September 1 to 30, 1998

Listen to God
Follow in His steps

Seek true wisdom

Be strong

The Lord is kind and merciful

Give someone a hug

Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D

If this is your first time to visit,
welcome!

(September 30, 1998 6:08 AM CDT)

Here is the picture out my back window
on October 26, 1997.
We had about 10 inches of snow that day.
The branch from that maple tree
broke about 3:30 AM and
fell toward my house, but
it did not cause any damage.
You can read more about that in
October, 1997 .
It is something to reread that
and think about what happened to us.

"Then Jesus reentered the boat,
made the crossing, and came back
to his own town.
There the people at once brought
to him a paralyzed man lying
on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith
he said to the paralytic,
'Have courage, son,
your sins are forgiven.'"
Matthew 9:1-2

Jesus had the power to forgive sins.
He was God.
He still forgives sin.
Ask him for forgiveness.
You hear the word "forgiveness"
all the time lately on the news.
But it takes faith.
Do you believe in Jesus?
I'm praying for you.
You are paralyzed and I'm presenting
you to Jesus.
Will you accept him?
You are in need of a doctor.
Will you seek help?
You are in pain.
Will you change your life?

(September 29, 1998 6:03 AM CDT)

Hi Mike and Kendall!

Yesterday there was 3 letters in
Post Office Box 991. One of the letters
was two pages single spaced typed.
The hand written intro said:
"This is what I hand out when they come
to my door. The same applies to you."
Well, my first impression is that
this person needs prayer,
so pray for them.
Thanks.

Mark M. hit 70 home runs to end the season.
That is a very interesting number.

"After this, the Lord appointed 70 others
and sent them in pairs before him
to every town and place he intended
to visit. Jesus said to them:
'The harvest is rich
but the workers are few;
therefore ask the harvest master to
send workers to his harvest.
Be on your way,
and remember I am sending you as lambs
in the midst of wolves.
Do not carry a walking staff or
traveling bag; wear no sandals and
greet no one along the way.
On entering any house, first say:
Peace to this house.'"
Luke 10:1-5

Peace be with you today!
Is the Lord sending you?
The answer is......
Yes!
The harvest this year around Omaha
is very great.
The corn is everywhere.
The harvest has begun.
I was up in Blair on Sunday
and saw some fields that had
already been harvested.
The same is true on the
spiritual side.
The harvest of souls is there.
Will you help?
Will you bring them into the kingdom?
Jesus says not to take
too many things with you.
i.e. Live that simple life.
Amen?
Any questions?
Then go.

(September 28, 1998 6:05 AM CDT)

Today we pray for all those in the path
of Hurricane Georges this morning.
We pray for the Lord's protection.

Jesus said,
"Ask, and you will receive.
Seek, and you will find.
Knock, and it will be opened to you.
For the one who asks, receives.
The one who seeks, finds.
The one who knocks, enters.
Would one of you hand his son a stone
when he asks for a loaf,
or a poisonous snake when he asks
for a fish? If you, with all your sins, know how
to give your children what is good,
how much more will your heavenly Father
give good things to anyone
who asks him!"
Matthew 7:7-10

Yes, the Lord knows what is best for us.
Ask.
The Lord will give you wisdom.
He will open the words in the Bible to you.
He will show you his will for your life.
Seek the Lord.
Open your heart each day.
Give all that you have to him.
Jesus gave everything.
Enter in.

(September 27, 1998 7:23 AM CDT)

It's day 461 and
"Preparation for Year 2000"

is in the newspaper.
It is now part of history.
It's on page 7 of the TV listings.
There are two page sevens.

Jesus said,
"Stop worrying, then over questions like,
'What are we to eat,
or what are we to drink,
or what are we to wear?'
The unbelievers are always running
after these things. Your heavenly Father
knows all that you need.
Seek first his kingship over you,
his way of holiness, and all these things
will be given you besides.
Enough, then, of worrying about tomorrow.
Let tomorrow take care of itself.
Today has troubles enough of its own."
Matthew 6:31-34

What is first priority for you?
What is most important?
If you put God first,
all things will fall into place.
Serve the Lord.
Worship Jesus.
Concentrate on today.
What does the Lord ask of me today?
Pray.
Be holy.
Read the Bible.
Receive strength from Jesus.
Don't worry.

