July, 2004

Stand up for what is right
Seek holiness

Do the will of God

Love your neighbor

Seek first the kingdom of God

All things are possible

(July 31, 2004 6:22 AM and 8:33 AM CDT)

So much happening...
so little time to write about it...

Yesterday I went to the dentist.
Every 6 months for many years I have gone there.
No cavities, of course...
my perfect record is still intact.
I "discovered" that he is a #3 kid.
His sister is the receptionist in the office.
I didn't know that!
All these years I have been going there
and no one ever told me.
His Dad died a few months ago,
so we compared notes on how things are going.
How is his Mom?
She has Alzheimers and lives on 10th Street.
She did not even go to the funeral.
She has no idea who she is.
He already has lost the "link" to the previous generation.
So pray for him and his two sisters and family.

Or how about the clock in my bedroom this morning?
The first time today I checked the clock
it said 3:33 AM on the dot.
You know I like number 3.
So was that an interesting coincidence or
was that a sign from God?
I don't know.
Let's just leave it a coincidence for the moment.

You should have seen me cutting up this carpet remnant
in the basement last night until 11 PM.
I could have made a movie about it.
I bought a 12 by 12 foot piece of carpet on July 23.
My brother brought it to my house on July 26.
I owe him one.

Then yesterday the trash people would not
take the old carpet away,
so my neighbor on the south side
bagged it all up for me.
I had cut it up, but it needed to be in bags.
I owe her one.
These people are way too nice to me!

I think I am going to Lincoln, Nebraska today
to do some research.
I have not been there in a while.
I might even take my camera (no lie)!
I went to college ( UNL ) there 1970 to 1974.
Lincoln is a flat town.
You can ride anywhere on a bicycle
and not get too tired.
Maybe I will take my bicycle
(no, yes, no, I think so if it fits).
It has two flat tires.
I better fix them.
I just found the tire pump (OK, alright).

Right now I am listening to cassette tape 95-2 Side A.
These songs from 1995 are great!
I have tried to go out to Itunes and buy some,
but they are way too old.
These are just songs off the radio 98.5 FM
and 104.5 FM
and a country music station also.
"Today's best music...Sweet 98," they keep saying.
You can hear the DJs "Rocket in the morning"
and his girl sidekick
(Terri Ann "cannibal" Hannibal, maybe) from
time to time between the songs.
I even once played tennis with her at the
Miracle Hills Tennis Club.
She never came back again.
Sorry, I must have said something wrong.
I ran a tennis league back then.

Father Val at Boys Town said the 7 AM Mass
for my Dad this morning.
I pointed to him from the 2nd seat on
left side area of Dowd Chapel and said,
"Thanks! God bless you",
which everyone heard during his brief sermon.
He was about 20 feet away from me.
I guess you're not supposed to do that in church.
Sorry about that.
I won't let that happen again.
He is the best!
I have no idea why our local newspaper
gives him such a hard time.
They are clueless
(I've been saying that word a lot lately).
He does wonders with those kids there.
He is great!

"...in the present time
there is a remnant
chosen by the grace of God."
Romans 11:5

You wonder sometimes...
will Rocket or Terri or my dentist or Val
will they make it to heaven.
Will I make it to heaven?
Will you make it to heaven?
There is only a remnant.
There is only a small number that will make it.
We for sure are all torn and cut up.
Will we make it?
Only by the grace of God.
A motorcycle going east on Pacific at 132nd Streets
this morning said "RU SAVD" (are you saved).
Are you?
Don't lose the "link" to the Lord.
You need it!
You need to know who you are.
Don't every forget.

(July 30, 2004 5:31 AM CDT)

Hey, I won!
I beat my nephew 2 out of 3 games.
I remembered some of my trick shots
from about 10 years ago when I played every week.
I used to play all the time in a league
at Racquetball of Omaha at about 67th and Grover Streets.
At first I had to catch my breath.
My, am I out of shape!
But then it was easier as the evening went on.
We played for an hour and a half.
This morning I am hurting,
but it was worth it.
My back hurts on the right side.
Racquetball is a blast!
It is fun!
I love the game.
We just need to review the rules.
There were some things we had questions about.
The "Y" looks great!
They have done a wonderful job remodeling the place
since I was last there a few years ago.
I saw the pool where I took lessons
for a couple of years.
The chlorine would just burn my eyes out.
It is still there.

We pray today for Susan Buffett and her family.
She died yesterday.
She was the wife of Warren Buffett.

