die.
It is an amazing thing to escape death.

"Enoch walked with God,
and he was no longer here,
for God took him."
Genesis 5:24

Walk with the Lord.
Follow his ways.
May the Lord increase your faith today.

(October 24, 1999 6:59 AM CDT)

Yesterday I raked leaves for about 4 hours.
When I was done it looked so nice.
I filled 3 trash cans.
Today I am hurting all over.
I am tired.
I was really pushing myself.
I have a black and blue mark on my left elbow.
I hit it with the rake.
i.e. I'm not too smart.
I was trying to knock a branch off a power line.
The branch is "V" shaped and has been there
for a year or two.
It is about 10 feet (3 meters) long top to bottom.
I called our power company to have it removed.
I guess I need to call them again.
It is fall here in Omaha .

"...the grace of our Lord
has been granted me in overflowing measure,
along with the faith and love
which are in Christ Jesus.
You can depend on this
as worthy of full acceptance:
that Christ Jesus came into the world
to save sinners."
1 Timothy 1:14-15

Jesus, come and save us.
We have sinned.
We need help.
Forgive our sins.
We have done wrong.
We have fallen.
Pick us up.
Restore us.
Give us new life.
Give us your life.
Free us.
Save us, Lord.
We ask this in the name of Jesus.

(October 23, 1999 6:30 AM CDT)

Sycamore Networks had a great day yesterday.
Did you find a sycamore leaf yet?
I'm still looking.
Maybe just use any leaf you can find.

"I will thank you always
for what you have done,
and proclaim the goodness of your name
before your faithful ones."
Psalms 52:11

We continue to lift up the name of Jesus.
He is the faithful one.
He is deserving of all our praise and honor.
He is the mighty one.
Holy is his name.
He is all goodness.
We praise you Lord Jesus today.
We thank you Jesus.

(October 22, 1999 6:15 AM CDT)

"With God there is no favoritism."
Romans 2:11

God loves us all.
He loves us completely.
He plays no favorites.
He wants the best for each of us.
We are all given the chance for heaven.
You can turn it down.
You can ignore God and his invitation,
but the invitation is sent to all.
Jesus invites you to a new life.
Many times he says:
come and see.
God loves you.
Will you accept the invitation?

(October 21, 1999 6:14 AM CDT)

"The apostles for their part
left the Sanhedrin full of joy
that they had been judged worthy
of ill-treatment for the sake of the Name.
Day after day,
both in the temple and at home,
they never stopped teaching and proclaiming
the good news of Jesus the Messiah."
Acts 5:41-42

The Name.
What name?
You have a name.
They call you by your name
to get your attention and you look up
or around to see who's calling.
You get mail at your house or apartment or dorm
or work with your name on it.
It pins it down to you.
It is for you.
It is addressed to you.
That is why we call on the name of Jesus.
We contact him.
We address him.
We call on him.
He is unique.
We want to talk to him.
He has full authority on earth.
He is all powerful.
Call on him today.
Jesus, help me through this day.
Lead me.
Guide me.
Show me the truth.
Give me strength to continue.
Hold me.
I need you.
I call on your most holy name.
Save me, Lord Jesus.

(October 20, 1999 6:10 AM CDT)

The apostles said to the Lord,
"Increase our faith,"
and he answered:
"If you had faith
the size of a mustard seed,
you could say to this sycamore,
'Be uprooted and transplanted into the sea,'
and it would obey you."
Luke 17:5-6

Faith.
What is it?
Do you have any of it?
It is trust.
We trust the Lord Jesus.
He said many things.
We believe what he told us is true.
It takes faith to believe.
I pray today that your faith will increase.
I pray that you will believe
with all your heart and soul.
Jesus is true.
Go find a sycamore tree today.
Study it.
Pickup one of its leaves.
Keep it in your Bible as a reminder.
Say a prayer each day:
Jesus, increase my faith.