(September 26, 1998 6:32 AM CDT)

Jesus said,
"Be on guard against performing religious
acts for people to see. Otherwise expect
no recompense from your heavenly Father.
When you give alms, for example, do not
blow a horn before you in synagogues and
streets like hypocrites looking for
applause. You can be sure of this much,
they are already repaid. In giving alms
you are not to let your left hand know
what your right hand is doing.
Keep your deeds of mercy secret, and
your Father who sees in secret
will repay you."
Matthew 6:1-4

Yes, do it for the Lord.
Do his will.
Don't blow a horn.
This assumes you are doing something.
Be of service.
Be thoughtful.
Respect others.
Do it in the name of Jesus.

(September 25, 1998 6:04 AM CDT)

Jesus said,
"If you bring your gift to the altar and
there recall that your brother has
anything against you, leave your gift
at the altar, go first to be reconciled
with your brother, and then come and offer
your gift. Lose no time; settle with your
opponent while on your way to court with
him. Otherwise your opponent may hand you
over to the judge, who will hand you over
to the guard, who will throw you into prison.
I warn you, you will not be released until
you have paid the last penny."
Matthew 5:23-26

Jesus says to be reconciled.
Forgive each other.
Ask for forgiveness.
We can't expect God to forgive us,
if we won't forgive others.
You can read,
"Now Is the Time"

which deals with this point.

Yesterday I received one e-mail
and one letter at the Post Office
Box 991 downtown (17 and
Capitol Ave). Not too many
people write. They say one
in 100 will write to you, but
I'm not sure if it is true.
(And we know who important the
truth is.)

Yesterday someone called from MCI
at work. On July 6 I told them
I was not interested and not to
call again. So I once again told
them to put me on the list or
mark my name "Do not call."
Did that stop them? Their computer
called me again. The person calling
was very nice and at the end said:
"Have a blessed day."
Maybe that's why they called.
God bless them too.

(September 24, 1998 6:07 AM CDT)

Yesterday I was on a video conference call.
There were people in Denver, Colorado,
Portland, Oregon and Omaha, Nebraska.
It was fun.
We could see them on these big TV screens
and they can see us.
The picture jumps a little bit,
but it helps to see the other people.
When it was my turn to introduce myself
I got a "frog" in my throat.
I could not clear my throat.
It was embarrassing.
Where was a glass of water when I needed it?
But I survived.
We did accomplish a lot.

"How blest are the poor in spirit:
the reign of God is theirs.
Blest too are the sorrowing;
they shall be consoled."
Matthew 5:3-4

How we try to impress others!
Like this week I say to my friends at work,
"Did you see I wrote something
in the newspaper Sunday?"
We build ourselves up.
Puffed up.
We need to keep things in perspective.
All our talents come from God.
He is the author.
He deserves the glory ---
not us.
Be humble.
Could you pray for Jim and his family?
His Dad died a few days ago.
We ask the Lord Jesus to comfort them.
They are in sorrow and pain.
May the Lord bless them
and console them.
Thanks.
Prayer does make a difference.

(September 23, 1998 6:00 AM CDT)

Good Morning!
Yesterday I got the proof for
"Preparation for Year 2000"
.
They had resized it to 2 BY 8
but there was still all the typos.
Ron (402-444-1427) got them all fixed
and gave me another proof.
They also gave me a proof of a
1-inch advertisement for October 4.
It says:
"spring2life.com
For Your
Spiritual Enrichment"
It alternates backgrounds black,
white, black from top to bottom.
There will be a special section that day
to introduce the new web site
omaha.com
.
And I wrote them a check for
$946 ($888 September 27 advertisement
+ $58 October 4 advertisement).