"He will strengthen you to the end,
so that you will be blameless
on the day of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God is faithful,
and it was he who called you
to fellowship with his Son,
Jesus Christ out Lord."
1 Corinthians 1:8-9

God is after you.
He is.
He is pursuing you.
He is calling you.
He wants fellowship.
Will you respond?

(July 29, 2004 5:54 AM CDT)

Today?
Well, I'm going to see
if I remember how to play Racquetball .
My, they have a lot of rules to read!
I'm playing my nephew after work
at the "Y" downtown on court #4.
He will probably beat me,
so pray for me.
He beat me in golf a few weeks ago.

"The man stood and picked up his mat and
went outside in the sight of everyone.
They were awestruck;
all gave praise to God, saying,
'We have never seen anything like this!'"
Mark 2:12

When you meet Jesus...
when you truly encounter Jesus...
you will be blown away.
You will be in awe.
You won't be able to say a thing.
You will break down and cry for joy.
It is very hard for me to explain this to people.
I tell people about the joy inside my heart,
but it is just words.
Jesus is way beyond words.
It is more than feelings.
I use the term, "Touching the Infinite."
You connect with the source of all life.
So I say, "Come and see."
Invite Jesus to be part of your life.
Check him out.
Your life will never be the same again.
You will be blown away!
Jesus, I invite you into my life.
I want to know all about you.

(July 28, 2004 5:57 AM CDT)

This morning I went back to read
what I wrote back in October 1996 .
It mentions "Darryl was there with his daughter."
I talked to his wife and daughter
on the 4th of July at this church,
just a few weeks ago.
I had lunch with his wife on July 10th,
just 18 days ago.
Darryl died February 16, 2003.
I still can't believe he is dead.
Really, truly, I can't!
This was the most "alive" guy I have ever met.
He had unbelievable amounts of energy.
He loved Jesus inside and out.
I just expect to run into him
at the Westroads Mall sometime
when I am out for my daily hour walk
and ask him how he has been.
I think that is the last time I talked to him
was at the Westroad Mall
a week or two before I read his name in the obituaries.
I didn't believe it was him
the first obituary listing in the newspaper.
It was only the next day when all the family was listed.
This guy was a saint.
I cannot believe he is gone!

"Cast your cares upon the Lord,
and he will support you..."
Psalms 55:23

Maybe you have lost a loved one.
You are in shock.
You can't believe it is happening to you.
Go to Jesus.
He will embrace you.
He will give you a hug.
He will listen to you.
He is there for you.

(July 27, 2004 6:09 AM CDT)

Yesterday I had lunch at Brandeis downtown food court.
I always get the Broccoli Beef and a water
from the Mandarin Express.
I don't even have to tell Nancy
my order and she writes it up.
I think I am just too predictable!
I'm in a rut.
After lunch I bought a dozen cookies
and they gave me 4 for free.
One free for every 3.
What a deal!
I was heading back to work
to share all these calories
with the gang I work with.
Then a thought hit me.
I could give the cookies away.
I could give them to the homeless
there on the 14th Street Mall
between Douglas and Farnam
on the east side of the street.
It was a little scary
to walk up to complete strangers
and say here is a sack of cookies.
Go for it!
Then I walked off.
I escaped.
I blew it.
I should have stayed at least a few minutes
and chatted with them.
Some of them probably go to Francis House to eat
in the evenings.
I'm just sharing that with you today.
You can learn from my mistake.
Those people are just as precious to God
as you and me.
Treat them with respect.

"Cast all your cares on him
because he cares for you."
1 Peter 5:7

God watches over the lowly and the poor.
He watches over you and your family.
He is there.
He gives you good gifts out the clear blue sky.
He will surprise you.
He cares all about Y-O-U.

(July 26, 2004 6:06 AM CDT)

Look what Sara Evans says on her CD cover
of "Born to Fly":
"And finally, Lord Jesus,
let everything I do be pleasing to You
and be Your will.
I love You above everything.
Thank You for the blessings in my life
and thank You for giving me music.
Please help me to walk in a manner
worthy of the calling
with which I have been called.
Ephesians 4:1

Sounds good to me!
Amen, sister.
I couldn't say it any better.
And Sara is a #3 kid just like me.
No wonder I like her.
She says on the cover of "Restless":
"I love that when I'm with you
I'm just Sara, #3 of seven."
(Here is the link for this .)
I'm #3 of nine.