(October 19, 1999 6:10 AM CDT)

"I believe that I shall see
the bounty of the Lord
in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord with courage;
be stouthearted,
and wait for the Lord."
Psalms 27:13-14

There is timing
and there is timing.
Timing is everything.
You are given a few thousand days
here on earth to show you love God.
Then your time is up.
What are you doing with all this time?
Show you love the Lord.
Prove it.
He proves that he loves you.
The Lord owns all things.
He provides for you and your family.
If we only knew, how much God loves us.
There is a promised land.
There is a place set aside for you.
He loves you.
There is a time to wait.
There is a time to act.
When the Lord Jesus says to wait --- wait.
If he says to go --- then go.
Do you hear your directions from the Lord?
Do you obey God's call?
Are you listening?

(October 18, 1999 6:13 AM CDT)

"Whatever you do,
whether in speech or in action,
do it in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Give thanks to God the Father through him."
Colossians 3:17

What are you doing?
Stop for a moment.
Take a snapshot of your life today.
Picture perfection .
If Jesus saw what you were doing,
would he approve?
Are you living for yourself
or for Jesus?
Do you ask Jesus for guidance
or don't you need any help?
Do you thank the Lord?
Is thanksgiving one of your prayers?
We give thanks and praise to you today Lord Jesus.
Help us to be faithful witnesses.
Let people be draw to you.
Draw us close to you.
Give us your wisdom and grace.
Bless us, Lord.
We praise your name.
We thank you.

(October 17, 1999 7:02 AM CDT)

"The Lord is the Spirit,
and where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is freedom.
All of us,
gazing on the Lord's glory with unveiled faces,
are being transformed from glory to glory
into his very image
by the Lord who is the Spirit."
2 Corinthians 3:17-18

Are you different than you were a year ago ?
Are you moving from glory to glory?
Are you falling away from the Lord?
The Holy Spirit is there.
The Spirit will show you glory.
You will find freedom
to be all that God wants you to be.
See the image.
Push aside the veil.
God wants you to be transformed.
The battle begins in your mind.
Bring the Spirit into your thoughts.
Be lead by the Spirit.
The Spirit will lead you to holiness.
Come Spirit of the living God.
Fall upon us.
Change us.
Use us.
Renew our minds and hearts.
Show us your glory.

(October 16, 1999 6:32 AM CDT)

Jesus said,
"What the sower is sowing is the word."
Mark 4:14

Words are very powerful.
There are thousands of words in the Bible.
Some are words spoken by Jesus.
He is God, so his words carry great weight.
They are words of life.
Each day you should be reading the Bible.
These words of life get into you.
They get inside your mind.
They can change you.
But you must sow.
You must read.
It takes time to sow.
Pray for the Holy Spirit when you read the Bible.
The Spirit will help you to understand.
Come Holy Spirit.
Help us to understand these words of life.
Inspire us.
Enlighten us.
Brighten us.
Help us to grow.

(October 15, 1999 6:13 AM CDT)

Pray for Barbara that writes
The Bible Verse of the Day .
She had some emergency surgery.

"Only in God is my soul at rest;
from him comes my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold;
I shall not be disturbed at all."
Psalms 62:2-3

Rest.
Rest in God.
He alone is peace.
Find Jesus and you have found peace.
I'm praying today that you find rest.
Don't be restless.
Jesus says to come and stay awhile with him.
Take a break from the rush, rush, rush.
Slow down.
Look up.
See the stars.
See the clouds of heaven.
See the mountains.
Hear the birds sing.
Feel the wind blow.
You're thinking: I don't have time for that.
So you rush, rush, rush.
Where are you going?
Find Jesus.
Find rest.

(October 14, 1999 6:10 AM CDT)

Billy Graham is in St. Louis today.
Pray for the success of his mission.
If you live near St. Louis, go see him.

"He died for us,
that all of us,
whether awake or asleep,
together might live with him.
Therefore, comfort and encourage one another,
as indeed you are doing."
1 Thessalonians 5:10-11

Jesus died for you.
He died because he loves you.
He gave up his life
so that you could have eternal life.
I hope this gives you comfort.
He is a God of love.
He is a God of hope.
I'm praying for you today.
You need Jesus.
You say: how does he know me?
God knows you.
He made you.
He knows everything about you.
You need Jesus.
He is the answer to all your prayers.
He is your comfort.