"The Lord is king, in splendor robed;
robed is the Lord and girt about
with strength;
and he has made the world firm,
not to be moved.
Your throne stands firm from of old;
from everlasting you are, O Lord."
Psalms 93:1-2

God has no beginning or end.
He is forever and ever.
He is someone you can depend on
to be there.
Since he's been around a long time
he knows what works and what does not.
He says to love your neighbor.
Good idea.
It works.
It makes for a better world.
Keep contact with God.
Pray.
Ask for help.
It works.
He sent Jesus.
Jesus set an example.
Live like he did.
He cared for the forgotten ones.
Do you?
He was poor ---
he had little, if any, money.
He gave and gave and gave.
He gave his time.
He talked to people.
He healed them.
He called them to follow him.
He gave his life.
He died for you and me.
What an example!
He rose from the dead.
He overcame death.
He set you free.
You can live forever with God.
Eternal life.
Life without end.
Heaven.
Read what Jesus said.
Please.
He gave us the Bible.
Read it.
Take it to heart.
Then give...

(September 22, 1998 6:10 AM CDT)

"Jesus toured all of Galilee.
He taught in their synagogues,
proclaimed the good news of the
kingdom, and cured the people of
every disease and illness.
As a consequence of this,
his reputation traveled the
length of Syria."
Matthew 4:23-24

If you are sick today,
call on the name of Jesus.
Ask him to heal you.
Listen to his words.
He has a lot to say to you.
He says to come and follow him.
He says to change your life.
Pray.
If the Lord sends you to talk
to another person,
share what you know about the Lord.
The Lord is kind and merciful.

I still have not seen the revised proof for
"Preparation for Year 2000"
.
It should be there today.
Pray for the people that change it.
They have to read some of it to change it.
You never know who needs to read it.
Even the people that work at the newspaper.

(September 21, 1998 5:56 AM CDT)

It is a sad day here in the USA.
The tape of President Clinton
will be released
for the whole world to see.
What can we learn from this?
Tell the truth.
If you are married,
be faithful to your spouse.
If you are single, wait until
you are married for sex.
Just a few things.
How many lives have been flipped
upside down?
Bill, Hillary, Chelsea,
Monica and her family, etc.
It is sad.
It should have never happened.
Please,
do what is right.
Do the will of God.
Follow his ways.

"When John the Baptizer made his appearance
as a preacher in the desert of Judea,
this was his theme:
'Reform your lives!
The reign of God is at hand.'"
Matthew 3:1-2

Yes, let us change.
Let us reform.
Let us repent.
Let us ask the Lord for mercy.
We have sinned.
Forgive us.
Jesus, come and change us.
Make us holy.
It is time to move on.
Come, Lord Jesus.

(September 20, 1998 6:48 AM CDT)

Rain.
Last night at 9:30 PM I heard the
thunderstorms go through Omaha .
They also woke me up at about
2:30 AM and 3:30 AM also.
It is a dark gloomy morning outside.
I just brought in the newspaper.
I was just like a little kid on
Christmas Day. I looked through
the Entertainment Magazine and
then the inside section with the TV
listings. It is there on page 11
next to the TV listings for Wednesday.
It is the very center page on the right
side, so it is very easy to find.
At the bottom it says:
Happy Birthday Matt tomorrow.
(That's my brother.)
Pray for everyone that reads it.
May their lives be changed.
May they find the living God.

"For just as from the heavens
the rain and snow come down
and do not return there
until they have watered the earth,
making it fertile and fruitful,
giving seed to him who sows
and bread to him who eats,
so shall my word be
that goes forth from my mouth;
it shall not return to me void,
but shall do my will,
achieving the end for which I sent it."
Isaiah 55:10-11

When we read the Bible
it changes us.
These are words from God.
He is eternal.
He is life.
It is like the rain that came
down last night.
My yard was drying up.
It needed moisture.
I was watering the lawn a few days
last week.
I was not keeping up.
It needed help.
So often we try to do things on our own.
We think that we don't need God.
We can get by without him.
But then he sends his blessings.
He overwhelms us.
He pours out his love on us.
It is a gift.
We don't deserve it.
He loves us that much.
He loves you that much.
Open your hands and heart today
and receive blessings
beyond words...