(July 25, 2004 5:49 AM CDT)

(Update at 7:52 PM:

Here are the pictures of Carroll, Iowa
taken today on my adventure.
It is 118 miles from my house and
2 hours and 10 minutes away.
This is Main Street in town.

I found the Carroll Municipal Golf Course.
Call 712-792-9190 for tee times.
It costs about $15 for 9 holes of play.
They have 18 holes and 6 lakes to cross.
It looks tough.

This is St. Lawrence Church.

What town would be complete without Wal-Mart?

The Union Pacific tracks run generally east and west
right through the center of town.
You hear train whistles every 15 minutes.
It must drive the people crazy.

Here is Holy Spirit Church.
I went to 10:00 AM Mass there.
I asked the priest to pray
for someone in Omaha that has cancer.
He was more than happy to do so.
Look at how I parked my car.
You can see my bumper sticker in the back window.
Many people today saw it on I-680, I-80 and Hwy-71
as they passed me.
I drive the speed limit or just over a few MPH.
It simply says:
Spring Back To Life With Jesus.
And you can see my Lexus Santa Monica license frame.

And don't you ever park in Mrs. Becker's spot!
Don't even think about it.

The people of Carroll must spend a lot of time
waiting to cross the UPRR railroad tracks.
I had to wait a few times and
I was only there about 3 hours today.
I tried to drive around the trains or
parallel to the tracks to get to various spots.
It was a pain.
The trains never stopped there.
Why go through town?
Whatever.

And they have HyVee stores there,
just like in Omaha.

This is the post office.
The zip code there is 51401.
I had to magnify the original picture to read it.
Their web site also says 51401.

This is highway 71 looking north from
highway 30, if I'm reading the map right.
I could have used this map .
I should have printed it ahead of time.
The streets are at an angle just like downtown Denver.
It was pretty easy to find your way around town.
It is NOT that big.

This was something funny on highway 71
just south of Carroll as you are driving north.

)

The African violets are back
on the kitchen counter!
And, of course, there are 3 of them
in 3 different colors.
My niece took a picture of them.

I did not even know she took this picture.
She likes to play with my camera.
I bought these Friday morning at HyVee
near Oak View Mall around 144 and Center Streets.
When I was there I told one of the workers
thanks from Siena / Francis House
because they are always donating food to them.
(There's the newspaper.
I heard the bang on the front door just now (6:01 AM).)
And today?
I think I'm going to Carroll, Iowa.
(I AM going there!
See you later.)
It is 46 F degrees there.
The high should be 73 F degrees ---
one of those California days.
Remember I wrote about that back on July 3 (see below).
It should be interesting.
And I will take my camera to show you the town.

"Teach me, O Lord, your way
that I may walk in your truth;
direct my heart that it may fear your name."
Psalms 86:11

May we have great respect for you, Lord.
May we honor you in all that we do.
Renew our hearts.
Show us the truth.
Direct our paths today.
May we discover you over and over each day.

(July 24, 2004 4:02 AM CDT)

Why am I up at 4 AM?
God wants me to tell you something.
Women of Faith is coming to Omaha
(and other cities).
It will be held on August 20 and 21
at the new Qwest Center.
Get signed up for this,
if you live in the Omaha area.
Attend this.
I'm going back to sleep.
Bye.

(July 23, 2004 6:09 AM CDT)

Here is a picture from
the Fox Run Golf Course last night.
This is hole number 9
with the thunderstorms
to the north of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Hey, I got one par last night
on the par 3 hole number 6.
(Yes, 3 my favorite number:
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.)
I lost 2 balls.
I hit in the water at least 5 times.
There was standing water here and there
from the heavy rains overnight.
The sand traps were little lakes.
My total on the front night was 57.
I was struggling.

"The fervent petition of a holy person
is powerful indeed."
James 5:16

One plus God is a majority.
If you have the Lord on your side,
you have it made.
You can accomplish many things
with the Lord Jesus at your side.
Jesus, be with me today.
I need you.

(July 22, 2004 6:13 AM CDT)

Last night I talked to an attorney
about setting up a living trust
for my Mom.
I think it is way too complicated
for her to understand.

Jesus said,
"Do not lay up for yourselves
an earthly treasure.
Moths and rust corrode;
thieves break in and steal.
Make it your practice instead
to store up heavenly treasure,
which neither moths nor rust corrode
nor thieves break in and steal.
Remember,
where your treasure is,
there your heart is also."
Matthew 6:19-21

Each of us owns a few things.
Some of us own a lot of things.
The question is:
where is your treasure?
Is it in the things that you can see and
touch in this life...
or is it in things that are
out of this world?
I would recommend picking Door Number 2.
Learn about heavenly treasure.
Capture that.
Treasure that.
Hold on to that very dearly.
No one can steal it from you.
You don't need an attorney.
You need trust.
You need to trust Jesus.
It is not complicated.
Give your heart to Jesus.
It is simple.