(October 13, 1999 6:13 AM CDT)

"As you well know,
we have our citizenship in heaven;
it is from there
that we eagerly await
the coming of our Savior,
the Lord Jesus Christ.
He will give a new form
to this lowly body of ours
and remake it according to the pattern
of his glorified body,
by his power
to subject everything to himself."
Philippians 3:20-21

Jesus is coming again.
We are eager to see him.
We are eager to go to heaven.
We will have a new body.
We will not have to worry about death.
There will be no sickness.
We will be in the presence of God.
There will be true peace.
This is our home.
We are citizens of heaven.
We look forward to this.
Jesus has promised us
that he has prepared a place for us.
He is our hope.
One day we will see his face.

(October 12, 1999 6:15 AM CDT)

Someone wrote to me asking for prayer.
She needs peace of mind.
So pray for her.
Thanks.

Yesterday at lunch my friend Jim
asked me if I heard "the news".
What news?
His wife had a baby boy.
Congratulations!
That is wonderful.
We celebrate new life today.
Praise the Lord.
We thank you Lord.

"How deep are the riches
and the wisdom
and the knowledge of God!
How inscrutable his judgments,
how unsearchable his ways!"
Romans 11:33

He is there.
He is God.
He knows all things.
He sees the big picture.
Go to him.
Ask him for wisdom.
Many times we don't know what to do.
Ask for directions.
He knows you.
He knows what is best for you.
He loves you.
You are his child.
You are held safe in his arms.

(October 11, 1999 6:12 AM CDT)

"In contrast, the fruit of the spirit is
love,
joy,
peace,
patient endurance,
kindness,
generosity,
faith,
mildness and
chastity.
Against such there is no law!"
Galatians 5:22-23

Is this your life?
Do you have any joy?
Is there peace?
Are you kind?
Are you generous?
Can you endure?

(October 10, 1999 7:24 AM CDT)

It's Sunday.
It is the Lord's day.
Go to church and worship him.

"Let us not grow weary of doing good;
if we do not relax our efforts,
in due time we shall reap our harvest."
Galatians 6:9

It is harvest time here in Nebraska and Iowa.
The farmers are going through their fields
with these large machines
cutting down the corn.
The dust is flying.
They are very busy.
But it took time.
It took planning.
They had to take it a step at a time.
They planted the seeds.
They sprayed for weeds or insects.
They prayed for good weather.
They did their work.
Now it is time to harvest.
Do you plant the seeds of faith?
Do you make an effort?
Are you patient?
Do you pray?
The growth comes from God.
He is faithful.
Work for the kingdom.
Do not grow weary.
The harvest WILL happen.

(October 9, 1999 6:13 AM CDT)

"Every one of us will have to give
an account of himself before God.
Therefore we must no longer
pass judgment on one another.
Instead you should resolve
to put no stumbling block or hindrance
in your brother's way."
Romans 14:12-13

Do you help your fellow Christian?
Or --- are you a stumbling block?
Do you lead them closer to Jesus
or farther away?
Be an example.
Display love.
Don't block God's plan.
He wants to change the world.
Face it ---
if you are wrong, change.
Do the right thing.
Do what God wants you to do.

(October 8, 1999 6:08 AM CDT)

I heard a few days ago that
Theresa had passed away.
She used to live in Omaha and
moved to Bellevue, Washington
She worked on the same floor that I did.
She died from breast cancer.
Pray for her and her family.
God be with them.

"I am convinced, my brothers,
that you are filled with goodness,
that you have complete knowledge,
and that you are able
to give advice to one another."
Romans 15:14

Help each other.
If you see a brother or sister wandering,
help them.
Offer your assistance.
Be holy.
This will help you see things clearly.
Then you will be of service to others.
Seek the Lord in prayer.
Jesus is the answer.
He knows what is best.
Pray for me.
Sometimes people write to me
and I'm not sure what to say in reply.
Thanks.

(October 7, 1999 6:10 AM CDT)

"I love you, O Lord, my strength,
O Lord, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer.
My God, my rock of refuge, my shield,
the horn of my salvation, my stronghold!"
Psalms 18:1-3

The Lord is our strength.
He is our help in times of trouble.
Call on him.
He is the rock.
He is solid.
Take shelter in him.
When the stress is too much
come to Jesus.
He will hold you up.
When disaster strikes
he will give you peace.
He will deliver you.