(September 19, 1998 6:08 AM CDT)

"All the supervisors of the kingdom,
the prefects, satraps, nobles, and governors
all agreed that the following prohibition
ought to be put in force by royal decree:
no one is to address any petition to god
or man for 30 days, except to you, O
king (King Darius); otherwise he shall be cast
into a den of lions.
...
Even after Daniel heard that this law
had been signed, he continued his custom
of going home to kneel in prayer and
give thanks to his God in the upper
chamber 3 times a day, with the windows
open toward Jerusalem.
...
The king ordered Daniel to be brought and cast
into the lion's den. To Daniel he said,
'May your God whom you serve so constantly
save you.'"
Daniel 6:8,11,17

May God save you today!
Hopefully you will not have to
face the hungry lions.
But if you pray,
people will make fun of you.
They will put you down.
They will give you a hard time.
The Lord will be with you.
He will comfort you.
In several countries it is
against the law to pray.
Pray for the Christians there.
Pray that they will stand
for the truth.
May you do what is right.
King Darius did not want to put
Daniel in with the lions.
He knew it was wrong,
but he did it anyway.
We can learn from his mistake.
Do what is right!
Obey God.
The Lord be with you.

Tomorrow the first advertisement will
be in the newspaper. Yesterday at
lunch I was asked why I did this.
Why pay to put these things in
the paper?
I feel God wants me to do it.
The Lord wants people to change
directions. I try to point them
to the good. I try to create a
"ripple" through the culture
of goodness.
It is like throwing a pebble in
a calm pond and watching the
waves spread out.
I ask God to bless all those that
will read these writings.

(September 18, 1998 7:59 AM CDT)

Hi, I just got a prayer request for
Natalie from Sioux Falls, South Dakota
(where I was just 17 days ago).
She is thinking a having an abortion.
Pray that she lets her baby live.
Thanks.

(September 18, 1998 6:11 AM CDT)

Yesterday I was working with a different
person (Ron) at the World-Herald.
He will have all the typos fixed and
give me another proof today.

In last night's paper two young people in two
different accidents were killed.
Each person was not wearing their
seat belt. We can learn from their
mistake. Please wear your seat belt.
Pray for their families today.
Thanks.

"My God in turn will supply your
needs fully, in a way worthy of his
magnificent riches in Christ Jesus.
All glory to our God and Father
for unending ages!
Amen."
Philippians 4:19-20

The Lord owns everything.
He has all the riches.
If you are his child,
you inherit the kingdom.
Receive blessings from Jesus today.
He is magnificent!
Rejoice and be glad.
Give glory to God
forever and ever.

It is interesting for me to re-read
"Preparation for Year 2000"
.
There is something in it which
is out of this world.
I can't explain it.

(September 17, 1998 6:15 AM CDT)

"Let our people devote themselves to
honest work in order to take care
of their needs, so that they may
be in position to live fruitful lives.
All who are with me send their
greetings. Greet those with
love in the faith.
May grace be with you all!"
Titus 3:14-15

Yes, work.
If you have a job, do it well.
If you are going to school, study hard.
If you are retired,
be of service to others.
Serve the Lord right where you are.
Talk to others.
Smile.
Greet them in love.
May grace abound.

Yesterday I received a proof of
"Preparation for Year 2000"
.
There are about 10 typos to fix.
The length is 2 BY 10
(2 columns wide by 10 inches long),
so we need to pick a smaller font of 8 point.
It is 9 point right now. This will
bring the size down to 2 BY 8 or less.
Which will cut the cost by $222.
I'm working with Jim to get it corrected.
Pray for us to get it fixed.
Thanks.

(September 16, 1998 6:08 AM CDT)

Yesterday I gave
Version 4 of "Preparation for Year 2000"

to Jim at the
Omaha World-Herald
.
You get to the point where
you could keep changing it more
and more, but you have to freeze it.
It is not perfect, but it is
very close to what I want to say
to the people around Omaha .
I had about 10 friends read it over
and give me feedback.
God bless them.