(July 21, 2004 6:16 AM CDT)

For all you country music fans
Sara Evans is having a concert
in Lincoln on August 8th at 8:30 PM.
She sings about being perfect.

Jesus said it,
"In a word,
you must be made perfect
as your heavenly Father is perfect."
Matthew 5:48

We make hundreds of decisions each day.
We are faced with many choices.
Will we do this or will we do that?
Some are easy.
Will I stop for a traffic light or not?
I hope and pray you decide to stop for red lights.
To run a red light is to risk your life
and those in your path.
God gives us a conscience.
Flags will go up when danger (sin) is near.
Choose good.
Do what is right.
Follow the Lord in all his ways.
You will not have to worry about guilt.
You will have peace of mind
knowing that you did the right thing.
Be perfect!

(July 20, 2004 6:06 AM CDT)

Last night at the Siena / Francis House
they served the leftover cake from
the 150th birthday party for Omaha
at the Qwest Center the day before.
They made enough cake for 39,000 people
and only 6,000 showed up.
They gave most of the cake to area shelters.
Last night I worked in the kitchen
dishing up the baked beans.
You can call me Mr. Beans.
We served at least 100 people.
Next to me was Marty.
He was the Bun Man
putting the hamburger buns on the tray.
He was from St. Stephen the Martyr's church
in western Omaha.

"His death was death to sin,
once for all;
his life is life for God.
In the same way,
you must consider yourselves dead to sin,
but alive for God in Christ Jesus."
Romans 6:10-11

Sin is there.
It is in all of our lives.
We need God's forgiveness.
We need his grace
to make it through each day.
Jesus, forgive me.
I have sinned.
I have fallen short.
Help me.
I need you.
Change me, Lord.
Make me the person you want me to be.

(July 19, 2004 6:02 AM CDT)

It is going to be 95 F degrees today,
so stay cool!

Congratulations to John/Jon and Sarah/Sara
(not sure of the spellings)!
(Update on 7-24-2004: John and Sarah is the spellings.)
They are engaged to be married next year.
How wonderful.
God bless them and their marriage.
I was talking to them last evening.

"For the God who made the world
and all that is in it,
the Lord of heaven and earth,
does not dwell in sanctuaries
made by human hands;
not does he receive man's service
as if he were in need of it."
Acts 17:24-25

The God who made the universe
should dwell inside of you.
Invite him in.
He made you.
You are his.
You are his creation.
Celebrate life!
Feel the joy.
Welcome in your creator.

(July 18, 2004 7:39 AM CDT)

Wow, did you see the fireworks last?
It was cool.
It was awesome.
It was!
I watched them from the northwest corner
of 14th and Douglas Streets in downtown Omaha.
I sat on one of the walls to the huge
planters in front of the new Union Pacific Building.
(I hang out at that building a lot it seems.)
The one-way eastbound traffic on Douglas
came to a complete stop for the 12 minutes
of explosions and colors.
When it was all done the people around me applauded
the great show.
The cars all honked their horns.
Happy Birthday Omaha!
It is 150 years old this year.
Speaking of birthdays...
I'm making a cake for my niece.
She just turned 15 on July 14th
and we will have a party for her this evening.
(I'm watching my stopwatch so I don't burn the cake.)
I took 71 pictures around
the Heartland of America park yesterday morning.
(OK, I pulled the cake out of the oven,
so I don't have to worry about that anymore.)
Here is the stage that was built over the water:

In the evening I was too far away to hear anything
from this stage.
And I just got there as the fireworks started around 10 PM.
I was just a little late for the music of the symphony.
Here is the Channel 7 truck that was parked on
8th and Farnam Streets.
You can watch and hear the fireworks on this link above.
Click on "Video: See Omaha's Largest Fireworks Show."
It took 3 months of planning to put the show together
it says on another link:
"Go Inside Omaha's Biggest Fireworks Show."