(October 6, 1999 6:13 AM CDT)

It's been one year,
since my sister Joan died.
It happened on October 6, 1998 .
We remember her.
We will miss her.

(October 5, 1999 6:14 AM CDT)

Life goes on.
The fence at 18 and Martha is fixed.
I drove by yesterday on the way home,
but you can still see the little pieces
of glass shining in the street.

"We testify to this.
So too does the Holy Spirit,
whom God has given to those that obey him."
Acts 5:32

Peter was a witness.
He saw Jesus.
He walked with Jesus.
He testified to the truth.
What do you see?
Are you a witness?
What is the evidence?
Testify.
Testify that God is good.
He is faithful.
Have you told anyone?
The Holy Spirit will help you.
Come Holy Spirit.
Make us witnesses to the truth.
Be with us.
Give us your strength.
Life goes on.

(October 4, 1999 6:14 AM CDT)

Yesterday I has holding a sign on the northeast
corner of 52nd and Dodge from 2 PM to 3 PM.
A lot of cars went by as I stood there.
It was for the Life Chain .
Spring2Life is Pro-Life!
We are for life.
Amen.
Please, let your baby live.
Thanks.

Jesus said,
"I am the resurrection and the life:
whoever believes in me,
though he should die, will come to life;
and whoever is alive and
believes in me will never die."
John 11:25-26

What is life?
It is a gift.
It is a gift from God.
There is something beyond all the chemicals
that make up living things.
It is the breath of God.
It is the design of God.
You can watch cells divide under a microscope,
and you can chart all the DNA sequences ,
and miss the point.
We are a creation.
God has created us.
We are a miracle.
You are a miracle.
You are alive.
Treasure this gift of life.

(October 3, 1999 6:38 AM CDT)

Yesterday I drove by 18th and Martha Street
in Omaha .
The chain-link fence on the northeast corner
is destroyed from the car accident
that happened last Monday night.
One guy in the neighborhood was watching
Monday Night Football
and heard the crash.
One car was going east on Martha
and the other car was going north on 18th
and ran the stop sign.

Jesus said,
"Treat others the way
you would have them treat you."
Matthew 7:12

It is simple.
Be kind to others
and they will be kind to you.
Be mean and
they will return the "compliment".
This happens a lot in driving.
They call it "road rage".
Be nice to your fellow drivers.
Share the road.
Drive safely.
In my opinion it is a sin
to drive your car in an unsafe manner.
You can kill or hurt someone
by driving too fast or trying to get even
with someone that upset you.
So they cut you off ---
so what?
You probably did the same thing
to someone else on some other occasion.
Be nice.
Keep life simple.
Live to see another day.

(October 2, 1999 6:22 AM CDT)

"My little ones,
I am writing this to keep you from sin.
But if anyone should sin,
we have, in the presence of the Father,
Jesus Christ, an intercessor who is just.
He is an offering for our sins,
and not for our sins only,
but for those of the whole world."
1 John 2:1-2

Jesus is the one.
Go to him.
He died for everyone.
All have sinned and fallen short of the mark.
He died for you.
Ask him to forgive you.
All you have to do is ask.

(Note: I just noticed I used this same passage
from the Bible back on September 10th.
Sorry to repeat myself.
I guess I'm not perfect.
We all make mistakes.)

(October 1, 1999 6:09 AM CDT)

Today from 6 AM to 6 PM
The Bridge (100.7 FM)
is asking you to be a Lighthouse of Prayer.
Pray for your neighbors.
Prayer changes things!

"My brothers,
the case may arise among you
of someone straying from the truth,
and of another bringing him back.
Remember this:
the person who brings a sinner back from his way
will save his soul from death
and cancel a multitude of sins."
James 5:19-20

Pray.
Why pray?
Because it changes things.
Jesus prayed.
He sometimes prayed all night.
Here he is God and he needed to pray ---
how much more we need to pray.
He set the example.
Let us follow him.