"Much time had now gone by.
The autumn fast was over, and with the
lateness of the year sailing had become
hazardous. It was then that Paul uttered
this warning: 'Men, I can see that this
voyage is bound to meet with disaster and
heavy loss, not only to ship and cargo,
but to our own lives as well.' However,
the centurion preferred listening to the
pilot and the shipowner than to listening to
Paul."
Acts 27:9-11

Paul was inspired by God.
He gave advice, but they did not listen.
The Lord gives advice to you.
When you read the Bible it says to
live the way that pleases the Lord.
Do you listen?
Do you tell the truth?
Are you faithful to your spouse?
Disaster is possible.
You will fall.
You will crash.
When you do call on the name
of Jesus.
He will save you.

(September 15, 1998 6:07 AM CDT)

"As for myself, brothers, when I came
to you I did not come proclaiming
God's testimony with any particular
eloquence or 'wisdom.' No, I
determined that while I was with
you I would speak of nothing but
Jesus Christ and him crucified."
1 Corinthians 2:1-2

Are you trying to impress someone with
your knowledge of the Bible?
Have you read it over and over
and heard many sermons
and been to many Bible studies?
Keep it simple.
Speak of Jesus.
Tell others of his suffering and death.
He is love.
Recall his Resurrection.
Share what the Lord has done for you.
The Holy Spirit will give you the words to say.
It is a simple message:
Jesus loves you.
Live it.

(September 14, 1998 6:14 AM CDT)

Jesus told this story of a son
who ran away from home, lived a
life of sin and then returned:
"The father said to his servants:
'Quick! bring out the finest robe
and put it on him;
put a ring on his finger and
shoes on his feet.
Take the fatted calf and kill it.
Let us eat and celebrate
because this son of mine
was dead and
has come back to life.
He was lost and is found.'
Then the celebration began."
Luke 15:22-24

These are the Bible verses where
"Spring To Life" gets its name.
Many people are dead.
They lead a life of sin.
I hear people say it,
"I'm living in sin."
They know it.
Jesus comes along and frees them.
They are in prison and
Jesus opens the door.
Jesus is the key.
He is the way.
They change their lives.
Heaven and earth rejoices.
Give your life to Jesus today.
Change your ways.
You know what is right and wrong.
Then celebrate!
You are alive again.
Jesus overcame death.
Live!

(September 13, 1998 6:28 AM CDT)

I received an e-mail yesterday from
Mary in Santa Ana, California . She has
been nice enough over the years to
help edit the advertisements for
the newspaper.
God bless her!
Pray for her and her new job.

"Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord;
Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to my voice in supplication.
If you, O Lord, mark iniquities,
Lord, who can stand?
But with you is forgiveness,
that you may be revered.
I trust in the Lord;
my soul trusts in his word.
My soul waits for the Lord
more than sentinels wait for the dawn."
Psalms 130:1-6

If the Lord displayed our sins for all the world
to see, we would be very embarassed.
We would hide in shame.
But the Lord will forgive us.
There is forgiveness.
Turn to the Lord today.
Ask him to forgive you.
Pray:
Jesus, I am a sinner.
Help me to turn from my evil ways.
Help me to change my life.
Forgive my many sins.
Give me strength to overcome temptations.
Make me pure.
Heal me.
Change me, Lord.
Amen.

On Friday I gave a check to Jim at
the Omaha World-Herald . The advertisements
are not free. We have to pay for them.
The September 20 ad is 2 columns wide
and 9.75 inches long. We have a year long contract
for 31.5 inches of advertising starting
on September 1, 1998. With this contract
The rate in the Entertainment Magazine
is $55.50 per column inch.