They broadcast the fireworks,
but fireworks on TV is no comparison to being there
and feeling the concussions
and hearing the echoes off the tall downtown buildings.
I did videotape it.
I watched the videotape about 3 AM this morning,
since I was not sleeping well.
All the music was about rivers,
since the fireworks was shot over the Missouri River.
When I was there in person I did not hear
all the river music.
You would have thought someone in a car
would have been nice enough to crank up their speakers,
but they didn't.
Here is a picture of the stage from directly
in front of it.

Notice the cable strung over the water.
The sound controls were right above
where this picture was taken.
There's 3 pictures for you and I will add more later.

"Salt is excellent in its place;
but if salt becomes tasteless,
how can you season it?
Keep salt in your hearts
and you will be at peace
with one another."
Mark 9:50

There is a spark to life
when you know Jesus.
People can sense it.
The other day my Mom asked me,
"You are excited, aren't you?"
She knew something was going on in my life.
When people ask you about your joy
tell them about Jesus in your heart.
He is salt that you need in your Christian diet.
Otherwise life is very bland.

(July 17, 2004 7:21 AM CDT)

I see in the statistics
that many people are reading about
what I had in the New York Times on May 25th, 1986 .
There were about 500 hits in the last 3 months.
So I fixed all the outdated things on the page
and added some more text about what I remember.
I just wrote to the managing editor
of the New York Times to see if these two people
still work there or not.
It would be interesting to talk to them again.
It has been 18 long years.
You wonder what has happened to them since then.

"My God in turn will supply your needs fully,
in a way worthy of his magnificent riches
in Christ Jesus.
All glory to our God and Father for unending ages!
Amen!"
Philippians 4:19-20

Where will you be 18 years from now?
Will you be married by then?
Will you be divorced?
Will you be retired?
Will you have grandkids?
Will you live in a different city?
Will you even still be alive?
Read what I wrote 18 years ago in the New York Times.
It is something to think about.
Where will you be?
God will be around for all time.
Why not hang out with him for all eternity?

(July 16, 2004 6:05 AM CDT)

I played golf last night at Fox Run and got a 46!
I had 4 pars...nothing to this game.
I have never done that good before.
I took two pictures of the course
with my phone:

The only problem was that I got too much sun,
so I am in trouble with Dr. Watts .
I see they have three Julie-s
(Julie, Julie, Julie) in their office
and Lee is gone.
(I think that was his name.)
They have changed their web site around,
since I last saw it.

"There are in the end three things that last:
faith, hope and love,
and the greatest of these is love."
1 Corinthians 13:13

My dad is gone, but his love lives on.
He loved all of us "kids"
(we are not too young anymore) very much.
He never told us that.
I can never recall him saying that.
I guess that was mom's job.
He was a quiet man.
He let his actions speak for him.
His love lives on.

(July 15, 2004 5:49 AM CDT)

Yesterday I had lunch with Mr. Jones.
I have known him over 20 years.
We work across the street from each other.
He is on 4th floor in one building and
I'm on 8th floor in the building east of him.
We are within 500 feet of each other most of the day and
hardly ever see one another.
We had lunch at the new UPRR building on 2nd floor
on 14th and Douglas.
It is open to the public.
The food is not bad.
I had a huge piece of veggie pizza.
They have plates and silverware just like on a train.
It is like you are in a dining car.
Speaking of Mr. Jones
that reminds me of a story that I wrote named,
"The Bridge is Out" .
Someone has made a copy of this and
put it on their web site.
I will find it and show you.
I just did a google.com search
and it does not pop right out.
I fixed the links on the page to work.
I have not changed that page since 1999.

I received a package yesterday.
The UPS tracking number is 1Z 8AW 742 03 0107 8799,
if you want to look it up.
Check the box and click on Track.
They misspelled my name AGAIN.
I don't know about those UPS people.
I ordered some custom blinds for 4 windows
in my house.

Jesus said,
"Remember Lot's wife.
Whoever tries to preserve his life
will lose it;
whoever loses it
will keep it."
Luke 17:32-33
"Lot's wife looked back,
and she turned into a pillar of salt."
Genesis 19:26

The Lord does give us warnings.
He does give us commands.
If we don't follow his ways, watch out.
I am telling it to you straight.
Lose yourself in the Lord.
Give all that you are to him.
Don't hold back.
Don't look back.
Focus on Jesus.
Keep moving forward away from sin toward God.
Be holy and as the Lord is holy.

(July 14, 2004 5:40 AM CDT)

Outside right at the moment is a total downpour.
The lighting is flashing continuously.
We are getting a lot of rain this year and we need it.
Thank the Lord.