(September 12, 1998 6:33 AM CDT)

"...suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared
in a dream and said to him:
'Joseph, son of David, have no fear
about taking Mary as your wife.
It is by the Holy Spirit that she has
conceived this child. She is to have
a son and you are to name him Jesus
because he will save his people from
their sins.'"
Matthew 1:20-21

Yes, Lord Jesus, come and save us
from our sins.
I saw President Clinton live on CNN
yesterday morning say, "I have sinned."
We have all sinned.
We all need to ask the Lord for forgiveness.
We need the strength of the Lord
to overcome temptations
and change our ways.
We need to make amends.
We need to say we are sorry to the
people we have hurt.
Lord, be with us.
Change us.
Restore us.
Restore our country.
Come and save us.

(September 11, 1998 6:21 AM CDT)

"You spread the table before me
in the sight of my foes;
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
for years to come."
Psalms 23:5-6

Today we pray for President Clinton.
Should he continue as president or not?
Lord, we ask you to bless him today.
Show him what is best for our country.
Guide his decisions.
Change his heart.
May he receive your forgiveness.
May he dwell in your house
one day, Lord.
Lord, we are all sinners and
fall short of what you expect of us.
Change us.
Help us to see the evil in our lives.
Drive the evil thoughts out of us.
May we be holy.
Help us to be pure.
Give us strength to resist temptations
that are all around us.
You have given our country many blessings.
We thank you for our freedoms.
Help us to use our time for goodness
and kindness.
We ask this all in the name of Jesus.

(September 10, 1998 6:08 AM CDT)

God bless you today!
Good morning (or evening) wherever
you are around the world.

"The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me in right paths
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff
that give me courage."
Psalms 23:1-4

Yes, Lord we follow you.
We are lost without you.
You are the way, the truth and the life.
We surrender.
We submit to you.
We look to your cross and
see how much you love us.
Thank you.
We are grateful.
We bless your holy name, Jesus.
Yesterday on the border around a car's
back license plate it said:
"Jesus is Lord"
Yes, you are the Lord.
Come into our lives.
Change us.
Use us to build your kingdom.
Keep us focused on you.
You alone.
Only you.

Ask God to bless Jim (402-444-1236)
at the Omaha World-Herald.
He is helping me with setting up the
advertisements for September 20 and 27.
This is something extra for him to do
since another person is on vacation.
Isn't he nice?
If you have any suggestions to improve
"Preparation for Year 2000"
,
send me an e-mail.
Don't wait, if you have something to say.
Once it is in print with over 300,000
copies made it is too late.

(September 9, 1998 6:24 AM CDT)

Congratulations to Mark McGwire on #62.
He thanked the Lord above (I think).

As you can see I have started to write
a new article for the Sunday, September 27
Omaha World-Herald newspaper.
It is titled:
"Preparation for Year 2000"
.
I just sat down at the computer yesterday
and typed whatever came to mind.
It takes inspiration.
This is version 1, so take a look at
it and if you have any creative
ideas or comments, send me an e-mail:
dan@spring2life.com
.
Thanks.

(September 8, 1998 6:15 AM CDT)

"The general rule is that each one
should lead the life the Lord
has assigned him,
continuing as he was when the
Lord called him.
This is the rule I give in all
the churches."
1 Corinthians 7:17

You are unique.
No one is like you in the whole world.
You have an assignment.
No one else can fulfill your mission.
You are special ---
very special.
You are made by God.
You are created for greatness.
He has called you.
Are you listening?
Some call it destiny
or purpose
or a reason for living.
Go
in the name of Jesus.
Change your world.
I'm praying for you.
Pray for me, also.
Thanks.
I'm a writer.
I love to write.
It gives me joy to create words
and send them your way each morning.
You can do things that I can't do.
Maybe you are a teacher.
I say: God bless you today.
You are right there
where God wants you.
You have a direct influence on
all your student's future.
Give them an inspiring word each day.
Set an exceptional example.
Johann Pachelbel
gave us the
Canon in D
.
What will you leave for future
generations?
The Lord be with you...
whatever your calling.

(September 7, 1998 6:20 AM CDT)

I've been thinking about reprinting
"The Bridge is Out"
in our local newspaper
(Omaha World-Herald)

maybe on Sunday, September 20 or 27, 1998.
Say a prayer for all those who read it.
Yesterday I was looking at an old calendar
from 1988 and on May 15 of that year we had
an advertisement in the newspaper.
I dug through my old newspaper clippings
and found the one for May 15, 1988.
It was titled "The Bridge is Out".
At 16th and Leavenworth going south there
is a bright orange sign that says "Bridge Out".
They are resurfacing the bridge there.
These are little reminders for me.
And on the next Sunday I will have a
brand new 1998 writing, so pray for me
to say to the people around Omaha
what he wants me to say.
Pray that I will be a faithful witness.

"Coming within sight of Jerusalem
Jesus wept over it and said:
'If only you had known
the path to peace this day;
but you have completely
lost it from view.'"
Luke 19:41-42

Yes, Jesus looks at your city
and weeps for the lost.
He weeps for all those
who do not know peace.

(September 6, 1998 6:26 AM CDT)

Or check these TV Listings .

One thing that I have been thinking about
lately is that you can't do things
on your own.
Like during the strike ---
we needed to pull together
or you would not make it.
People got depressed very quickly.
Like my African violets ---
the plants that have two main stems
are doing well and have many green leaves.
The one plant that has a single stem today
is just barely hanging on with
two little green leaves and
might or might not survive.
I don't know.
I don't want to lose that plant.
I've had it for years.
And I see so many people trying to make
it through life by themselves.
They think they can do it without
God's help.
You need the Lord.
You will not survive
when the hard times come.
Jesus is your best friend.
Call on him for help.
Ask him to walk with you.
The Lord is your help
in times of trouble.

"Let me know, O Lord, my end
and what is the number of my days,
that I may learn how frail I am.
A short span you have made my days,
and my life is as nought before you;
only a breath is any human existence.
A phantom only, man goes his ways;
like vapor only are his restless pursuits;
he heaps up stores, and knows not
who will use them."
Psalms 39:5-7

Jesus, we will not make it without you.
We call on your name today.
Come and save us.
Rescue us.
Be that life giving water.
Give us strength.
Thanks for hearing my prayer.

Yesterday I made the mistake of looking at my
investments in the Stock Market
since before the strike.
At the moment I have lost many
thousands.
I don't want to think about it.
The Lord is trying to teach me something.
It could all be gone in a moment,
but my trust is in the Lord.
He will take care of me.
I have my faith.
Live simply...

"Who is there like you,
the God who removes guilt
and pardons sin for the
remnant of his inheritance;
Who does not persist in anger forever,
but delights rather in clemency..."
Micah 7:18

The Lord will forgive you.
He is full of mercy and love.
All you have to do is ask.
It is that simple.
Lord Jesus, forgive me for all my sins.
Heal me.
Make me whole.
Restore me.
Bring me home.
Renew my spirit.
Thank you, Jesus.

Some mornings in ABQ
I would catch myself humming a song:
"The Lord is kind and merciful..."
He is.

(September 4, 1998 5:49 AM CDT)

To Alan in Seattle:
I tried to write back to you,
but your e-mail address has changed.
Can you send me your new address?
Thanks.
Dan

Pray for that Renie that sits next
to me at work. She is in week number 35.
She wants to have a normal delivery
and not a C-section.
I told her you would pray for her
and her baby.
Thanks.

"As my vision continued, I heard the
voices of many angels who surrounded the
throne and the living creatures and the
elders. They were countless in number,
thousands and tens of thousands, and
they all cried out:
'Worthy is the Lamb that was slain
to receive power and riches,
wisdom and strength,
honor and glory and praise!'"
Revelation 5:11-12

Jesus is the Lamb.
He is the Lamb of God.
We give him praise today.
He died in our place.
He suffered for us.
He loves us that much.
We honor him.
Let us give thanks.