"The disciples (who were in the boat)
finally woke Jesus and said to him,
'Teacher, does it not matter to you
that we are going to drown?'
He awoke and rebuked the wind and
said to the sea:
'Quiet! Be Still!'
The wind fell off and everything grew calm."
Mark 4:38-39

That had to be awesome to witness that...
to see the storm dissipate so quickly.
Wow that had to leave an impression on these men.
Who was Jesus?
They walked with him and talked to him
and yet he had unbelievable power.
Go to him in the storms of your life.
Ask him to bring peace.
He has the power.
He can do it and he will.

(July 13, 2004 6:18 AM CDT)

I took some pictures last evening
of the flowers in front of my house,
but none were that great.
I will take some more later today.

What is this about
Omaha is having a 150th birthday ?
This link says that
Omaha got its start on July 4, 1854.
There are many activities this weekend.
I will have to take some pictures
of this historic event and show you.

Jesus said,
"Again I tell you,
if two of you join your voices on earth
to pray for anything whatever,
it shall be granted you
by my Father in heaven.
Where two or three are gathered in my name,
there am I in their midst."
Matthew 18:19-20

That is why it is so important
to attend church each week!
You need to pray with others.
You need that spiritual support.
Jesus said to do it, so do it.
Offer up your petitions to the Lord.
He will hear and respond.
Just do it.

(July 12, 2004 5:49 AM CDT)

Did you see my name in the newspaper yesterday?
It was on page 10-B in the bottom right corner.
Here is the original that I wrote to our local newspaper:

3-D License Plates

Recently I read about "those flat license plates"
( July 6th front page ).
Why flat? Why not 3-D?
Make the letters and numbers appear to be 3-D with shading.

Here is what they edited it to be:

Rethink license plates

Recently I read about "those flat license plates"
( July 6 front page ).
Why flat? Why not 3-D?
Make the letters and numbers appear to be 3-D with shading.
Dan Boeckman, Omaha

They only made four changes this time.
I'm getting better.

I finally got my flowers planted
in front of my house on Saturday.
I usually plant them in May.
I am a little behind schedule this year.
It is one of those busy years.

Yesterday I "bribed" my nephew
to program my new phone.
I bought him some music online at walmart.com .
He set my phone up
to display the picture of people
when you get a call from them.
Cool.
I got a Sanyo 8100 .
Given enough time
I could have done that too (yea, right).
I think it will change my life.
For instance I will probably
call people when I am out
for my almost daily walk at the Mall.
I could check my voice messages at home and work.
I get the feeling my life is accelerating.

Jesus said,
"No pupil outranks his teacher..."
Matthew 10:24

Yesterday my nephew was trying to teach
me how to use my phone.
I needed him to help me.
The end result was something really neat.
That is the way it is with God.
There is A LOT he wants to teach us.
Many things we need to learn.
Will we take the time to slow down and listen?
The end result is out of this world ---
joy that never ends.
Hope beyond your wildest dreams.
Imagine that!
You wake up one day and
the thought of dying is gone.
It is not hanging overy your head anymore.
There will be no more suffering or pain in heaven.
Yea, think about that.

Wow, I wrote a lot today.

(July 11, 2004 6:17 AM CDT)

I got my phone activated yesterday.
I took one picture of the peace lily
in front of my house.
I don't know how to show it to you.
Please, stand by.
I sent the picture to my email for spring2life.com.
It took me awhile to figure it all out,
but here it is.

"For this I work and struggle,
impelled by that energy of his
which is so powerful a force within me."
Colossians 1:29

Where do you get your strength?
Is it the food you eat?
Is it the liquids you drink?
Your power source should be the Lord.
He is all powerful.
He is almighty.
He gives all that we need,
if we ask him.
Jesus, come into my heart.
I need you, Lord.
I need your power and strength.
You are the Holy One.
I worship you.
I give you praise and thanks.
Give me the strength I need
to make it through the day.

(July 10, 2004 7:39 AM CDT)

Well I got my new phone yesterday.
The UPS tracking number is 1Z A08 F33 42 3186 552 7,
if you want to look it up.
Check the box and click on Track.
They misspelled my name.
I didn't notice that until just now.
Now I just have to figure out how
to use all the features.
Maybe I can ask my niece to teach me.
I need to go to school.
I think it is possible to replace my pager
with the text messaging feature on this phone.

"Everyone is busy seeking his own interests
rather than those of Christ Jesus."
Philippians 2:21

Where are your priorities?
Check yourself.
What do you think about most often?
Do you ever thing about Jesus?
Do you set aside time to pray each day?
Is Jesus part of your life?
Do you ever go to church?

(July 9, 2004 5:55 AM CDT)

(Update at 9:37 AM:
I got out the tape measure and
the corn in this picture is 90 inches tall in places.
It is over my head.
This is in a field
on the south side of Boys Town's property.

)

Today I'm on vacation.
I like to take Fridays off.
I'm waiting for UPS
to deliver my new cell phone.
I don't know the tracking number.
Yes, I know it's hard to believe,
but I got a cell phone again.
I had one before and never used it,
so I cancelled it.
Hopefully I will use this one.
It has a camera on it,
so that will be interesting.

They fixed the traffic indicators
at 37th and Dodge Streets.
The world is a safer place!
Alls it took was one phone call (402-444-5160).

"Some seeds fell on good soil,
grew up,
and yielded grain a hundredfold."
Luke 8:8

We have been getting rain
almost every day here in Omaha lately.
The corn is getting tall.
It is past the
"knew high by the 4th of July" length easily.
It all happened because the seeds were planted
some time ago by the farmers of this area.
(Maybe I should take a picture or two and show you.)
Are you planting anything?
Do you have anything to show for your life?
Are you growing (in your faith)?
Jesus says to be alive.
He says to be active and changing and evolving.
He wants you to make something useful and beautiful.

(July 8, 2004 5:58 AM CDT)

This morning the phrase
"God will restore your life"
keeps playing over and over in my mind.
It is a broken record!
It must be a message for my mom I guess.
She is going through a lot right now.
The Lord will restore her life
somehow, someway.

"A clean heart create for me, O God,
and a steadfast spirit renew within me.
Cast me not out from your presence,
and your holy spirit take not from me.
Give me back the joy of your salvation,
and a willing spirit sustain in me."
Psalms 51:12-14

The Lord is the keeper of your soul.
Go to him.
He made you.
He knows exactly what you need.
Lean on him.
Take one day at a time.
Take one moment at a time,
if that is all you can do.
Ask for help.
Alls it takes is a simple prayer.
Jesus, come.
Restore my soul.
Restore the joy in my heart.
I need you.

(July 7, 2004 5:58 AM CDT)

(Update at 9:11 PM:
Here are some better pictures I took this morning
of 37th and Dodge Streets.

I did call the city and they will take a look at it.
For the second picture
I was standing in the middle of the Dodge Street
to get the right angle.
You better pray for me!
That was not too smart.
Please, don't ever attempt this.
)

One thing that I have learned over that last few weeks
is that I am addicted to exercise.
I need to go for my walks at the Mall and
do my push-ups and sit-ups.
I feel terrible if I skip them.

Here is an attempt yesterday morning to take
a picture as I drove east on Dodge at 37th.
I am in the center lane as you can see.

It is not easy to drive and take pictures.
There is an overhead indicator with a red "X"
and a green arrow.
There should be just one or the other, not both.
I will have to call the City of Omaha to fix it.
The center lane changes direction to eastbound
during the morning rush hours.
Normally it is westbound.
I will try to take another picture today
by parking and getting out of my car.
The Mutual of Omaha buildings are on the right side
of this picture in the distance.

"Because you are lukewarm,
neither hot nor cold,
I will spew you out of my mouth!"
Revelation 3:16

You can't have it both ways.
You must choose one or the other.
You can't say "Yes" and "No" at the same time.
Say "Yes" to the Lord.
Be for him.
Follow his directions.
If you are going the wrong way,
stop and turn around.
You can't go east and west on Dodge Street
in the center lane.
You must choose one direction or the other.
You either go toward God or away from him.

(July 6, 2004 5:55 AM CDT)

Only July 4th I scanned
my 2 hard drives for viruses.
None were found.
I have 3,363,536 files!
The two hard drives back each other up,
so there is a lot of duplication.
It took 8 hours and 51 minutes.

Jesus said,
"For this reason
a man shall leave his father and mother
and cling to his wife,
and the two shall become as one.
Thus they are no longer two but one flesh.
Therefore, let no man separate
what God has joined."
Matthew 19:5-6

God bless all the marriages.
May they be strong.
May they endure for a lifetime.
They are signs of faithfulness.
My parents were married 59 years.
They stayed together.
God bless them.

(July 5, 2004 6:13 AM CDT)

This morning I'm reading about
Big Sky, Montana .
It looks like a beautiful place to visit.
It is not far from Yellowstone .