On Sunday, August 16 I was sent to
Albuquerque, New Mexico (the airport code is ABQ).
On Friday, August 28 I was sent to
Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
On Saturday, August 29 my parents and
my brother brought my car up to me from Omaha.
"I had wheels."
On Tuesday, September 1 I returned to
Omaha, Nebraska.
It was 17 days away from home.
It was a long period of time.
I couldn't write to you during this time
except for once.
Maybe the Lord is telling me I need a laptop
for when I'm "on the road".
Maybe not.
I did not have many possessions when I was
in ABQ.
I did not have a car or house or computers.
That saying keeps coming back to me:
Live simply that others may simply live.
I had a week's worth of clothes,
so when I ran out I had the Hyatt clean them.
It only cost about $59.
In Sioux Falls at "The Clothes Line"
on 43rd and Western Avenue
they only charged me $7.15.
Paying my MasterCard
bill has been a nightmare.
I had no checks with me.
It's a long story...

Anyway I'm home.
I've made some new friends.
I've renewed some friendships.
My life has changed.
My priorities have changed.
I guess I was in a rut
and the Lord wanted to stir things up.
Continue to pray for me.
I've still got a lot to learn.
Pray for all those people I met.
I want to see everyone of them
one day in
heaven.

Some dirt from the dusty roads of
Spencer, South Dakota is
still on the back bumper of my car.
It is a reminder to not forget them.

(September 3, 1998 6:09 AM CDT)

"Jesus opened their minds to the
understanding of the Scriptures.
He said to them:
'Thus it is written that the Messiah
must suffer and rise from the dead
on the third day. In his name,
penance for the remission of sins
is to be preached to all the nations,
beginning at Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of this.
See, I send down upon you the promise
of my Father. Remain here in the city
until you are clothed with
power form on high.'"
Luke 24:45-49

I pray today that your mind will be opened.
May the words of Jesus come alive for you.
I pray that you will come to life.
Maybe you are suffering.
Maybe you are hurt.
On Monday, August 31, 1998, the last
day I worked my strike assignment in
Sioux Falls, South Dakota, doing Directory Assistance
I worked from 5:30 PM to 5:30 AM the next day.
I suffered through the night.
It was a very long night,
but Keith and I made it somehow.
Many calls in the middle of the night were
for the police or the emergency room
at the hospital.
Pray for them and their crisis situation.
Ask the Lord to see them through to the
next morning.

(September 2, 1998 5:51 AM CDT)

Good morning from Omaha!
I drove home yesterday from
Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
(It's a long story.)
It is about 185 miles north from here.
It's good to be home.
The first thing I saw in my house
was those 3 African violet plants
that had not been watered for 2 weeks.
Hopefully they will recover.....
Hopefully I will recover.

"The Lord is faithful in all his words
and holy in all his works.
The Lord lifts up all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look hopefully to you,
and you give them their food in due season;
You open your hand and satisfy
the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is just in all his ways
and holy in all his works.
The Lord is near to all who call upon him,
to all who call upon him in truth."
Psalms 145:13-18

The Lord was with me during this entire strike.
There were many times when I wanted
to quit and go home.
The Lord sent me to Albuquerque and
Sioux Falls for a reason.
I needed to learn to trust in him.
He is my strength.
There are tears of joy this morning.
I am "choked up".
The Lord is faithful.

Wow, there is so much to write about...
On August 31 I went to see the town of
Spencer, South Dakota.
(I saw this house in this picture.)
A tornado hit the town on May 31.
Utter devastation.
They plowed the town under and
It is mostly just dirt today.
There are two new houses being built.
The bank vault is still there.
There are 4 black and white pictures
of the damaged town on a telephone pole
as you enter the "town".
Below the pictures is a sign that
that says "Spencer Tornado Donations" or
something like that.
On the ground there is a metal can
chained to the pole, so I gave them
a small donation.
If you want to contribute, you can
write to:
First Dakota National Bank
P.O. Box 100
Salem, SD 57058
Make check out to:
"Spencer Relief Fund"
(I just talked to Becky at 2:10 PM at
605-425-3111 to verify this information.)

After seeing that town my problems didn't
seem so big any more.
Keep praying for these people.
They have been through a lot.
Pray as they rebuild their lives.