"God, who gives heart to those who are low in spirit,
gave me strength with the arrival of Titus."
2 Corinthians 7:6

Be a friend.
Be an angel.
Be a messenger from the Lord.
Bring peace.
Bring comfort.
Give your heart to others.

(July 4, 2004 7:22 AM CDT)

(Update at 9:02 PM:

Today I went back to the rock and roll church
on 22nd and Binney Streets in Omaha.
There is a reason why the door is open
in the second picture.
There is no air-conditioning.
There are some hand fans in the pews
to try to keep cool.
The temperatures were in the 80's F.
The Freedom Choir was there of course.
The members keep changing,
but the sound is the same --- awesome.

The kids sang a number of songs for us
from the vacation bible school.
They love to "sign" the words to songs there
as you can see.
A few miles from there is the infamous
Siena/Francis House at 17th and Nicholas Streets.
I usually go there on Monday nights.
Near 34th and Woolworth I ran across a few houses
decorated for the 4th of July.

)

This morning I'm listening to the
Frank Sinatra Hour .
My mom likes him.
I just bought two of his CDs from walmart.com
for my mom.
I don't care for his music except for
"New York, New York".
This is a duet with Tony Bennett.
You can hear it on this link above.
These are the lyrics:
"Start spreading the news..." .
You wonder if my dad
can hear a "live" performance of this?

Jesus told the Eleven:
"Go into the whole world
and proclaim the good news
to all creation."
Mark 16:15

Not only in New York,
but go to all the world.
Tell everyone the Good News.
Jesus Christ is alive.
He has risen from the dead.

(July 3, 2004 8:30 AM CDT)

I wonder if my life will ever get back to normal.
It is all new.
Some is fun and some hurts a lot.
Many people are praying for me,
so I should make it through.
I have a list of things to do.
It changes each day.
There is progress each day also.
I am just very tired each evening
at the end of the day.
This morning I'm doing research on Carroll, Iowa .
I might take a trip there this weekend.
(Note: did not happen.)
It is about 2 hours (107 miles) away from Omaha.
I will take my camera.
It is not a very big town.
I saw a car and a bus from Carroll
the other day at Mall of the Bluffs
in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

"There was a certain Levite
from Cyprus named Joseph,
to whom the apostles gave the name Barnabas
(meaning 'son of encouragement').
He sold a farm that he owned
and made a donation of the money,
laying it at the apostles' feet."
Acts 4:36-37

Give to the church.
Help the Christian community.
Build the kingdom of God.
Help pay the "rent."
Do your part.
If everyone gives a little,
that will pay the bills.
Be a son or daughter of encouragement.

(July 2, 2004 5:58 AM CDT)

Today is the funeral for my aunt's sister.
Pray for all the family.
Thanks.

Yesterday morning I took some pictures of the cemetery
where my dad is buried.
My grandparent's marker is in the first picture.
I took a picture of the angel coin
on my sister's grave
that I talked about on June 29th.
I also took a picture of the two towers
in downtown Omaha with their tops
in the clouds.
I took 4 pictures of the two towers and
I printed an 8 X 10 of one of them.
It cost about $7 at the Walgreen's downtown.
It took about 10 minutes to print it for some reason.
It's a cool picture that I've shown to several people.
I will turn that in to the Omaha World-Herald in a few days.
Maybe they will print it.
They will own the photo, so I can't show it to you.
They will control that picture.
If there is an award for the picture,
I guess they get it, maybe not.
My name will be on it, also.

Jesus said,
"Try to come in through the narrow door.
Many, I tell you, will try to enter
and be unable."
Luke 13:24

Are you knocking on heaven's door?
Will the Lord let you in?
We all will die one day.
Maybe there will be a marker in a cemetery
to remember you.
Come to Jesus before it is too late.
He holds the key to eternal life.

(July 1, 2004 6:20 AM CDT)

I have gained 3 pounds over the last week
from eating, eating and eating.
For example yesterday at work
two people were celebrating 20 years with the company.
There were donuts, bagels and muffins galore.
I went to lunch yesterday for the first time
in the new Union Pacific building at 14th and Douglas
with three friends.
The food is very good there.
I like food.

"In times past,
God spoke in fragmentary and varied ways
to our fathers through the prophets;
in this, the final age,
he has spoken to us through his Son,
whom he has made heir of all things
and through whom he first created the universe."
Hebrews 1:1-2

It is clear.
Jesus has spoken.
There is no question.
He told us the way it is.
Study his words.
Trust his words.
Live by his words.
